“You uh… you got permission from Nowi right?” Not that he was uncertain that Nowi would freely give permission. If anything, he was sure Nowi simply gave the poor scientist some scales meant for something entirely different, and Miriel went off on her own with it.

“I don’t suppose there’s anything I could help with while I’m here. My knowledge of the arcane, both in its creation as a tool, and as an application of force, is not quite equal to your knowledge of the sciences, but perhaps I could offer some assistance anyways.”

    “Naturally.” If she was offended by the idea that she might not have done so, it doesn’t show upon her face. “She was...quite generous as well.” Miriel had to admit she was somewhat repulsed by the knowledge that the manakete made it a habit to keep such things around for so long, but it had its uses.

    “Actually, your knowledge of the arcane arts may be of service. While I attended the academy in Ylisstol, I will admit that my knowledge of the arcane is, at times, insufficient.”

     “Perhaps I ought to study what measurable benefits moments of respite offer,” she muses, well-aware that it would defeat the purpose of accepting his offer. “An inquiry for another time. Did you have a destination in mind, or are we to merely wander the area around camp?”

    Ah, yes. There is a certain degree of contentment that arises with the task of organization....particularly so when she manages to find a few items to dispose of in the end.

   “There is no need to undertake such efforts for me alone.” She supposes she’s gratified that he would offer such a thing, but she’s content with the prospect of eggs and toast alone. 

    “As for my experiment, I am attempting to determine the efficacy of manakete scales in various magical endeavors--surprisingly little has been written on the subject.”

mini hiatus

so basically i’m just really tired for a variety of reasons and i just don’t have the energy to keep up with rp atm. i’ll probably lurk, because y’all are great, but for the most part if you wanna chat with me you’re gonna have to hmu on skype or discord.

re: miriel being agender

rather than her conceptualizing herself as not having a gender or being genderless or genderneutral, it’s more that her conceptualization of herself doesn’t include gender (i.e. she conceptualizes herself as a person). gender as a label doesn’t really have a personal meaning to her, especially if other people are the ones labeling her as such--it’s part of why she uses she/her pronouns. she’s only uncomfortable with being forced to conceptualize herself as a woman.

for example, she was very displeased with the explanation of menstruation as being about her becoming a woman, but if someone referred to her as ‘the lady with the glasses’ or something like that, she doesn’t really care.

Speaking of Miriel’s face blindness, she recognizes most of the Shepherds by context and other traits/mannerisms.

If she randomly ran into a Shepherd while they were both off duty (and they were wearing something she wasn’t expecting) she probably would have no fucking clue who they are.

Raising the finger up, he only furthered his thoughts on the matter. “Wouldn’t it be more possible to simply delay the course of atrophy to an almost indefinite state, just not quite? The world wouldn’t realize it was being changed in that regard, and may not find some new way to correct itself.”

    “Perhaps. Given that the process remains an unknown, it is difficult to say whether the final product will be worth the cost. Currently, I am experimenting with various protective measures--forging an entirely new weapon is, alas, outside of my realm of expertise.” He does make a solid argument, after all, and it isn’t as if she never considered the consequences of her experiments. “We must first establish whether such a feat is possible. Only then can we properly analyze whether it is viable.”

    “Selfish or not, there is no harm in hearing you out. What is it, Laurent?” It’s strange, to hear him speak of her Laurent, as if he were not also hers in an admittedly unorthodox manner. “Forgive me, I fail to comprehend why being the eldest of the children would lead to distress. However, I believe it safe to assume you speak from experience, and it would certainly be remiss of me to ignore anecdotal evidence.” Still, eight years truly was a long time--though perhaps unreasonable, given the war they found themselves in. 

    “Very well. I shall speak to Henry upon the matter, but I see little reason why we could not wait to attempt to bring our endeavors to fruition. War is hardly an ideal environment in which to raise a child, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.”

laurent’s presence had made figuring out how to duplicate the process extremely easy- sometimes he wondered if his parents were disappointed by the lack of a challenge their task had become. but if they were to create their laurent right now…he would be older than lucina by two years, and laurent didn’t want this version of himself to be stuck in the lonely role of eldest yet again.

❝ if you can, would you wait until lucina- the one of this time period- is eight years old? i know that’s a long time, but…❞
