The game and I differ a little here. Garrick finds Jowan in the cells and intends to have him be free and run, but Jowan comes back anyway and offers to help with the ritual. After Connor is saved, Teagan imprisons Jowan. When Eamon is cured, Garrick steps in again and does not let him be taken back to the Circle. From that point on, Jowan remains at Garrick's side and when the Blight is defeated, the two of them go looking for Lily.

worldstate: legacies

so i'm working on a bit of a fic project that may or may never see much of the light of day, based around a very particular worldstate i've been noodling away at for at least a decade. it involves a lot of family drama.

the main players are

wardens: doloris mahariel & marthe caron

doloris never wanted to be a grey warden. she never wanted anything, but to live and work and die for her clan, to raise her children and teach them the stories of the dalish. she is devastated when tamlen dies,` blaming herself for surviving when he did not. for her, being a - the warden - warden is an atonement for her mistakes. and later, when a young prince she did not love sacrifices himself for her too, she knows she was mistaken in that too. she disappears to the lands queen anora grants the dalish as soon as the blight is defeated. there is nothing else for her.

marthe meanwhile, was recruited a warden after her early military career. the third daughter of a noble house, she enjoyed a freedom in her life plan that her eldest siblings did not, and used it to join the military. head full of the stories of the wardens, she did not hesitate to join when they came recruiting. marthe enjoyed a long career with the wardens, though when she fell pregnant with her daughter, she was encouraged into a desk position she did not enjoy, though she would take to it as diligently as everything else she had ever done. working her way up the ranks, she succeeded in lobbying to be sent to ferelden after the blight as its new warden-commander. she took her daughter, now a teenager, with her.

hawke: briar hawke & inquisitor: bethany hawke

briar hawke, frank and honest. she takes her position as the protector of the hawke family incredibly seriously, and carries the weight of carver's death around her neck like a stone, though perhaps she will never admit it, even to herself. briar likes to think herself an immovable rock, though even the hardest rock may be cracked beneath the myriad pressures acting upon it. she capitulated to leandra in not letting bethany join her in the deep roads, and if she tries not to sit in regret, she oftens wonders what their lives would have been like, if bethany had remained, as she did, free.

bethany hawke took to circle life well, if only because she had to. she has long known how to make herself small, unobtrusive and helpful enough that she can slip about beneath notice. she has never blamed her sister for her fate, though she has thought about their differences often. after kirkwall fell, bethany initially fled with her sister, helping her through her griefs, but they would part again when bethany worked her way into the divine conclave. she felt too involved to stay away. she could never have known that this act would thrust her into the spotlight. the herald of andraste, after all, cannot make herself small.

rook: tamlen aldwir

tamlen was born as the fifth blight ended. his whole life, he has known he bore the name of someone his clan hahren loved. she might have never said it, but he catches the sadness in her eyes when she looks at him sometimes. still, despite the fact he has no wish to trouble her, he cannot help but be fascinated by the legends and stories she tells, and when it comes time that she must leave again, in a reluctant quest to join the inquisition, she finds a small boy sneaking after her at her heels, determined to be part of the adventure this time round. no amount of persuasion will convince tamlen to stay with the clan. it is in the walls of skyhold that tamlen discovers his life's passion: life.

the veil jumpers were, without making a pun of it, an easy leap from there.
