final room tour, showing the space which became the most important part for both projects. I really wish I could have had the chance to exhibit it together in its own space.

“ Along with the Coronavirus pandemic, another crisis has manifested itself in the form of mass fear and panic phenomena, fueled by incomplete and often inaccurate information. “
I had this hypothesis and after only a few moments of searching came across large amounts of studies such as this one that proved it correct. What we are we letting in, how do we learn to negotiate and how do we educate everyone else, should that even be a consideration is free will not also the right to be willfully ignorant.

I’m not quite sure how long it ended up being but it was a lot, I’m glad I did my test pieces first, I knew that mono printing wouldn’t really work and that linocuts would be the most consistent way to print a large amount. Bleaching and wax was too inconsistent across fabric types. It was important that there be many different types of material that the layout change but the words all be the same but crisp clear and repetitive

Managed to find an online website to adjust some footage, hue brightness contrast, adding a vignette. I couldn’t crop the footage or really go too crazy with the editing it was very basic but as good a workaround as I can find not having access to downloadable software. This really shows all the three elements that I had wanted to combine, in my ideological apparatus, the screen with the screen marks, the reflection (of sky news) and the roll which I readjusted the wire length to fit with the screen. I also managed to colour match some paint for the supports not pictured but important to the overall aethstetic.
No matter what substrate the message is all the same, we are the subjects, there is no total truth and there is no escape to survive we perpetuate, to survive in art is to throw one’s life down the toilet according to our rulers to resolve the conflict in our own selves we must negotiate a world designed for our continued consumption to learn to switch off, to evaluate.

Taking pictures of the various reflections of news programs, and the new year broadcast for 2020, really thtinking about my year how crap its been, and for everyone else too, seeing bloody boris’s face plastered all over the telly telling us all to stay at home, telling us to retrain while all of the MP’s go out attending parties and ignoring all the rules. Running the media keeping us distracted all the while undermining us

“While many critics see the internet as a new, more democratic mode of communication, others see it as a form through which corporations are taking control of public dialog and global markets,”
page 334 from practices of looking by Marita Sturken and Lisa Cartwright from a chapter called the flow of visual culture this book has been invaluable during my research.
Next is the glossary entry for Negotiated Reading, which is essentially what I have been communicating or trying to in my work with the newspaper but without having the words to explain it.
“Consider[ing] newspapers to be more reliable than television news, for instance, or seeing news on internet or World Wide Web sources as less truthful than other sources.” - I was conscious of this rank in media types, Which I’ve tried to show all three in my project and to say they are all the same.
“According to the Frankfurt School theorists, the culture industry is an entity that both creates and caters to a mass public that tragically, can no longer see the difference between the real world and the illusory world that these popular media forms collectively generate...a contrast between mass entertainment and fine art. In this distinction of high and low culture, they criticise the culture industry for generating images that are nothing more than style and propaganda for industrial capitalism,” - So if media is low culture and fine art is high culture is art based on media also low culture? This is obviously a very negative view, there is media which could be considered art, I’m trying to say it’s just very far and few between the majority is the same stories churned out again and again in an endless cycle.
Additionally
“In the Frankfurt School view, the pull of ideology is so strong that even those whose interests are not directly served by the ruling classes will help to reproduce it by mindlessly working for its benefit.” - this of course is in relation to the other sources I have posted which reference the reinforcement of the subject as the subject by himself through ideology perpetrated through the ruling classes using ideological state apparatus like the media. All the stories distract us from how slow progress takes, feel good buffer pieces distract us from how bad a state things really are and targeted pieces to direct the anger anywhere but where it should be, to the lower classes, to immigration, terrorism and so on.
I’ve thoroughly thumbed through this book highlighting passages I thought to be relating to what I was working on, quite surprising rather a lot of it related in some way, I’ve attempted to curate those here into what is the key concepts that have repeated themselves over and over but in a concise manner, I feel like everything is coming together which means that the conclusion is in sight I’ve finally figured out what I was trying to say months ago when I first began but didn’t have knowledge to convey only the idea.

cyanotypes, developed mainly from using tracing paper, first of the prints of my linocut on tracing paper, and then of lines of text some of which appears to have not stayed in focus, this was not intentional as i secured it into a frame however it does remind me of how unfocused it was in the light experiment too, these are not something I really know how to develop further since I already have quite a lot of different threads going on but it does feel like a way to tie things together.

risograph of a monoprint, I like risographs because of the texture they can pick up, I brought this back to the college to print on it again but unfortunately it got a little ruined in the rain that day and couldn't be put back through the printer so I will have to come up with another way to utilise it

my sculpture piece wuld not stand on its own, I had cut these smaller blue pieces as supports but used the same angle to saw two other supports at the very base. A rookie mistake really but it is my first sculpture if it went entirely according to plan that would mean I hadn’t tried hard enough with the concept! I was wary of having to saw twice so I folded sandpaper to make sure my measurements were correct and used it as a stencil it worked very well, it’s only a shame I have no more blue spray paint.

I cut all my pieces of fabric to size its slightly larger in size than a roll of toilet roll but at this point the wood has already been cut for te sculpture so it all has to fit together and it has to be that wide for “ Mind Game” Lino cut to fit on it comfortably. Next I sewed all the pieces together by hand. Teo sections were made of the jean fabric one of the green and one of a tulle like polyester netting. The grey curtain fabric comprises every other section including first and last. The first I began spray painting with the same colours I had used on the sculpture but didn’t have enough pink. My thinking behind the different textiles is no matter what the medium the message is all the same. I’m going to use the same prints on all of them

cut some scrap curtain fabric i had, it is very thick and doesn’t bleach on either side making me feel like it will hold up to ink well, i wrapped it around the centre of a roll of tinfoil that I had shortened slightly with my saw. I like the grey, the softness but I will need to collect some other pieces of fabric but this shall be the main as it holds prints better than any other the smooth side is like a slightly spongy paper.

Briefly considered making my canvas out of the same deck stencilled fabric that my very first piece for this class was made from, sewn to a a canvas, ultimately though I knew I wanted it in blue so it wouldn’t have show up as well and the texture would be lost anyway so I left it as it’s own piece

This canvas, contains a print of all the lino cuts that I used in my roll of fabric in my final sculpture. I wanted a way to showcase them all without having to unroll the fabric but that is of course the whole point of it to unroll it to see that it is in fact all the same no matter the material. It’s a textured canvas, printed in a pale social media blue though as its bigger than my scanner can manage I had to use the photo scan option and its quite washed out looking. I wish I could get access to a better scanner I feel like not being able to present my work in a professional high quality way is holding me back and making me unmotivated.
