His bag was heavier than he expected. He had grabbed just a few things before getting out of that house as soon as possible. After he was told to get out of his father’s house. Away from his father’s family. A family Moose was no longer a part of.
His hands were shaking when he knocked on the door, the weight of his bag making the strap dig into his shoulder painfully. The tears on his face had dried by now. Tears he told himself were caused by anger, not hurt, not sadness. Because that was a kind of satisfaction he would not give to his father. The words he said were meant to hurt so Moose couldn’t let them. The moments before the door opened crawled by painfully slow. His mind was racing, running over mistakes he had made, thoughts he had pushed away for a long time. He wondered if maybe he was crossing a line with this. Lines that were blurry by now, but still lines.
He thought about running, letting the Keller’s believe some dumb kids from down the street were playing ding-dong-ditch. Maybe go to Reggie or Ginger or Cheryl. But before he could even finish that line of thought, the door opened. He didn’t even know what to say. He thought about what to say on the way here, so much he remembered, but now all those carefully constructed were gone and all he managed was a weak “Can I come in?”, sounding a lot more broken lost than he ever intended.
@prepstarkevin
Kevin had been playing video games, not staring at his phone while spending his off day relaxing in the comfort of his own home. He was terrible about responding to text messages when the second screen had his attention, and he did see the messages from Moose but didn’t read too much into them until the round of the game had ended.
The knock at the door only brought confusion as he wondered who could be at the door without altering him. Days of just knocking were obsolete when you could just text someone and enjoy the awkward waiting while not having to deal with the anxiety of a parent or someone you weren’t looking to meet at the door. His game was at a position to where he could back away from the screen.
Seeing Moose at the door brought an immediate smile to his face, but it wasn’t replicated. Moose looked like his world had been flipped upside down, and the giant bag didn’t make reading the situation any easier. “Hey Moose..it’s good to see y-” Tom Keller had walked up behind Kevin, greeting Moose with the usual hello. His dad didn’t ask about the two of them to Kevin, but there had to be some idea seeing as how Moose was over often.
Kevin lightly grabbed Moose’s wrist and pulled him inside. “I have to show Moose something upstairs, Dad. We will see you at dinner?” He stated, and his dad agreed knowing something was up. Moose’s earlier tone confirmed that Kevin’s suspicions were correct, and he immediately felt awful because he didn’t know what to do. Once they were inside Kevin’s room, he grabbed Moose’s bag and placed it near his bed. Kevin brought Moose over to the bed, sitting next to him and putting his arm over Moose’s neck as an added sense of comfort. “What’s wrong?” He looked at Moose in the eyes, as he wondered what was wrong and even he was wanting to help. “You don’t have to tell me until you’re ready but I want to know so I can help. I’m assuming something happened at home if you have a bag like that packed. You can stay here as long as you want..my dad won’t mind and you know that you’re always welcomed here.”

This was an entirely new level for Moose, and Kevin of the sorts. This was all a lot easier with Joaquin, and this had Kevin in the moment see that Moose was a person he was willing to wait for. Other people have tried this exact thing and Kevin would pull a Blacc China to the Kevin Kardashians of this world. Moose Mason managed to have Mason fall head over heels for him and Kevin’s patience was being tested but it was also worth it. Not only did Moose treat Kevin in ways that no other guys before, but he realized that his feelings have been lingering far longer than just these past few weeks. “Good, because I don’t want to. I wanted to say this for a couple of weeks now without sounding..selfish.” Kevin often put others before himself and he knew from speaking with Archie that he needed to state how he felt and be truthful. “I don’t want to rush you. The last thing I want to do is make you feel like we have to rush this.”
Moose was trying, and that was enough for Kevin. It felt like the world was lifted from Kevin. The steps taken after this were going to be easier, and this would all hopefully work out without a lot of pain. At least now the two could share a lot more and not let sex or a make-out session interrupt what needed to be discussed. Kevin giggled while Moose kissed Kevin’s body in several places, and in the moment he grabbed Moose’s right hand with his own. “I’m an expert in being quiet, Marmaduke.” The man’s actual name fell off his tongue, loving saying it in whatever moment. “Guess we’ll have to see. It’s been a while..” And a while was only a few days. He hovered their lips over one another, looking at Moose in the eyes for several moments. “Something tells me this time is going to be different.” The both of them were fresh off a talk about how much they felt with one another, and Kevin’s look of lust had to be a different one. His body had been lightly grinding against Moose’s, his bottom lip retracting into his mouth. He looked into Moose’s eyes for a moment before glancing down at the body of the other. “You do realize that your abs and muscles are making it harder for me to not attack you with everything. Seriously, Moose..You’re probably the hottest guy I’ve encountered and..” He ended his words by attacking Moose’s lips, grinding his body harder against the other’s. “Believe me when I say…I’m seriously all yours.” Once again he attack the other with his lips, going a lot more sloppy and faster than usual but managing to be in such a rush he’d never experienced before.
