Beauty in the eye of the beholder
Beauty is a controversial idea that has existed since the beginning of time, but what is beauty? There is no concrete definition for it. I believe that beauty is a social construct. It is created by society’s standards, judged by fashion choice, body type and economic stance. Beauty is a powerful idea that is shared by everybody across the globe. It is subjective, differing from each person, community, or culture. For example, in Mauritania the most attractive women are overweight. Meanwhile, in the United States full figures and stretch marks are considered off-putting and thin women are often the best. These two polar body types are both considered as beauty in different parts of the world. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” was first said in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It’s an influential quote that shows that beauty really is relative and is different to each person. So, is beauty just a social construct? Is it something we all share? And are you the one that decides what beauty is? Your values matter, speak up beholder.

"Sometimes people are stickers. Stickers that have been super glued to your mind and won't come off, and even though you try as hard as you can to get it off, it won't work. Because no matter what, there will always be some piece of that sticker left"

And I sat there under the willow tree that he used to love me unconditionally under, shedding tears of black mascara onto its trunk asking why he left. Asking what happened to the love we shared, what happened to it all. I then realized all trees fall. So I guess our tree fell.

eat me the dawn, i am the firecracker you forgot in your pocket, the mistake on your midterm, the smear of lipstick you can’t explain to your mom, the girl you think about kissing but never make a move on oh i glimmer but what kind of planets want me as their sun when i’m just a fury that’s begging to come undone, a supernova in slow motion, a chaos no one caused, a date nobody ever showed up on oh god i write better drunk and fuck better drunk and love you better when i’m not trying to set myself on fire with these clumsy fingers and come here you soft lips and wide smile and all full of a tessellation i can get lost in and i’m drunk, and i’m drunk, and if i’m drunk than nothing matters to these soft palms and i can escape into better hipbones and we can whisper poetry in between them - i write better intoxicated, i write better bitter about love i’m a mistake we laugh about when we’re all taking shots, i’m a failure and ready to puncture the sweet spot in my lungs and you are a tenderness i can press until the bruise of you makes me feel alive again don’t tell anybody but i almost kissed you about seventeen times tonight don’t tell anybody but i kinda wanna die don’t tell anybody but nothing is fine but i’m alright yeah i’m alright

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out.
Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper (via lazypacific)
