There is no telling, really. In fact, even after their 5–2 victory over Rome in the semi-final's first leg, it is not certain yet that we will be seeing them in Kiev (though it is very likely.) Liverpool have everything that it takes to conquer Europe once again and put their hands around their 6th UCL trophy, and here are some of the reasons why: Mohamed Salah. This just might be the most important reason. Salah is in an incredible shape. The impact that this player alone is having on the overall structure and psychology of the team is indescribable. Not only is he scoring every time he is given even the slightest of chances, or creating opportunities out of thin air and thus becoming a massive threat going forward: The Egypt international is simply a sensation amongst the people and, unlike with Messi and Ronaldo, (because of personal and club rivalries) everyone wants to see this man succeed. In huge moments when Liverpool needs it the most, Mo is there to deliver and that brings stability and confidence to himself and his teammates. Liverpool know who they are. It is reasonable to argue that a club's history should carry no weight, and that all that matters is right now. I personally used to believe this, until I took a look at clubs like PSG and Manchester City who have never won this trophy before. These two both exceeded €120 million in signings for the 2018 summer transfer window to reinforce their squads and create what seemed like unplayable sides. Both teams completely dominated their respective leagues. They were impressive even in the Champions League group stage. But as soon as the moment came to step up and play at their highest level to beat the big clubs, they froze. This seems to have become the norm: PSG are exceptional this year! The Champions League has got to be theirs for sure. And then the disappointment follows. They are out in the round of sixteen. On the other hand, we have clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool (who happen to have eliminated the two clubs just mentioned this season, and certainly not by chance.) The players know it. At Anfield, a reminder of who “the lads” are playing for is literally on the walls of the dressing room tunnels. At Santiago Bernabéu, well, they don't even have to be reminded of their club's greatness. The fans know it more than anyone. The vast majority of them have seen their team lift a Champions League trophy, and that alone carries significance. Games in these stadiums are a nightmare for any rival that should cross their path. The atmosphere is perfect for the home team. Fans of most European clubs are not even close to being able to create such a determinant factor. Attacking trio. The numbers certainly speak for themselves, but watching these three play together is simply a privilege in this era of football. When I talk about it, I like to start with Roberto Firmino. Before coming to Liverpool, the Brazilian used to play in a different position. He has never been a natural striker, and will likely never be. And he should not! He fits this squad's system perfectly, and has a massive influence with and without the ball. Going back deep allows him to confuse defenders and open up a lot of space for the other two, providing many assists. His work rate and physicality are outstanding. Mané and Salah are very similar to each other. Both are able to create chances in the counter attack, which is arguably Liverpool's best attribute, because of their pace. They are usually there at the right place and time to hit the back of the net. The three of them have unquestionable talent and intelligence, and one would have to look back some years to find an attacking trio as brilliant as this one. Jürgen Klopp. One has to appreciate what this manager has been able to achieve both with Borussia Dortmund and right now. His tactics are effective beyond doubt and the fact that he has UCL experience, having led a club even in a final, make him highly prepared to finish this job off. At this point he has few to lose. Of course, he will be doing everything in his power to win this competition, and that tends to be enough when we are talking about Klopp. Style of play. I am getting to the real catch of this question, and of course it involves Real Madrid. Not very surprisingly, they have done it again. Their 1–2 victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena puts one of their feet inside the final. So the real question here could become, can Liverpool beat Real Madrid in a single, decisive match? Well, if there is anyone in the world that can do it in this specific competition right now, it is Liverpool. There is a lot of merit to consistently scoring 3 to 5 goals against any rival that they have been put in front. Even if the final will be a much higher level of football than before, they can manage to score goals. Their offensive dominance should greatly concern Zidane, as he has yet to face such a unique style of play. The experience, leadership, composure, and talent that Sergio Ramos possesses should be key in this matchup, but I cannot see even him being able to stop this goalscoring machine completely. Now, the same argument can work for Real Madrid too, so I will get to the next point. Defense stability. In recent seasons, Liverpool's defense has been their weakest attribute. They have conceded too many unnecessary goals and that has been one of the reasons for the club's lack of elite competitiveness before this year. Although not yet nearly perfect, their defense has taken a step forward with the arrival of Virgil van Dijk. He has brought organization and leadership to the backline. There are never guarantees against Madrid, but at least they will not have it easy. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been remarkable so far. He has remained calm and done his job well. Regardless of this, just thinking about having to defend Cristiano Ronaldo (or even Franck Ribéry, whoever it turns out to be) in the most important game of his career so far, AS A 19 YEAR OLD? That is a nightmare, to say the least. I still believe he can manage it. They must do it for everyone. This is not even a proper reason. But I know that many of us are getting somewhat tired of seeing the same story repeated year after year, and it would be very refreshing to see a team which has not done it in 13 years win the Champions League this season. Too many people have started to believe in this possibility. Just knowing that they have a realistic chance of going all the way and that most of the people following this sport across the globe know it too, and want to see this happen, is a reason for Liverpool to commit their heart and soul to this. The Reds want to bring trophies back home because they have not done so in many years. They have all of the motivation and reasons to do so, and right now it really is their time to prove themselves to those in doubt, because as usual there are people who are already handing this trophy to another team. But Levis feels that the challenges he faced have helped toughen him."I think this past year, the season didn't go as well as we would have wanted it to," he said. "But I mean, I learned a lot from it. I learned how to kind of battle through adversity and just dealt with a lot of things physically."I think it just made me a better kind of player (and) a better quarterback because of it."Levis understands that he has his fair share of doubters, both inside and out of the league. Yet he knows he's in exactly the right place this week to solidify himself as a high draft pick and possibly as the first quarterback taken. INDIANAPOLIS -- Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett spoke with media members on Friday for the first time since his arrest for public intoxication in late January.Bennett was contrite in his responses, acknowledging he cannot afford to make such a mistake, especially with his football future hanging in the balance this spring."It was a mistake that everybody's aware of," Bennett said at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. "I understand why that can't happen. I've talked to coaches about it, talked to GMs. Apologized to my family. That's who I feel worst about. I felt like I let them down, because no matter where I go now -- and even without all of this -- I've got an obligation. I'm the fourth (Bennett named Stetson). Can't do that if your last name is Bennett, and I know better."Bennett told reporters on Friday that he's spent the week answering questions from teams regarding his arrest, which will naturally be included in each club's scouting report."I just try to be honest," Bennett said when asked how he approached such conversations. "I feel like I don't put a lot of myself out there on purpose, so the stuff that people do get of me, they run with. They try to read into it instead of just seeing what it is. I try to be honest with them, just like I try to be honest with you guys every single time I'm up here. That's what I'll continue to do."Bennett is already facing an uphill battle. Listed at 5-foot-11, he's been pegged as a probable backup in the NFL, due in part to his size. Winning pedigree aside -- Bennett helped the Bulldogs win consecutive national championships in his final two seasons at Georgia -- most general managers are seeking bigger signal-callers, and if they're willing to sacrifice height, the quarterbacks in question must possess dynamic athletic ability.Bennett doesn't quite fit that mold. His decision to skip the Senior Bowl, and his arrest -- which occurred on the same weekend during which players arrived in Mobile, Alabama, for Senior Bowl week -- didn't help as he attempts to make his case to prospective NFL clubs.Ultimately, it will be up to Bennett to prove his worthiness to every team considering drafting him in April. From there, the work will begin, no matter the role he's given."My obligation is to the team that I'm drafted to, to be the best player for that," Bennett said. "To learn, to play football. ... I keep my head down, I play ball. Whatever's asked of me is asked of me. My job when I get there ... you've got to be the best player to play. ... And I started calling myself Cam Jackson in the 11th grade, just trying to make big plays."Richardson put together an enticing highlight reel in 2022 during his redshirt sophomore campaign, which saw him put up 2,549 yards (212.4 per game) and a 17:9 TD-to-INT ratio through the air, as well as 654 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. But questions remain about his decision making, accuracy and overall polish at the game's most challenging position. After posting an underwhelming 53.8 percent completion rate in 2022, the young signal-caller has been working on his mechanics in recent months."Just being consistent