“Don’t do that,” he said softly, looking at Kevin and hoping that he’d be able to see that he actually meant it. “Don’t just not say things because you’re worried how I might react. If something’s bothering you, I want to know.” It was Moose who was selfish all the time. Selfish for having a girlfriend, selfish for sneaking Kevin into his room, selfish for denying him all the things he wanted. The least he could do was make sure Kevin was free to say whatever he was thinking without fear of how Moose would take it.
“Everything’s different lately,” he replied with a light snicker, still remembering how a few days ago he had first kissed Kevin. And now they were lying in his bed, talking about being boyfriends and being serious and feelings. It was completely bizarre and at the same time absolutely perfect. Still, Kevin’s compliments brought a smile to his face, something Moose was sure would never change. “And I’m all yours. You know that,” he reassured one more time because in this moment, right there and then, he could tell him, show him, make sure he would remember it in all of the million other moments when he couldn’t be this open about it. He moved down again, sucking and biting on the soft skin of Kevin’s neck, leaving a trail of hickeys all the way down to his collarbone. A few days ago he had claimed to not be the kind of person who marked, but now that Kevin was so willingly declaring that he was his and his alone, he decided that others might as well know that.
Kevin had been an expert at trying to stay on the good side of others, no matter how much he had to sacrifice. His darker eyes looked into Moose’s, smiling at his genuine and sympathetic words. “You’re opening up a can of worms that I’m proud to hand to you.” He placed his hand on Moose’s cheek for several moments, kissing him lightly on his lips. “I want it to be just us..Kevin and Moose.” This felt like a television show for some reason, but it was a show Kevin wanted to replay in his mind. Memory wise, this would stay with him and hopefully it will be an outlasting memory and not a look back on the good times.
“I’m not complaining.” He shrugged, for once feeling good about saying how he feels and not some just emotional rush that ended badly. They had their fair share of fights and arguments but this one ended for the better. Kevin moved his head up to give Moose as much access to his neck as he wanted. He didn’t know what he was going to do to hide the many hickeys Moose loved making on his neck but it was a minor thing. “You should prove just how much I’m yours.” Kevin backed his head away, giving Moose another innocent look. “Also, you might want to turn some music on...kinda hard to be quiet with you, babe.”

Betty giggled a little to his comment recalling Kevin in his younger days, “I recall but i haven’t seen you do it in a while..” She heard the cracking in his voice of how unsure he was about the entire situation, “ You two?” The blonde lowered her voice knowing the two had a moment once or twice but she never expected it to reach this point, at least without more information as time had gone by. The blonde began to compartmentalize the entire story: Moose and Kevin, moose dating midge and lastly Kevin telling Archie and of course Archie freaking out. She kept her voice quiet just for cautious reasoning, “Sounds like you might have a small crush..” The blonde smirked raising an eyebrow at her best friend knowing the thought of that was kryptonite to Kevin, she took a sip of her shake feeling happy for him though, at least someone around here was figuring things out, “But what about.. The other girl? She has to notice something is off, I mean if you two are together so much how is she thinking everything is fine?” She looked at Kevin mildly worried that Midge might do something to hurt the two which to Betty was beyond uncalled for, even if the two were sneaking around her.
The blonde sighed hearing Kevin asking her how her life was, She let her regular tone and sound of voice return before she spoke, “Well I was suppose to meet my dad the seat you currently reside in was meant for him but we can both see how that turned out. Also I have yet to talk to Jug about anything including something that happened between me an Arch. And here I am pretending everything is perfectly fine when all I want to do is scream.” Betty scrunched her face unable to recall if Kevin knew about the kiss that happened between her and Archie. Life has been so hectic between everyone lately things honestly began to blur together.
