JuJu Smith-Schuster leaving Steelers to sign with Chiefs on one-year, $10.75M max deal
JuJu Smith-Schuster nearly joined the Chiefs a year ago. Now, he's finally packing his bags for Kansas City.
Smith-Schuster is signing a one-year, $10.75 million max deal with the Chiefs, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Taylor Bisciotti reported. The deal is for a $3 million base salary, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, with the remainder potentially coming in incentives.
Smith-Schuster heads west after struggling through his worst season as a pro, a campaign in which the receiver caught just 15 passes for 129 yards in five games. He'd returned to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal for one last pursuit of a title with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but was unable to play a meaningful role due to injury while the Steelers clawed their way to a playoff berth.
Smith-Schuster was able to return for Pittsburgh's wild-card playoff game and caught five passes for 26 yards in a blowout loss to Kansas City. Now, he'll begin forging a new relationship with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes as part of Kansas City's explosive offense.

Report: Deshaun Watson new deal with Browns worth $230 million guaranteed
Deshaun Watson is making big money with the Cleveland Browns Deshaun Watson is not only getting traded to the Cleveland Browns per reports, but his new deal with Cleveland is being reported all all guaranteed, making NFL history.
Friday’s big news is Deshaun Watson is being traded to the Cleveland Browns for three first round picks, along with other compensation from the Browns, and in return Watson will be receiving a new five-year, $230 million contract from the Browns to be their new starting quarterback.
The contract is reported to be ALL GUARANTEED.
This is a win for the Texans because of all the draft capital they are being reported to be receiving will change the path of the franchise moving forward. This trade is also a huge win for Watson as the Browns are backing up the Brinks truck to his house and giving him a new NFL record for the most guaranteed money for any player.
The Browns now have the franchise quarterback they’ve been looking for since rejoining the NFL in 1999.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the following in his breaking news report on Watson’s new contract with the Browns on Friday:

Fake heiress Anna Sorokin makes new bid to fight deportation
NEW YORK (AP) — Anna Sorokin, the convicted swindler who claimed to be a German heiress to finance a posh lifestyle in New York, is making a new bid to fight deportation, a lawyer said Tuesday.
Sorokin, whose scheme inspired the recent Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” was taken into U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement custodynearly a year ago. She remained jailed in New York’s Hudson Valley on Tuesday, attorney Manny Arora said.
He said she filed papers Monday seeking to hold off being ejected from the country.
ICE on Tuesday said only that she remains in the agency’s custody.
Sorokin, who was convicted in 2019and spent more than three years behind bars, has since been challenging deportation. An appellate immigration judge last month declined to stop the 31-year-old German citizen from being removed.
Using the name Anna Delvey, Sorokin maneuvered her way into elite New York social circles by passing herself off as a socialite with a $67 million (61 million euros) fortune overseas, according to prosecutors. She falsely claimed to be the daughter of a diplomat or an oil baron.
Prosecutors said Sorokin falsified records and lied to get banks to lend, luxury hotels to let her stay and well-heeled Manhattanites to cover plane tickets and other expenses for her, stealing $275,000 in all.
Her trial lawyer cast her as an ambitious entrepreneur who got in over her head financially and was simply buying time to pay her debts.

Manchester United far from Premier League, Champions League contention - David de Gea
David de Gea has admitted Manchester United are "far away" from challenging in the Premier League and Champions League after being eliminated from Europe by Atletico Madrid.
Atletico defeated United 1-0 at Old Trafford as the LaLiga side advanced 2-1 on aggregate and into the Champions League quarterfinals. The loss condemns United to another year without a trophy after last lifting silverware in 2017 and De Gea accepted it will go down as a "bad year."
- Ogden: Man Utd the club where big stars go to fail - Stream ESPN FC Daily on ESPN+ (U.S. only) - Don't have ESPN? Get instant access
"It's difficult to describe with words how I feel, how we feel," said De Gea, "It's another tough moment for us. It is too many years without any trophies.
"I think we need to be clear, we want to achieve good things, fight for trophies, we don't just want to play for the top four, and be there so we need much more from everyone because this club is too big for where we are now.
"We are far from fighting for the Premier League and Champions League. We need much more from everyone."

