Navigating the Maple Leaf Trail: A Digital Marketer's Journey from Ahmedabad, India to Toronto, Canada
I felt lost and confused during the early phases of my digital marketing career, not knowing which niche was the greatest fit for me and finding it difficult to make genuine contacts in the field. I made the decision to take these obstacles on head-on and make a commitment to personal development after moving to Canada.
One of the most important things I did was enrol in George Brown College's 12-week Digital Media Marketing Seminar Series. Our guest speaker’s observations and career guidance served as catalysts for constructive transformation. The results were more than just job advancement; they were a major turning point in my career.
I had the chance to attend a number of Digital Media Marketing Seminars as part of my course, which included industry speakers discussing subjects like social media marketing, content marketing, SEO, analytics, and more. I want to share with you in this post what I took out from these seminars, how I networked with other participants and the lecturers, and how all of that helped me grow in my career.
The Marketing Seminars were very informative and insightful. I learned a lot of new concepts, strategies, and best practices that I can apply to my own projects and campaigns.

Jennifer Melton, talked about her career and how to be out there in the industry. She also talked about the campaign insights and audience insights that are crucial for the promotion. She also shares some tips and tricks according to her expertise that can help to perform well in campaign management.
Sam Leung, talked about Machine Learning & AI for the future of marketing. Why it is important to learn and understand new emerging tech that can help in marketing success. What platforms of marketing use AI and machine learning in different forms for performance enhancement and success?
Danielle Humilde, talked about UI/UX Design and development and the importance of UX in website success. Explained the report reading and statistics that are important for website analysis.
One of the benefits of attending these seminars was that I got to network with the speakers and other attendees, who were also digital marketing professionals or students. I made sure to follow up with them while case study tasks, by making connection on LinkedIn and messages.
The most significant lesson I took away from these seminars was the fact that digital marketing is a dynamic, ever-evolving sector that necessitates ongoing learning, experimentation, and adaptability rather than a one-size-fits-all strategy. I discovered that in order to effectively reach and engage my audience as a digital marketer, I must be up to date on the newest trends, technologies, and tools. Additionally, I must be adaptable and innovative in my approach to solving problems and seizing chances that present themselves in the field.
Networking and building a relationship:
Tumblr media
I have been active on LinkedIn since long time and I have been making connection their which helped me to understand the industry and get inspiration of work they do. Regular conversation over LinkedIn helped me a lot.
I have networked with many and want to mention few of them who are from weather George Brown or from the industry.
Madison Sterling, Garth Armstrong, Ron Johnson, Sana Rashid, Alain Dubois, Clive Anchan, Gautham Shanthakumar, Chase Miller, Ashley Turner and more.
Some of the people I networked with worked for some of the companies I was interested in, or knew someone who did, so they gave me some referrals and recommendations. My application stood out from the competition because to these recommendations and referrals, which also helped me get recognised and asked for interviews.
Some of the people I networked with gave me criticism and suggestions after reviewing my portfolio and résumé or doing simulated interviews with me. My confidence and prospects of getting recruited grew as a result of the comments and guidance I received, which also helped me prepare for the interviews and enhance my portfolio and CV..
Below are the groups that help me to grow exponentially:
Tumblr media
Attended events that were related to upcoming and ongoing trends in digital marketing. Events that I have attended for knowledge and networking:
Tumblr media
Using personal networking skills and LinkedIn Jobs for my investigation of job hunting.
Sarting with conversation with experts and hiring executives to getting referral and freelance work. I got insights about how things work and how is going to be in the future for my career path.
Networking is more than just passing business cards and accumulating contacts on LinkedIn; it's about connecting with people who genuinely and meaningfully share your interests, ambitions, and aspirations.
Instead than being a one-time or one-way event, networking is a continuous, mutual process that calls for involvement, follow-up, and contact. Maintaining communication with your contacts is important. You should provide them value and support and ask for the same in return.
George Brown College's seminar series proved revolutionary as I embarked on my digital marketing journey from Ahmedabad to Toronto. Aside from learning about the ever-changing digital marketing world, the networking element was crucial. It emphasised the need for lifelong learning and important contacts in shaping my understanding of the area and advancing my career in Toronto, Canada.