“Riverdale is changing me.” Kevin called the town cursed at times and didn’t know if he was starting to believe it. “Yeah..it’s gone a lot farther than any one of us would have thought.” Kevin recalled every moment he’s spent with Moose, even spending more time with him than his friends. “It’s much more than a small crush. It’s evolved into me having such strong feelings that I can see myself dating him.” He thought about Midge, and sighed. “He’s going to break up with her and a lot of it is because I was hooking up with him and decided to spill my feelings right before. I even ignored his abs to talk about us...Moose and I.” That was a big deal to Kevin because hooking up always came before feelings. “I haven’t really spoken with her but this is all out of whack. I asked Moose if he would be jealous if I was hooking up with someone else and I could tell the thought bothered him that I was hooking up with someone else. It’s honestly like him and I are together without..the title?”
He dreaded Betty having to deal with her family drama because she didn’t deserve it. “Wait...you and Archie kissed?” That was sad that was all he really got from the conversation. “You’re saying it in a way that doesn’t sound like the way you dreamed it. Also, totes sorry about your dad I’m sure this situation will play out in your favor. Everything is complicated in Riverdale but it ends up working out at some point for a certain length of time.” Kevin and Betty were both caught in this weird string of events. “Can I tell you one good thing though? I honestly hope Moose and I start dating. I’m willing to deal with him being deep in the closet and wanting to do everything behind closed doors because I..like him for who he is.” He smiled, taking a sip of his shake. “Also..WHEN DID YOU KISS HIM?”

Moose rolled his eyes at Kevin’s initial answer since it wasn’t actually an answer - at least not to the question he had asked. His second answer made his heart drop just a little. He expected nothing else, but hearing it, having Kevin say it out loud was something different entirely. “You don’t have to share me,” he reassured, still holding his gaze. Moose swallowed thickly when Kevin brought up yet another good point, something that had been running through Moose’s head since their first encounter in the woods. Lightly in the wrong didn’t even cut it. Not for him. Not when he felt like shit about it every day because he was hurting two people he cared about so much at the same time. But that was a story for another day. “I’ll break up with her, soon. I promise.” He patiently listened to Kevin’s answer to his question and replied with a simple “okay”, voice dry and emotionless, just signalizing that he understood and accepted that an actual relationship was something the other wanted. But even after that were the words still running through his head and honestly, they didn’t sound too bad. Not bad at all, actually. It sounded exactly like what he wanted, too. “Okay,” he repeated, nodding this time, agreeing that sometime in the future they could or might or were going to be boyfriends. The sudden change of topic made him chuckle just a little, but it sure was more than welcome, offering a nice distraction from the exhausting conversation. A mischievous grin crawled over his features as he leaned down. His mouth moved to Kevin’s neck, trailing tiny kisses up to his ear. “We’d have to be so quiet though,” he whispers, lips gracing the outer shell as he speaks. “You think you can do that, babe?”
This was an entirely new level for Moose, and Kevin of the sorts. This was all a lot easier with Joaquin, and this had Kevin in the moment see that Moose was a person he was willing to wait for. The soft touches helped to relieve some of the tension in his shoulders. This was his version of a sacrifice. Pushing through a situation like this because it was necessary. Because at least to Kevin it mattered. He may not have cared about labels or talking about feelings or giving whatever they had a name, but he cared about him.
Moose furrowed his brows. Why would Kevin be jealous? He had never felt anything for anyone that even came close to what he felt for Kevin - not like he was ready to admit that. It seemed absured to him. But of course, there was no way for the other to know how he was feeling without Moose saying it. He would say it. Eventually.
“Do you want me to break up with her?” He wasn’t as defensive as he usually was when Midge was brought up. His words were lacking bite and his features remained soft. This time, he didn’t take it as an accusation. It was something that bothered Kevin enough to be truly honest about and Moose was finally ready to take that seriously. “Be honest,” he pushed further. He wasn’t making promises. He wasn’t saying he’d do it tomorrow. But he at least had to know if this was something Kevin wanted, maybe even expected.
He pushed himself up a little further, bringing some more distance between them just to refuse himself the easy way out, to just kiss him and pretend like that would solve anything. “You mean like,” he hesitated for a moment, forcing that last word past his lips. That word that he tried so desperately to avoid. That word that would make all of this incredibly real. “Boyfriends?” The word was hanging heavy in the air, too heavy maybe. “That’s what you want, right? A relationship. Something serious?”
