Si entre nosotros ya había una distancia, esa misma se convirtió en un abismo, era aún más imposible que estuviéramos juntos, entonces deje de creer y suponer para saber y reconocer que nunca hubo ni habrá un nosotros.....

Even more Persian cheetah news:
January 2022: One of “the rarest cats in the world,” the Persian cheetah is near extinction. This species, Acinonyx jubatus venaticus, also known as the “Asiatic cheetah,” is the only cheetah to survive in the wild in all of the Eurasian continent. In January 2022, the national deputy environment minister of Iran announces that there are only 12 remaining wild Persian cheetahs. However, responding directly to this announcement, the Iranian Cheetah Society, in a press release also from January 2022, clarifies that this statistic provides “the minimum adult population identified” and does not count 3 captive cheetahs, 4 newborn cubs recorded in 2021, 3 other cubs separated from their mother in 2021, or wild cheetahs observed in North Khorasan. Altogether, it is estimated that less than 50 remain alive.
April/May 2022: It is announced that three cubs have been born in captivity at Turan Wildlife Refuge in Iran. Never before has this happened. This the first time that Persian cheetahs have successfully given birth in captivity.
August 2022: By this time, 2 of the 3 cubs have died. Of the trio, Pirouz is the only remaining cub.
December 2022: Two more Persian cheetah cubs are discovered.
They are reported to be less than one month old. In this announcement, environmental managers say that, at Turan, cheetah birth usually occurs in spring, to allow cub growth over the summer. However, in this case, the cheetahs have been born late in autumn, putting them in danger due to cold weather conditions.
The news was publicly announced on 3 December 2022. And also I guess it’s appropriate:

Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. Nobody gives a shit about the animals that “don’t affect” us and it seriously breaks my heart

_I'm proud of this artwork. Despite the low quality of my reference picture, I was able to interpret shapes and details. The rarity of photographs of this majestic animal declared extinct in the mid-90s, I think makes this illustration all the more significant in preserving its memory. Javan Tiger This tiger was considered a plague. I think that says all. The characterization of the Javan Tiger as a plague is a sobering reminder of the destructive consequences of human activity on wildlife. I really wish we have changed so we don't see cases like this one in the future. _____________________________________________ Credits: Javan Tiger _____________________________________________ Thank you for your support. [ The body of a deceased European turtle dove, photographed by Antoine Monnier. ]
“A dead turtle dove was left on the steps of Castille by Birdlife following a news conference the organisation held prior to an expected court decision on the hunting of turtle doves on Friday.
Addressing the media, members of the organisation said the current spring hunting season on the common quail, which has been open since Monday, has already resulted in a significant number of European turtle-doves being killed illegally. A decision on whether turtle-doves may be hunted legally in Malta is expected on Friday.
Birdlife had filed a warrant of prohibitory injunction last week which was provisionally upheld by the court.
It is arguing that the decision allowing turtle-doves to be hunted between April 17 and 30 is based on false data disregarding the periled conservation status of the species.
A court presided by Mr Justice Giovanni Grixti shall be hearing the case on Friday.
The recommendation to open a hunting season on turtle-dove was taken at an Ornis Committee meeting on March 29 on the basis of a report tabled by the Wild Birds Regulation Unit (WBRU).
This stated that Malta’s reference population on turtle-doves has increased between 10-12%, with the committee agreeing to a quota of 1,500 birds to be killed over a two-week period.
BirdLife Malta is contesting the science behind “such flawed calculations” especially given the fact that top experts and scientific institutions regard the European turtle-dove as continuously declining, with their populations being at the lowest since 2003.
Birdlife said that the most up-to-date data on declining turtle-dove populations was recently tabled during a meeting of the EU’s task force on the recovery of birds, for which officials from the Ministry for Gozo’s WBRU also attended.
During the meeting experts recommended a Europe-wide suspension on the hunting of turtle-doves to mitigate the continued loss of the species, and even singled out Malta, Birdlife said.
Addressing journalists in front of Castille on Thursday, Birdlife president Darryl Grima said Birdlife is seeking justice “on this travesty of a season which risks damaging a declining species”.”
