one of my favorite things abt thoschei is how fundamentally different yet similar they are. theyre equals in a lot of ways and understand each other in a way nobody else can measure up to. at the same time, the master will never understand the doctors attachment & interest in humanity. to an immortal (the master) theyre small, useless and barely live a life worthwhile. the doctor loves humans so much cuz of those things. i could go on but they are just so different when it comes to that, its so fascinating

There’s a lot of excellent examples of the difference between a million and a billion, but here’s my new personal favorite from a conversation I had today:

A million minutes ago was April 2021, the height of the COVID pandemic.

A billion minutes ago was November 121 CE, the height of the Roman Empire.

a beautiful thing ive noticed about the DT fandom versus other fandoms ive been a part of (which is like...3 others, so dont take my words to heart lol), is that when other fandoms have favorite characters, their reactions are usually along the lines of "oh, I'd trust them with my LIFE, they deserve the world and more, my precious sunflower, they have done no wrong and will do no wrong ever!!"

whereas when youre introduced to a new DT character, at least from what ive seen, the intro to said character is something like: "this is (DT character's name). they are a menace to society and have the energy of a limp, wet, dirty washcloth that you've kicked to the curb on a rainy day. if my life were in their hands, id beg god to just end my suffering now. I bully them exactly 35 times a day, and it just keeps getting funnier the more I do it."

Alec Hardy is the Most Realistic

portrayal of unacknowledged autism spectrum disorder in media I have ever seen. To be fair I don't go hunting them out so it was a delight to see.

Hardy:

struggles with social cues,

feels deeply (cries, shows compassion)

But not always when expected

appears to follow scripts and learned behaviours ("Do you want a hug?")

doesn't know unwritten social rules (the date, miller bringing food)

Genuinely tries but does not have a grasp of correct social conduct (is convinced by Miller telling him having the boss over is "something you do" by doing it)

points out obvious lies "I was in the area", "up a hill? At 3am?"

Has few friends

Focuses on his job

Follows Miller's lead in social situations

Shows zero damage to his sense of masculinity when Miller drives - in so many shows there'd at least have been a joke about it

Would lay down his life for Miller. Still isn't going to the pub.

I empathise with my man so bad. 10/10 comfort character, no comments. 100%

Look I get not liking age gap relationships. I personally started my fandom journey with an age gap relationship so they don’t really bother me, but I understand not liking them.

However, when talking about Doctor Who, I fear we have bigger problems. I’ve seen fans of DW complain about the age gaps and I just feel there are other things we can talk about. It just feels so trivial to complain about an age gap relationship in a show about a time traveling alien who can cheat death.

Not to mention that post classic who, the doctor wiped out his whole species and the only ones left who are of his age are the master and the rani (at various points in time); two time lords that are, for the most part, evil. So what the fuck is the doctor supposed to do?!

All this to say: I don’t want to hear about the doctors age gaps with their various love interests. I just don’t care

truly nobody is doing it like donna noble. she tracked down the doctor herself so she could travel with him and proceeded to get in a massive fight with him that fundamentally changed both their worldviews on their first time time-travelling together. she’s the fastest typer in chiswick. she kept the doctor so in line that within like two episodes of her being gone he decided he was god-king of the universe. she kissed him and absolutely hated it. she’s unemployed. she demanded a salute and she got one and she DESERVED IT. she has her gay best friend from like twenty years ago living in a shed in her backyard and her husband is cool with this. i love her so so so much

It's so funny if you really think about it, the Master and Rassilon are both evil Time Lords that do nothing good to the universe. Yet 10's reaction to Rassilon's return is "FUCKING GO TO HELL" while he spoils the Master to the end of world.