Kevin didn’t know what answer would be the best one. “I want you to be happy, Moose.” He didn’t know if Midge was making him happy, but he knew it was only hurting him in other ways. The statement was hard-hitting like Kevin had done earlier, and he knew that lying wasn’t going to get him anywhere. “..Yes..” A tiny part of him felt bad about it, but the other part felt relief that it was finally said. For the longest time he tried convincing himself that he was happy sharing Moose but not even Kevin was that nice. He knew he had Moose in more ways than Midge, but this jealous game was more two way than he realized. “It’s nothing I want you to do just do right now and I don’t expect you to come out if you don’t want to but..you have to also know that we are both lightly in the wrong when you’re dating someone else. And I..hate that I’m saying this but I don’t want to share you, Moose. Not with what I know now.”
Kevin was always the nicer guy who put others before himself but he realized that his passive thinking was only going to delay the inevitable. “Did you know that I deleted all of my hook-up and dating apps? I’ve stopped snapping other guys, texting, cruising in the woods because..I know it hurts you and I can’t do that anymore. I don’t want to make you jealous.” He nodded. “At some point if this keeps up where we spend all this time together, saying we like another, kissing, holding hands, and keep going the great direction we are..yeah, Moose. I..want it to be serious. This is gone further than just friends with benefits.” Kevin wanted to lightly change the mood but keep the serious tone. “And just so you know, you and I talking like this is only making me want to have sex with you and want you in more ways than you can imagine. Moose..I’m not kidding, you are..everything I’m attracted to and you being jealous is nothing you need to worry about because after this conversation is over I’m literally going to rock your world in a way you’ve never seen.”

Once Kevin was on top of him, one of his hands went immediately to his ass, squeezing it through his jeans. The other rested on his back, pressing him closer, their bare torsos pressed against each other, hearts only inches apart. He kissed back hungrily, the warmth of his skin making this so much better -
Until Kevin pulled away. Moose looked up at him with confusion, mouth opening to say something before he was cut off by Kevin and the second it left his mouth, Moose knew that this was going to be bad. He didn’t want to think about it. They didn’t need a label. What they had was good, why could that not be enough? Of course, he expected the dreaded conversation to come up someday. Someday in the future. The far away future. Just not now.
Still, the scenario presented by Kevin was enough to make him bite his tongue, his stomach twisting with a sudden pang of jealousy. Had he already fucked up their relationship? Something they didn’t even really have yet? One way or another, the idea of Kevin with someone else was something he didn’t even want to think of. “Is there? Someone else, I mean?” He tried to go for casual, he really did, but the frown on his face was probably more than enough to show what he was really thinking. Funny enough he wasn’t good at hiding his feelings when it came to Kevin, even if hiding his feelings was the only thing he seemed to be doing lately.
Kevin liked him more than anyone else before. Moose felt his heart rate pick up and was terrified that Kevin would feel it with his hand still on his chest. Still, this feeling was the one thing that pushed him to actually do this, to talk about it, because he couldn’t lose this, couldn’t lose him.
He placed his hand on Kevin’s shoulder, flipping their positions in one swift motion. With one hand on each side of Kevin’s head, he was hovering above him, looking down into green eyes, only now realizing how easy it was to get lost in them. He kept quiet for another moment, teeth digging into his lower lip before he found the courage to say something. “I’m not walking out on you, Kev. I like you. I really do. And that’s fucking scary, but I don’t want to lose you. You’re the only one.”
Kevin knew that his words hit Moose like a break, one that he wasn’t expecting in the moment. One thing Moose Mason was not was stupid, in fact, Kevin knew he was smarter than he let on. He shook his head, as there wasn’t any other person Kevin had been with. Something felt off about attempting to even get with someone else, as Moose popped into his head and Kevin would be greeted with positive thoughts along with anxious feelings. Work was something he wanted to put into both of them, but not if it was going to stay in the same line they’d been in. “There’s no one else. Not by a long shot.” He kissed Moose on the cheek with a smile, flattered by the question and concern. Moose was awful at hiding just how much it bothered him, and his question was answered.
The rise and fall of the left side of his chest was expected, and it still worried Kevin. This conversation would end with the both of them ignoring the question, and no longer did Kevin want that happening. His own heart was mimicking Moose’s, hoping that he was going to be happy he decided to interrupt their intimate session.
With just a quick grab, Moose was on top of Kevin. A position that normally ended with the both of their clothes off was used to showcase whatever Moose was about to drop onto Kevin. This was the moment that would leave Kevin in the bed or getting out of here as fast as possible if it went south. He looked a Moose, waiting for him to speak. The words he heard were repeated in his head, and in the moment, a giant weight lifted off Kevin’s shoulders. This scenario was different, and it left him in deep thought for a moment.
