Why would Mike purposely ignore his BEST FRIEND, act really awkward and rude around him when they haven’t interacted each other in months??

His behaviour was very petty and jealous even. But jealous of what?? And who??

Why would he exclude Will unless he was mad? Will was so excited to see him, so why was Mike the only one who showed up already upset with Will??

Why did Mike flaunt his girlfriend infront of his best friend?? In a kind of “I choose her” king of way? Was there any need for it when Will was obviously happy to see him?

I think he was jealous about the painting. We even see him in one of the first scenes of season four reading the most recent letter El sent him. “Maybe it is for a girl. I think there is someone he likes.”

So all Mike knows is, he and his best friend haven’t been keeping in touch recently so he already feels disconnected from him, and now he is painting something for maybe a girlfriend? That’s all the news he gets about Will, and it doesn’t even come from Will himself.

So when Mike shows up the airport he immediately doesn’t hug Will and prioritises his girlfriend over Will. If he didn’t mean to ignore him and was just distracted then why did he say he noticed Will “rolling his eyes and moping” the whole time?

Then later during their argument, Will asking “and us?” was so direct to Mike that he saw it as questioning their friendship as if either of them saw them as something more than friends.

“We’re friends. We’re friends.” Great but no one was saying otherwise? Why did he feel the need to repeatedly confirm that they were friends and nothing more?

The answer is because he is INLOVE WITH WILL BYERS.

At the end of season three, El kisses Mike and this is his reaction.

And then this is Mikes reaction when Will says he won’t join another party.

And then Mike had MONTHS to realise that he never loved his girlfriend. BYLER ENDGAME
