|| mini-headcanons. ||

when sokka first lost his mother, he had nightmares about it. either katara would have the same dream or awaken knowing that sokka was sad and scared. they used to huddle together, holding hands. gran-gran would find them always together. it made her both happy and sad. happy that they had each other but sad because she knew what was on their little minds.

the moment they lost their mother, sokka took his training even more seriously to try to protect the rest of his family. katara was the only one that seemed to noticed when he injured himself.

Sokka, in beard disguise: I am Mr. Sokka's lawyer, Wang Fire. My client pleads insanity.

“You two are making me blush! I guess I am a hero!”

Sokka is trying hard not to laugh. Instead he places his hand carefully on his shoulder. “Hey, know that I didn’t set all this up to make you look like a fool.” Then he swallowed a laugh that was trying to form. He points with his other hand to the statue. “Everything that Private Fire did was everything I did but I couldn’t just come clean. So I figured faking my death would be better. You did a good job and no one else needs to know. In fact it might be better that Wang Fire went out as a hero, rather some kid from the southern water tribe without magical powers. Don’t beat yourself up too much.” Sokka assures him, he clears his throat grinning now.

“Only Aang, Kaatra, Thoph and Suki knows about my alter ego.” That happened over five years ago and completely forgot about it. His mouth only slightly falters at the mention of Suki. He was clearly avoiding Zuko’s eye now. “I gotta say, I look pretty good as a statue.”

“I wasn’t trying to make you look powerful,” he mutters, eyes fixed somewhere over Sokka’s shoulder. “I was trying to honor what I thought was a real hero.”

He forces himself to look at Sokka, the flush of embarrassment darkening his cheeks. “And you made me look like an idiot.”