“You don’t understand how long I’ve been waiting for you to say that.” He mumbled, kissing Moose on the top of the head before moving his hands down the other’s back. Kevin felt special, as Moose managed to accomplish something that hasn’t been done since Joaquin and even Moose has managed to go beyond those levels. “If you think I’m going anywhere than you’re crazy. To be honest..I’m jealous too.” He was jealous that Midge was in the picture, and it took him this long to realize it. “I..see you with Midge and it only makes me want have this reassurance that you want me the way I want you. Moose I can’t tell you how much I want what you two have..to be able to..be with you and it’s not even the fact that you’re not out I can deal with that. I finally realized that I’m so jealous that I see you two together and I think that’s why I avoided you for so long. Might as well share the truth.”
He felt selfish for saying that, but it was true. “I want to take this at a good pace but..Moose if we want this to go farther I just need to know that you want what I want. I can do that hidden kissing, the hidden hand holding, the few friends that know and I’ll stop pushing you into the feels zone but..do you think..we..could evolve this at some point? I want to.” Was Kevin implying boyfriends without saying the word at some point because that’s what he felt like was happening.”

Moose really wasn’t used to that much closeness, but he couldn’t say he didn’t enjoy it. Accidental touches whenever he moved a little too much, Kevin watching him as he cooked them a meal. That might just be something he could be able to get used to, wanted to get used to even. “I actually have a lot of hidden talents,” Moose said with a playful wink. It was true though. There was just something about being a jock and constantly struggling to keep his grades high enough to not get kicked off the team that made people forget that there was more to them than muscle. Not Kevin though. Kevin seemed to be that one person in Riverdale who actually expected him to be more than some cardboard cutout stereotype. “But honestly, don’t judge my cooking on my grilled cheese. At least give me a chance to show off before you praise my culinary skill.” When he felt Kevin’s lips against his, the last bit of tension finally melted away. His hands found their place on his hips naturally. “Oh no, believe me. I know.” Moose knew because he felt the exact same. Because from the very second Kevin walked into his house, it was incredibly hard to keep his hands to himself. He leaned right back in again, kissed him a little harder now as he carefully guided him towards the bed. “We have some time before my parents come home,” he said, between kisses, always staying close, lingering, not wanting to lose contact. He tried to sound nonchalant as if there was any way this didn’t sound like a pretty obvious proposition.
Kevin’s hands placed themselves on the back of Moose’s neck, losing himself in the kiss. This felt right, and Kevin knew this wasn’t just some feeling that he passed off as just rush or adrenaline. Both of them were reaching a point where boundaries and secrets were becoming a thing of the past, and it only meant one of few things.
The move toward the bed was happening without Kevin realizing, while his mind raced in a lot of different directions. He spoke with Archie about this exact thing, the two spending their time with one another and avoiding the talk that had to happen. Lips were colliding and his mind was pushing him to bring up the question that has only been greeted with anger and confusion. One of Kevin’s follies was allowing physical and intimate actions to influence his mind, throwing himself at another guy to fix his mistakes. Moose was a person he was willing to take this chance with, possibly risks whatever relationship they had.
His hands managed to fumble with Moose’s shirt, pulling it off as he began unbuttoning his own. Kevin’s mind was telling him to keep his mouth shut, and assume whatever relationship is happening in their mind to keep going without all the complications. He quickly fell on top of Moose, his lips deepening the kiss.
With one impulse action, Kevin backed his head up a few inches as he broke the kiss. “Moose..I’m really sorry to do this right now but I have one question and it’s going to break into a conversation that we’ve been avoiding.”
Kevin looked into Moose’s eyes, placing his hand on the man’s shirtless chest and moving his fingers in circles. “Right now. If I told you that I was with someone else in the same way I’m with you..the same complications and the same situation where we avoid anything remotely outside of hidden meanings and obvious attraction more than just sexual. How would you feel? Please..don’t lie to me because believe me when I say that I want to be with you but..I don’t know how much longer I can go acting like I don’t like you more than I’ve liked anyone before. Moose..I like you enough to want to be able to say that I’m the only one and I don’t mind waiting for you to come out but I really want to know how you feel. No more thinking about you walking out and I don’t want to risks pushing you away when I want to bring this up.” He finally laid it out, risking everything. He felt as if he didn’t breathe when speaking, and once more, Kevin was left not knowing how Moose would react.