Manchester United is where big stars go to struggle as Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid proves
MANCHESTER, England -- You know the script by now. Manchester United play a big game, their star players fail to perform as they are out-fought and out-thought by their opponents and, as surely as night follows day, they lose. Atletico Madrid's 1-0 Champions League win at Old Trafford, which sent United out of the competition at the Round of 16 stage, was simply the same old story.
You'll know the damning statistics too. United have won just two Champions League knockout ties since 2011, and there has been no home win in the knockout rounds since 2014. Since that 3-0 win against Olympiakos under David Moyes eight years ago, they have scored just one goal at Old Trafford after emerging from the group stage.
This is the modern-day Manchester United: a European heavyweight that has been knocked to the canvas more times than they care to remember since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and Renan Lodi's 41st minute goal on Tuesday was merely the latest hammer blow.
Spending money is one thing, but making it pay a dividend is another matter entirely, and United's failure to do that was a central factor in their exit against Diego Simeone's Spanish champions on Tuesday.
Paul Pogba, United's £89.1 million midfielder, started the club's biggest game of the season on the bench because interim manager Ralf Rangnick can't trust the France international to be disciplined enough defensively to play in a two-man midfield.
And captain Harry Maguire, the world's most expensive defender at £85 million, was substituted to the cheers of the United fans in the closing stages because, despite the team chasing a late equaliser, Rangnick felt it was a safer bet to take him off and throw on midfielder Juan Mata.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a £50 million right-back, did not even get off the bench, but the former Crystal Palace defender has started just six times since Rangnick took charge last December because he is regarded as a liability when he has the ball at his feet.
And although Marcus Rashford cost United nothing, having been developed by the club's youth system, the 24-year-old has since become one of their biggest stars. Yet after a lengthy period out of form, he also started on the bench.

Mitch Trubisky gets another chance to start — in Pittsburgh
The former Bears first-round pick agreed to sign a two-year deal with the Steelers on Monday, the first day teams were able to negotiate with player agents, a source confirmed. The move can’t be made official until the start of the league year Wednesday. But when it happens, Trubisky will get an opportunity he wasn’t afforded last year — to prove he can start.
It’s the best situation Trubisky could have hoped for, offering him the stability — and the offensive skill players — the Bears never could from 2017-20.
Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement at the end of the season left the Steelers with Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins and Josh Dobbs on their roster. None of those quarterbacks has a better resume than Trubisky, who won 29 of 50 starts with the Bears and reached the playoffs twice.
Trubisky even has a chance to be an immediate upgrade over a faded Roethlisberger, who averaged only 6.3 yards per pass attempt in 2020 and 6.2 last year. He’ll be surrounded by a roster that was good enough to reach the playoffs in each of the last two years, and with a head coach, Mike Tomlin, who is perhaps the most-respected in the league.
Contract details weren’t immediately available — a sign, perhaps, that Trubisky’s deal isn’t lucrative. The Steelers can still draft a quarterback No. 20 overall next month. But Trubisky is positioned better than he could have dreamed a year ago when, after the Bears refused to pick up his fifth-year option, he found no starting opportunities in free agency.
He signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal to be the Bills’ backup. Despite throwing only eight passes all season, he emerged as an attractive option to the increasing number of teams looking to fill their starting jobs. After a year of anonymity, he’ll have a chance to rehab his reputation, which was more affected by the quarterbacks taken after him in the draft: Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ all-world quarterback, and Watson.
If Trubisky succeeds, he’d help prove that former Bears head coach Matt Nagy was more to blame than the quarterback for the Bears’ offensive struggles.
For that and other reasons, Chicago will be watching.

