For the born traveller, travelling is a besetting vice. Like other vices, it is imperious, demanding its victim’s time, money, energy and the sacrifice of comfort.

London v. New York City
Traveling on the weekends and just being in London, you meet a lot of people. Coming home from our plane in London, we met a couple from Padua, Italy who have been living in London for 8 months. They did not love London as much as we did because it was too crowded for them coming from a small city where there wasn’t so much city chaos. As New Yorkers we loved London because of how much less crowded it is. When comparing it to NYC, London is calm, organized and clean. Lists are my fave, so here’s a list of why I love LDN so much: 1. Tubes are super clean! Since the underground is closed at night, they have time to clean them. 2. The tube is very organized. There are barely any tube delays resulting in being super late to work. In the 19 days I have been here there was only one train delay. In NYC there is a delay every single day. 3. Streets are just as clean as the tube. One of our speakers told us not to wear open shoes because we would go home with dirty feet. I tested this theory and my feet were way cleaner than when I wear sandals in NYC. 4. Instead of the normal chaos when walking the streets in NYC, walking around in London is much more relaxed. You can tell we are New Yorkers because we walk faster than most people here. Everywhere we go it’s like we are rushing, but Londoners take it slow. 5. When the sun comes out, all the parks are packed with people. London doesn’t get much sun, so when they do everyone stays in it as long as possible. 6. In the good weather, people have picnics and drink wine in the parks. In London people are much more relaxed and are able to enjoy a bottle of wine at the park. Most of the time, when they are leaving the park, they take all their rubbish to the bins, leaving the park clean. #LondonLanguage #ImOneOfThem

You can get super cheap flights from EasyJet... If you're willing to deal with an hour delay for every flight

Oh Hot Dam, This is My (Amster)Jam:
A word to the wise: Book your hotel/hostel weeks or even months before your trip! I didn’t do that but I wish I did! I left for Amsterdam Friday and decided to book a hotel Thursday at 12 am… not a good idea. Mom to the rescue!! While I was freaking out about having to sleep on the streets, I called up my mom and within an hour she had a room booked for me. Side Note: Moms are the best and can help with pretty much anything! #ShoutOutToMyMom #HiMom Before going to Amsterdam I thought it would be crowded, dirty, and full of drugs and prostitutes. Boy was I wrong. It was a bit crowded and there were drugs and prostitutes but it was all contained in one area, the Red Light District. The rest of Amsterdam was beautiful! There was a canal at every intersection with tall , thin houses bordering them… I guess the shape of the houses explains why the Dutch are so tall and thin. My favorite part of the weekend was renting bikes and going to Vondelpark. It was a beautiful day for a ride through the park. The Dutch are bike extraordinaires and will run you over if you get in their way. Albeit it was a great two hour ride through the park that led us to the “IAMSTERDAM” sign. The only issue was getting on and off the bike. At 5’2 I did not reach the height requirement of my bike so trying to get on and off the bike was my biggest struggle. Every time I got off the bike, it would fall on me and I would look like a silly American trying to fit in with the Dutch.

I’ve Been Tricked
I was told that my job would be tons of fun and I would gain a lot of industry knowledge. But it is not lots of fun at all. Luckily the people I work with are very funny because they are the ones who keep me awake during the day… as well as 3 cups of coffee. My supervisors are awesome people… when they have time to talk. But they are so busy with the upcoming event that they have barely have time for me. My tasks have been to follow people on the company Twitter and call a list of 948 people. So far I have followed over 1,000 people and called about 570 people. I learned a lot of valuable lessons from completing those tasks: 1. There are a lot of strange people in the Twittersphere. 2. Finding people on twitter is harder than just typing their name in and following the first person that pops up. I could probably be a detective now with all the stalking skills I’ve gained. 3. All companies should have a Twitter account and post daily if not more. 4. Most people do not want to hear anything a telemarketer has to say. I could be giving these people free puppies and they would find any excuse to hang up on me. 5. The few people that actually stay on the phone are the best kind of people. 6. People get very confused when a person with an American accent is calling them from a London number.

My all time favorite... The Palace of Versailles. I could spend a lifetime here and wouldn't get tired of it.

Bonjour Paris
The good news about having weekends free is that we can travel wherever we want. I’ll start by saying Paris is beautiful… in certain areas. The areas where there are a lot of tourists sites are incredible, but once you leave it gets a little sketchy. We tried to squeeze as much as we could in 2 short days. We were able to see the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, and the Palace of Versailles. My favourite part are the Gardens at Versailles, which are gigantic. That in itself could take a day to see, but sadly we only had 4 hours. I wish we had more than 48 hours to see Paris, because the next day in class we were more than exhausted.

One of my favourite things about London is that there is Indian food everywhere! And it’s all delicious!! London has Indian food like New York has Chinese food.

School ain't for fools
Side Note: I was not looking forward to having classes every Monday and Friday, but they are actually very interesting. The speakers are very attention-grabbing because they talked to us about marketing from a Londoner's perspective. One of our speakers was from America and had lived in London for 25 years. He was my favorite because not only did he speak to us about London, he also compared it to many things in America. My favorite part of the classes are when we go out on tours. So far we’ve gone on a walking tour and saw most of central London, BBC, the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum.