Betty felt a jolt of happiness run through each nerve in her body when she heard the voice of none other then Kevin, “Oh my gosh yes please.” She looked over at him twirling in her seat keeping a hand on her shake. She hadn’t seen her friend in what felt like months but was more realistically a week at most. She felt her body tense a little bit though when he mentioned them talking, “I think your food is mildly out of control but I don’t blame you, I’ve been sitting her thinking about more then a few orders of cheese fries. As for us talking, I might need it. Today has gone no where but down.” She swerved her head back towards to her shake before taking a sip of it as she sat eyeing her best friend next to her, “How about share for share? I feel like I’ve been missing a lot in every persons life as of late.” The girl smiled feeling her pony tail whip side to side as she moved.
He was happy to see his best friend, especially right now when their lives were both going in weird directions. They had one another and there were no complicated feelings, no drama surrounding them, and it was the OG friendship that Kevin loved to associate with. “We both know I can eat a lot. Remember when I was a lot bigger than I was now and would just eat all the time. I think I still retain that metabolism.” Puberty hit him in many ways and thankfully it was perfect and was above and beyond what he prayed for years. “Down? Oh no. What’s going on?” Kevin felt out of touch with Betty and wanted that to change. “I got in trouble for sharing this last time but seeing as how I told Archie and you already know about this...Moose and I are..I don’t even know how to describe it but..” Kevin kept his voice down, making sure only Betty could hear him. “Not only have we both admitted feelings for one another but we hang out..a lot and..I told him that I told Archie about him and I and..he freaked out and I kissed him. It was a lot of flirting up until that point along with a date. We are at a weird point because he’s still with Midge and..I think..no..I know..I have strong feelings for Moose. I’ve been to his house, he’s stayed at my place a lot..and..I don’t know Betty this is all new to me.” He laid it on her, smiling as he waited for her reaction. “Is your life just as complicated?”

“Can’t stop, won’t stop.” He replied with a sassy but gleeful smirk across his face. Kevin was the king of sap and sass along with naming every Ru Paul Drag Race episode by heart along with every cast member. Moose’s words managed to hit Kevin in all the right places, sending such a rush down his spine that he could consider it adrenaline. Kevin wished they could just kiss right now but he highly understood why they didn’t want to risk being in a house filled with 8 people. He looked at Moose with unintentionally innocent eyes along with a smile that Moose seemed to replicate.
“I’ll be sure to show you my childhood pictures..actually…wait.” Kevin pulled out his phone to show Moose the chubby kid he used to look like. “I think you win here…” Puberty did Kevin extremely well, and he didn’t know who to thank for that one considering he wasn’t religious so biology had to be the biggest benefactor. “And now we are even.” Kevin chuckled.Willingly showing someone his pictures from when he was younger was different for Kevin, considering he was and still is extremely secure about it.
The kitchen impressed Kevin as his mind hadn’t been able to process just how nice a kitchen could be for an affluent family. “I’m going to guess the dish washer is nice, big, and expensive.” Dinner for 8 people had to be a challenge, and Kevin was thankful that his dinner usually involved him and his father including his mother whenever she wasn’t stationed overseas. “Is that a question?” He moved over to the counter, putting his arms across it and leaning against it. “I’ll gladly eat.”
“You are literally the worst, Keller. You know that?” Giving the other a playful smirk, he didn’t even try to keep a straight face. And his smile only widened when Kevin presented the most adorable baby picture ever. “Wow,” he said with all the charm of a block of wood, sounding almost disbelieving that that chubby kid turned into, well, Kevin Keller. “Puberty hit you like a truck, huh?” Looking from Kevin to the picture and then back at him, he quickly added a genuine, “You were cute though.”
“Yeah. My mother isn’t too big on housework and 8 people use a lot of dishes.” The fact that most of the dishes around the house were used by him and his brother in middle school was a fact he decided to gloss over. Before Kevin even had a chance to reply, Moose already delved into the fridge, giving the other a half-surprised look over his shoulder at his question. “No,” he admitted with a chuckle. “Grilled cheese sound okay?”
Another not-question, since Moose had already grabbed all the ingredients and kicked the fridge door shut. He was still a little tense as he fixed the two of them some food, but the prospect of getting something to eat definitely calmed him down a little. Placing the grilled cheese sandwiches on two plates, he turned around, looking quite happy with himself. “We could eat upstairs?” Why did everything he said today sound like a question?