The Braves Are Going to Miss Freddie Freeman
Fifteen years with the Braves, the last four as a top 10 MVP finisher, Freddie Freeman appears to be worth more to the Dodgers than to the only team he has known. It makes sense only when aging curves guide teams more than the halo effect of signing, developing and keeping a franchise player.
Atlanta appeared to pivot away from Freeman, 32, Monday when it sent four young players to Oakland to get first baseman Matt Olson, who is four years younger (and two years away from his own free agency). Olson is as capable a replacement for Freeman as could be had. But he is no Freeman.
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman celebrates after his team's 7–0 win over the Astros in Game 6 to capture its first World Series title since 1995. Freeman led the Braves to the World Series title last year and won the 2020 MVP, but they chose to trade for Matt Olson instead of the franchise icon.
Greg Nelson/Sports Illustated
Maybe there is a grand plan to keep Olson and Freeman, but no such signs have been evident from the Braves. Last year Freeman told friends that if the Braves dawdled with contract offers, he was prepared to return to his roots in Southern California. Atlanta whiffed on the chance to lock up Freeman during the season and after the 2021 World Series title. They reportedly offered Freeman $135 million over five years, which basically took the Paul Goldschmidt contract (five years, $130 million) and added $1 million a year.
From an accounting point of view, it might make sense. The Braves are taking two prime years of Olson (with the cost of the traded players attached) rather than assuming the risk of the downside to Freeman’s career—which has not been apparent yet.
Freeman soon will become the seventh first basemen to sign for an average annual value of $23 million or more. The previous six were Miguel Cabrera, Goldschmidt, Ryan Howard, Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder and Chris Davis. All signed for at least five years and through at least age 36.
How did those deals turn out? Not good. In 39 seasons under those contracts (not including two years left for Cabrera and Goldschmidt), those players returned only 12 qualified seasons of average or better offense (OPS+ of at least 100), with three of those 12 seasons coming from Goldschmidt in his three years with St. Louis. Legacies die hard, especially first basemen because of their general limited athleticism.
In rebuild mode, Oakland did well to focus on middle-of-the-field young talent, but the cost was not especially high for Atlanta to get Olson. Outfielder Cristian Pache is a wonderful Gold Glove caliber center fielder who may or may not hit. Catcher Shea Langeliers already is 24 with only 151 career pro games (in part because of COVID, which canceled the 2020 minor-league season; trading prospects of the COVID generation is a case study in the making). Young pitchers Ryan Cusack and Joey Estes have the quality fastballs that the A’s can dream on.
Olson has terrific power, is a fine defender, grew up in Georgia and has been a team leader since the minors. Braves fans will be happy with Olson.
Olson is one of the best first basemen in baseball, but he’s not Freeman.
Jayne Kamin-Oncea/USA TODAY Sports
But here is when they will miss Freeman: when there is a runner at second or third base and Freeman isn’t there to get him in. Freeman has an awkward hitting stroke that some wonder how it will hold up as he ages. But Freeman has such good hands and a quick path to the ball that despite its lack of beauty the swing is built for the long haul.
In today’s game, thanks to defensive shifts and bullpen specialists, you measure great hitters by how they do with runners in scoring position and what they do facing a relief pitcher for the first time in a game. Those are the hot spots. Freeman is among the very best. Let’s match Freeman and Olson to see what Atlanta might be losing:

PSG vs. Bordeaux result: Kylian Mbappe and Neymar score as home fans boo team
Kylian Mbappe and Neymar scored as Paris Saint-Germain responded to their Champions League elimination with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bordeaux in Ligue 1.
Mauricio Pochettino's team were the subject of boos and whistles throughout the match as the Parc des Prince crowd demonstrated their frustration at PSG's defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
It took PSG 24 minutes to open the scoring when Mbappe finished off a quick, one-touch passing move by the home team around the edge of the opposition penalty area.
MORE: UEFA open disciplinary proceedings vs. PSG chief
Despite this, PSG struggled to get going and were passive for much of the first half. Bordeaux sat deep, but had a number of good opportunities on the counter attack.

