Potter Class Update - Week 4
It’s hard to believe that so many weeks have passed since we were last in school together. You have all done an amazing job of staying in touch with me and each other so it never really feels like we’re too far apart. I am blown away by your creativity and effort, as well as your determination to carry on learning during this difficult time. I am so pleased that you’ve been so eager to share your work with me and you should all be so incredibly proud of yourselves! You should also be incredibly proud of your parents and carers who are all working so hard to help all of you whilst carrying on with their jobs and lives at the same time. It’s not an easy job juggling all of these responsibilities and I think we should all say a huge “well done” and “thank you” to them as well. I’m so impressed with how you’re using technology to bring your learning to life; I was recently amazed by Dylan’s two-part Science project which included both a word document and a video explanation – outstanding!
I am delighted that so many of you have been listening along to me reading ‘Mistletoe and Murder.’ I promise we are very close to discovering the guilty culprit! For those of you feeling inspired, the author – Robin Stevens – has a website full of interesting activities and writing prompts to help you get creative. Take a look at https://robin-stevens.co.uk/ and browse the Detective Activities section and the blog for some inspiration.
I look forward to seeing you all soon. Take care and best wishes,
Mr P

Potter Class - Home Learning
It’s the start of summer term! Everyone at Perryfields should be so proud of settling into their new home learning routines this week. A huge well done to all of the children and an enormous great big ‘thank you’ to all of our parents and carers who have worked so hard to support us. You can always get in touch with your class teacher using DB Primary and we are always happy to help. Please ensure that the children log in regularly to check their messages from their teachers and friends. We would also love to see some examples of projects the children have been completing. I have three fantastic examples to share, below, from Ruby, Freddie and Dylan. I was blown away by their efforts - outstanding effort all round! Take care and stay safe, Mr Pisano.

Potter Class Update - 20.3.20
Potter Class celebrated the world of Art today by reading and writing poetry. We studied a poem called ‘Silver’ by Walter de la Mare and studied a range of techniques in poetic writing. The children, in two groups, performed the poem to each other using their voices for effect and actions to entertain their audience. Their performances were outstanding!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This inspired us to create two works of art of our own: a poem and a clay sculpture. The children enjoyed brining their ideas to life and running wild with their creativity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earlier this week, we enjoyed exploring the properties of visible light in Miss Taylor’s fascinating science lesson!

I would like to say a huge thank you and well done to every single child in our class for their positive attitude and resilience throughout the past couple of weeks. I’m very sorry to be saying goodbye for now but look forward to reuniniting with the children again next term to make some wonderful new Year 6 memories. I hope you all stay happy and safe over the coming weeks.
To keep in touch, you can contact me via DB Primary between 1.30 and 3.00 on school days. The log-in details are in your child’s homework diary.
Finally, a huge congratulations to Hannah, our Pupil of the Week, for her outstanding determination and resilience these past few weeks.
Take care and see you soon,
Mr Pisano.

Potter Class Word Book Day 2020
Potter Class celebrated Wold Book Day 2020 by dressing up as characters from Roald Dahl’s famous children stories. The range of costumes were stunning and we had great fun listening to extracts from Dahl’s work, including his humorous take on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ fairytale. We even took part in some Roald Dahl inspired dancing. What an amazing day!

Potter Class Update - 7.2.20
It’s been another extremely busy few weeks in Potter Class. In English, we have been using formal language and the subjunctive form to write formal letters of complaint in a number of different situations. We have enjoyed sharing our disgust after an atrocious visit to the zoo and expressing our wishes and recommendations to resolve these issues.
In History, we have continued our learning about the Royal Family. We have explored the role of the Queen in government, how the sovereign is expected to respond to national disasters and consider the legacy of Princess Diana. It has been so interesting to explore some recent British history!
In Art, we have continued our royal theme where we have been designing Pop Art portraits of famous royals. We look forward to adding colour to our sketches next week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also took the time to discuss Mrs Edwards’ assembly linked to Mental Health Week. We discussed the theme of bravery and how we sometimes need to find the courage to ask for support from one another when times are challenging. We all shared our thoughts and ideas maturely and came to understand that we share many of the same worries in our everyday lives. Above all else, we came to accept that it is sometimes ok to feel nervous when facing challenging situations.
Oscar is our Pupil of the Week because of his enthusiasm towards his learning every week. He actively strives to meet his personal targets and respond to feedback on his work. Well done for such a positive mindset!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Pisano

Potter Class Update - 24.1.20
Here is a selection of Potter Class’ portraits of members of the Royal Family linked to our History topic, the British Monarchy in the 20th century. Everyone demonstrated an outstanding Growth Mindset while developing their artistic skills. Well done Year 6! You can take a closer look in our sketch books after school on Tuesday during our annual book look.