:
“Something tells me you enjoy it.” Kevin nudged at Moose’s side, knowing that their dynamic was one the both of them enjoyed. Most people were surprised at what Kevin looked like only a few years ago, and he was lucky that puberty gifted him with no acne, a great face, and an athletic build. “You sure you’re looking at this picture?” He acted as if he was looking at it again as if Moose was mistaken the first time. It was a time in his life when he was very insecure, a lot more than he was today. Kevin lowered his voice. “Keep this up and you’re only going to make it harder to..you know..” He acted aloof to his own words. “Guess we’ll both have to find that one out.”
“I don’t blame her. Dishes for just my father and I feels like hell. Can’t imagine 8 people.” Kevin loved grilled cheese and he lit up when it was mentioned. “You kidding me? I loved grilled cheese. It’s the best thing to make a bunch of.” Though he knew Moose didn’t want his family seeing them he made sure to pass off him scooting close to Moose as watching over him. Kevin leaned closer to Moose as he prepared for the food, giving him innocent to naughty glares as he watched. He smiled as the food was placed on him, being content. “Looks good. I’m impressed in the best way, mostly because I know you possess some hidden talents.”
Kevin let Moose lead the way, smiling as they walked upstairs. This place only got more amazing, and the upstairs managed to surprise him. He knew exactly what room was Moose’s and walked inside, once the both of their food was down and the door was closed - Kevin without warning pressed his lips against the other’s. He let it continue before breaking away for air. “You don’t know how long I was waiting to do that..”

Betty felt her patience dwindling as she waited patiently at Pop’s hoping her dad would actually show up to talk about recent events. As each minute passed she felt less and less hopeful. Finally she ordered a strawberry shake to aside the feeling of regret and sadness thanks to her own father not showing up. She knew it was a long shot since he seemed less then willing over texts. She twirled her finger around her ponytail as she waited for her shake. Finally when he brought it the girl couldn’t resists grabbing the berry off the side and biting into it feeling mildly less annoyed and a little more happy. As she sat in the bar stool she slowly twirled her chair back and fourth feeling like a kid again. She leaned forward taking a sip as she kept swiveling in her chair before she saw a figure out of her eye come into sight, “You can sit there if you want..” as she gestured next to the stool next to her own, “I promise it’s more then free.” She smiled softly before glancing over.
Kevin had been spending time with Moose, keeping his mouth closed to everyone - even his best friend Betty. He didn’t expect her to be at Pop’s but she was happy he had. There was also the camping event that he knew was not just a joke as he’d been one of the first to get the text messages. Secrets could be Kevin’s middle name at this point - being so intertwined no matter how many he tried getting rid of. “You do realize I wouldn’t want to sit any where else.” He chuckled, moving his hand to the counter to wave down Pop’s. “I’ll have two cheese burgers, large fries, a large milkshake and...two hot dogs.” Kevin was known for eating just as much as Jughead on occasions. “Want to have girl to gay talk right now?”

Alice sat in a booth at Pop’s, laptop open but untouched. There was an article that needed writing. The Ghoulie that had threatened the camping trip was about to find himself dragged to hell and back on the front page of the Register. He was legally an adult so she could print his name and booking photo. His shouted confession of being forced to do it wouldn’t be making it into print. Yet. She was saving that for an expose on Keller and if he’d really gotten the right man during the whole Black Hood mess. For now she was laying all the blame on a drug addled idiot. Of which there seemed to be plenty of these days. A couple of teens loitering in the parking lot caught her attention. Whipping her phone out Alice documented what she was sure was a drug deal. “This is what happens when hooligans run wild. First it’s drug deals in the parking lot, next it’ll be a whore house in the bathroom,” she spoke out loud but not to anyone in particular. A loud, judging tsk accompanied her words.
Kevin was a frequent visitor of Pop’s. Like most gays and hipsters in the north there was some odd feeling of pleasure when you got work done in some kind of place that serves food and coffee. The atmosphere in Pop’s was one that many people found comfort in along with lightning that would make any cinematographic project a masterpiece. His mac book air was one of his most prized possession and rather than getting any productive work done Kevin was searching for new dice for his Dungeons and Dragons project. Kevin saw the people around his age outside and hadn’t paid much attention to it until he spotted Mrs. Cooper filming whatever had been going on. He quickly sighed, walking outside to spot what had been going on. Rather than bring attention to the situation he would just play it casually. “Mrs. Cooper?” Kevin smiled, lips retracting into his mouth and he acted as if he had no idea what she was doing or what had been going on.“It’s been a while, right?”