March Madness 2022: Selection Sunday starts at 3 p.m. PT on March 13
The Pac-12 will almost certainly have exactly 3 teams in the tournament this year: Arizona, UCLA, and USC. However, as of this morning it appears that all 4 #1 seeds will come from teams west of the Mississippi (Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas, and Baylor) which would be the first time that has ever happened. This comes on the heels of the first Final 4 to feature all teams west of the Mississippi last year (Gonzaga, UCLA, Baylor, Houston).
Sports betting may not be legal in the state of Washington but for those interested in checking out the betting lines for any of the tournament games you can find them at DraftKings once the bracket is released.
And for those interested in a form of betting where all you have to lose is your pride, join the UW Dawg Pound Tourney Pick’Em group at this link right here. It’s free to join and if you win you have the choice about whether to be insufferable about it or just accept your congratulations and move on with your life. It’s up to you! (Sorry, not sorry Rhaego).
Traditionally a lot of people only fill out a bracket for the men’s tournament. This year the women’s tournament finally has gotten the rights to be advertised as part of “March Madness”. The Degree Bracket Gap Challenge is trying to help increase gender equity across college basketball and is encouraging folks to fill out a bracket for the women’s tournament as well. You can head right here to fill out a bracket as well once the bracket becomes available with the grand winner earning $100,000 to be divided between themselves and the women’s college basketball program of their choice.

Journalist Brent Renaud is killed while reporting on the war in Ukraine
An adviser to Ukraine's interior ministry, Anton Gerashchenko, says U.S. video journalist Brent Renaud has been killed in fighting in Irpin, a suburb of Kyiv. Another journalist was wounded, he says.
In a statement posted on social media, Gerashchenko says Renaud "sacrificed his life trying to show the insidiousness, cruelty and ruthlessness of the aggressor."
Gerashchenko shared a video of an unidentified Ukrainian in camouflage and a police badge, announcing Renaud's death. The video shows what looks like Renaud's body on the ground behind him. NPR has not been able to independently confirm this video.
Another journalist for U.S. media tweeted that she had been at the scene and witnessed Renaud's body under a blanket.
Condolences are flooding in, including from the head of Harvard's Nieman Foundation, where Renaud was a past fellow.
"Brent's filmmaking was exceptional and what made it so was not just his abundant skill but a kindness and deep humanity he brought to his work," Nieman curator Ann Marie Lipinski wrote. "He told us that what he sought in his journalism was 'thoughtful stories about disenfranchised people,' and he lived up to that credo every day. His death is a devastating loss."

Lakers: Talen Horton-Tucker Addresses Screaming Into Kyle Kuzma's Face
It was a pretty wild night at Crypto.com Arena on Friday. LeBron James went off for 50 points and the Lakers finally walked away with a win. It was much-needed, but the support from role players was huge.
Talen-Horton Tucker, Malik Monk, and Austin Reaves all stepped up when it mattered. When the Wizards started to focus more on shutting down LeBron late in the game, those 3 guys got into space and helped to keep the lead intact.
But there was one moment from THT that caught the attention of everyone. After LeBron drained another three, THT appeared to yell into the face of former Lakers star Kyle Kuzma. Kuz never seemed to react.

Deshaun Watson is legally cleared of criminal charges
Deshaun Watson did not say much in the first two depositions on Friday.
The long-awaited deposition of Deshaun Watson began Friday, with the first two of 22 total depositions being carried out. Rusty Hardin said that Watson would invoke the fifth amendment to avoid incriminating himself. The deposition lasted close to three hours.
That’s not the only Watson-related news that happened today. Less than a mile away, a grand jury met to discuss if Watson would face any criminal charges. While it was reported in the last update that all of the accusations were civil lawsuits, they could still turn into criminal charges.
But that grand jury ruled that Watson will not face criminal charges- news that broke during the writing of this article.