I would also like to say well done to Year 6 for persevering with their assessments this week. With a positive mindset, I am confident that we will continue to build our stamina and resilience as we refine our reading, arithmetic and problem solving skills. A huge congratulations to Ruby, our Pupil of the Week, for her continued positive attitude and determination this week.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Pisano.

Potter Class Update - 17.1.20
We’ve been enjoying our new topics this half term in Potter Class! In Computing on Monday, we explored the importance of encrypting data over the internet and we completed some code-breaking activities to help us understand the importance of keeping secure passwords for our online accounts.
Tumblr media
In History, we explored the early life of Queen Elizabeth II where we wrote a newspaper report about Her Majesty’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1953. Seren and Diya will have their work displayed on our a Wonderful Writing Wall this half term!
In Art, we have started to explore the iconic work of artist Andy Warhol. We will be printing our own pop-art portraits in his signature style next week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, in our Science lesson this week, we looked at the function of the blood in our bodies and we were surprised by the composition of the different elements of our blood. We carried out a blood transfusion experiment, using food colouring in water to represent the different blood groups, to investigate which recipients could successfully receive a donor’s blood in a transfusion.
Tumblr media
Ritika is our Pupil of the Week due to her outstanding use of punctuation and vocabulary to create an informal tone in her English work this week. Well done for your continued hard work and effort!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Pisano.

Happy New Year! In Potter Class this week, we dived headfirst into our new topics! We’ve been writing about the world of Avatar in English using colons and semi-colons. On Tuesday, we explored the birth of the House of Windsor and the abdication of Edward VIII in History as part of our new topic: the British Monarchy in the 20th century. Finally, we looked at the circulatory system and the heart as part of our new Science topic. There’s lots to look forward to over the coming weeks!

Potter Class Update - 18.12.19
Today we said a fond farewell to Mrs Slater who has been with Perryfields for over 8 years. Mrs Slater has been the most wonderful, caring and supportive friend for all of us in Potter Class and we will miss her dearly. Your new colleagues are so lucky to have you join them and we are confident that you will make so many new friends in your new job. Thank you for all of your kindness and support and we wish you a very happy 2020!

This morning, we decorated our banana bread and make some rather professional looking packaging. Well done everyone for your creative designs!

Year 6 Talent Show Acts!
Today was the end of term Talent Show and we had six stunning entries from our Year 6 classes that wowed the audience with their brilliant performances. A huge congratulations to Lucy B, who was awarded second place, winning house points for Fleming. In our eyes, you’re all winners and we’re all hugely proud of you all!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were also treated to a performance by the school’s British Sign Language choir with their version of ‘All I want for a Christmas is you’ which Lucy S took part in. Well done to the choir and Miss Kingston for such a lovely treat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finished the day with a festive paper chain challenge. Superb determination, perseverance and teamwork all round during the construction and eventual untangling of the completed paper chain which stretched the entire perimeter of our classroom!
Don’t forget that school will finish at 1.30 tomorrow for the Christmas holidays. Thanks you all for your lovely cards, messages and gifts for Mrs Slater, Miss Taylor and me. We are so overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. Thank you all so much!
Wishing you all a very happy and safe Christmas,
Mr Pisano.

Potter Class Update - 13.12.19
Christmas is in full swing at Perryfields! This week, the children were treated to Christmas dinner, the Year 4 Carol Service and even the Perryfields’ Got Talent Auditions! A huge well done to everyone who bravely auditioned. Congratulations to Ava, Freddie and Samuel who won the vote-off to gain a place in the final on Tuesday. This earned Samuel our Pupil of the Week award!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In English, we have been inspired by Edgar the Dragon, in this year’s John Lewis Advert, to write a set of instructions for caring for a dragon. Remember - a dragon is not just for Christmas!
Next week, we have the pantomime to look forward to plus we’ll be baking banana bread in D&T. Don’t panic though! We have already brought all of the ingredients so there’s no need to purchase anything; however, should the children wish to decorate their banana bread on Wednesday morning, they can bring some extras from home (e.g icing) if they want to. It’s entirely optional so no need to rush to the shops!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Pisano.