“You really have to stop being so sappy,” Moose said, shaking his head at Kevin’s words as he smiled. Still, he stopped in his tracks and pulled the other a little closer, close enough to whisper in his ear. “Makes it really hard to not kiss you.” For half a second, he considered it to just lean in a little more and steal one single sweet kiss, but then decided it was too risky, returning to showing Kevin around as if nothing happened.
Bringing friends home was awkward enough considering that half the house was decorated with baby pictures and sports trophies, but bringing Kevin home was a whole new level of awkward. “You are having entirely too much fun with this, Keller.” He went for a smirk to try to hide that he was the tiniest bit uncomfortable, not quite sure if it worked.
When the tour led them through the kitchen, he couldn’t help but wistfully glance at the fridge. “You hungry?” It was less than a question than an offer and less of a I could make us some dinner if you want than a I’m kinda starving so please say yes.
“I’ll be sure to show you my childhood pictures..actually...wait.” Kevin pulled out his phone to show Moose the chubby kid he used to look like. “I think you win here...” Puberty did Kevin extremely well, and he didn’t know who to thank for that one considering he wasn’t religious so biology had to be the biggest benefactor.

“i’m so sorry kev.” josie put a hand on his shoulder. despite what she had said to him earlier about apologizing, she still felt like she had to. she had no idea how she was going to tell her father or if telling him was even an option. they barely ever saw each other. and when they did it was a constant battle fighting for his approval rather than spending quality father and daughter time together. how could she look him in the eye and tell him this? and say she did tell him, she’d have her mother to deal with after that. it was like either option, josie lost. she felt as though she would be betraying one of them no matter what she decided to do. josie shrugged and placed her hands in her lap. “was there ever a time when this town wasn’t? because if there was, i honestly don’t remember.”
it wasn’t okay. he wasn’t going to lie and say that but it felt good but messed up that he could relate to josie on this matter. her relationship with her father was a little more strained than kevin’s would ever be and found himself feeling bad about the way he’d been acting. the two of them were in a predicament where the right thing would only do more damage. he wanted to confront his dad about it but that was going to be a rough conversation. riverdale seemed to be this town where lies were so big enough that the truth would only make matters worse. “i’d like to think that people were better about keeping the truth to themselves..” he stood up against josie’s dresser to keep himself from just sitting. “let’s just agree that we tell our parents within the same time frame. so it’s not..awkward and they can’t be prepared.”

“Honestly? I didn’t think I’d have to mention it,” Moose admitted, rubbing the back of his neck at the undeserved compliment. “I mean, have you seen the car I drive?”, he added with a soft smirk and a shrug as if estimating how much money a family made by simply looking at their child’s car was something real people actually did.
“There’s more to it than good genes, you know.” He meant the sports, obviously, not the looks. His looks were a gift. His athletic accomplishments were something he worked hard for. “A tour it is then. If you can promise me that you’re not going to have a heart attack. It’s still just a house, Kev.” A nice house, maybe. But still. Wrapping his hand around Kevin’s wrist, he gave a light tug, literally pulling him away from the photos on the wall.
“You know, I’ve honestly never thought into it.” Kevin said, slightly embarrassed he didn’t put two and two together when it was something he was normally best at. He chuckled at his own ignorance but wasn’t one to really pay much attention to wealth in people as it was never something he judged someone on unless they were a celebrity. “Keep up the surprises though - i like it.” The boy was usually an impatient one, but the right people or person could always make him wait.
“Moose, I mean this as a compliment, there’s more to you and...i’m glad you’re letting me see it.” Random moments of true thoughts were Kevin’s specialty, as the actual talk of feelings was something he never knew how to do at the *right* time. “Can we compromise here? I at least deserve one shock attack.” This place was nicer than what Kevin was used to, and he’d been in some nice houses. His eyes were glued to the photos only to be pulled away by Moose who seemed very eager to show Kevin the rest of his house, and the added touch made it better.
As they walked, Kevin was amazed at the decorations and overall set-up of the house. He didn’t complain about the added touching on his wrist, and he actually non verbally welcomed it. “Come on. You really were going to pull me away from those adorable pics of you when you were younger.” Kevin winked at him, looking around while the tour was going.