with my accuracy. Using my arm, using my hips, using my feet, you know, just tying it all together and being consistent," Richardson said. "Using my hips. A lot of people say I have a big arm, and I do believe so, but you can't just muscle the ball around all day -- that's not gonna work. You gotta be tuned up, you gotta be tuned in with your mechanics."While acknowledging there are areas he needs to work on, Richardson scoffs at some of the analysis of his game and his NFL readiness."I don't even know what that means, 'project label,' " Richardson said. "I'm willing to bring anything and everything that they need from me. I'm gonna work, I'm gonna be dedicated to my craft, I'm gonna be a leader in that organization. INDIANAPOLIS – Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who could be one of the smallest first-round quarterbacks drafted in many years, faced a number of questions about his height and weight on Friday. Young told reporters he expects to check in at around "200 pounds" at his weigh-in at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine and believes the concerns about his lack of mass are overblown."I've been this size, respectfully, my whole life," Young said during his combine news conference. "I know who I am. I know what I can do."What Young can do -- in a two-year span as the Crimson Tide's starter -- is win the Heisman Trophy, lead his team to a 23-4 record and have an 80-to-12 TD-to-INT ratio while throwing for 8,356 yards. "You know, I make sure I explain how I play the game -- how I see the game, my process, being able to get big plays."NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah rates Young as his No. 3 overall prospect. While acknowledging that Young's "narrow frame raises concerns about his durability at the next level," Jeremiah also notes that Young "can avoid free rushers and extend plays, always keeping his eyes up to capitalize down the field with his arm" and "will take the free yards with his legs when necessary," which should reduce some of the size concerns.Notes Jeremiah: "If Young can maintain his health, he should quickly emerge as a quality starting quarterback in the NFL."Young said on Friday he has met with several teams, including the owners of the first- (Chicago Bears) and second-overall picks (Houston Texans) in the 2023 NFL draft. The Bears continue to suggest they’re more open to trading down, but they're doing their due diligence on the QB crop at the combine. The Texans, along with multiple other teams picking relatively high in the draft, appear to be very much in the QB draft market.Although Young isn't expected to throw at the combine, he's expected to do so at Alabama's pro day on March 23.Asked how he's tried to project himself to teams, Young fell back on two key traits: toughness and mental acuity."I feel like I'm someone who pushes myself, and I pride myself as far as my preparation and processing and leading the offense," he said. "And, you know, for me, I make sure that I do whatever I feel like is best for the team. I try to make efficient decisions, and every time whether it's run or pass -- I try to make sure that I'm playing the most efficiently for the betterment for the team."Young also was asked what the biggest misconception was about his game. It certainly would have been easy for Young to take the low-hanging fruit here and push back against the size-related narratives. Few likely would have blamed Young had he done it. Instead, Young chose a higher road, continuing to sidestep the noise about his measurables almost as well as he evaded pressure in college."To be honest, I don't really know too much that's out there about me," he said. "I'm grateful for everyone's opinions and for the media for all the coverage and everything."But honestly, I'm not really on social media that much. I'm not really watching too much about me. "It's what I want to do. I don't have any experience. I know what a great football team looks like. I know what a winning football team looks like. A great staff, great equipment guys, great athletic trainers. I know what that looks like, I know what it takes to build those teams but that's it."So I'm here to meet with guys, for the guys to give me instructions on what to do with my right foot next and what to do with my left foot next. And make the first steps to making this happen."Being a future exec is something Miller has discussed before. During the season, he discussed it on The Pat McAfee Show while rehabbing from his torn ACL.While some players make lofty declarations then never follow through, Miller showing up to Indy to learn the minutia of the offseason process signals an earnestness about building his experience for a second career.Miller said he wants to follow in the footsteps of other former players who became GMs, like John Elway, who drafted the edge rusher in 2011."To be honest the dream it really started with John,'' Miller said. "To see a former player come back in the league and be a GM and win a Super Bowl as a player and win a Super Bowl as a GM? Oh my gosh. That's where the dream really started. John Elway won a Super Bowl on the field and off the field. He's the G.O.A.T."And then you leave and you go to L.A. and you're around Les Snead and you think you can be a cool GM, too. And then you leave there and go to the Buffalo Bills with Brandon Beane and you think, this job is really attractive.
