Akshay Kumar's character in the film is inspired by the team's assistant manager Tapan Das, who has confronted the team's chief manager, A.C. Chatterjee, that India has achieved this golden breakthrough.A.C. Chatterjee was the man whose stubbornness led the Indian hockey team to the Olympics. The special thing was that many players from the Indian team played barefoot due to slippery grass in the final match.  The 1948 London Olympics Games were very special for India. For the first time, India was participating in these games as a free country. During this time, everyone's eyes were the Indian hockey team.

Hockey was such a game that had already given India gold. But this time it was not that easy. India was partitioned in 1947. Many such players went to Pakistan. At the same time, Major Dhyanchand had also retired. In such a situation, the Olympic Committee proposed to India-Pak to send a joint team. But, both the countries rejected this proposal.

But finally after 12 years of Journey the Indian team all set to go to the Olympics in 1948. Kishan Lal got the captaincy of this team Kishan played on behalf of the railway. At the same time, the team's vice-captain was KD Singh Babu. It was an experienced player like Balbir Singh. But the most important role was that of manager A.C. Chatterjee. Chatterjee insisted on taking the team to London. They assured that these teams would bring gold. India's first match in the Olympic Games was with Austria. India won the match with a big margin of 8-0. In the match, Balbir Singh scored 6 goals alone.
