What No One Told You About How Your Brain Works
This explains your anxiety, overthinking, and why you shut down—even when things seem “fine.” 🤍 I did some research and created this list.
1. Your Brain Doesn't Want You Happy—It Wants You Alive
• Survival > Satisfaction. Evolution didn't design your brain to feel good. It designed it to detect threats, anticipate pain, and avoid risk.
• You could have everything you want—and still feel anxious, paranoid, or unfulfilled-because your brain is hardwired to assume something could go wrong.
The brain is a threat-forecasting engine, not a peace-finding machine.
2. Negative Thoughts Are Your Default
• Your brain has a negativity bias-you remember one bad comment over ten compliments.
• This kept your ancestors alive (better to remember the snake than the sunny day).
• Even your default mode network (what your brain does when "resting") often spirals into rumination and worry.
If you feel like your mind runs worst-case scenarios constantly—it is. That's the design.
3. Pleasure Chemicals Are Rationed
• Dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin-they're powerful, but your brain doesn't hand them out freely.
• Why? If you feel too good, you might let your guard down.
• The reward system is designed to motivate survival behavior, not sustained joy.
That's why achievement highs fade fast-your brain resets to baseline so you stay chasing survival advantages.
4. Fear Is More Influential Than Logic
• Your amygdala can override your rational brain in milliseconds.
• That means you'll react emotionally before you even realize what's happening.
• Panic, rage, or freeze responses often bypass conscious thought entirely.
Your brain doesn't care if it makes sense. It only cares if it keeps you breathing.
5. Stress = Useful (Until It Kills You)
• Short-term stress sharpens attention, boosts performance, and mobilizes energy.
• But chronic stress? It shrinks your brain, weakens your immune system, ages you faster, and worsens memory.
Your body wasn't made to be in long-term “survival mode"-and it will break down if forced to stay there.
6. Your Brain Hates Uncertainty
• Ambiguity triggers the same systems as physical danger.
• That's why people fear change, cling to routines, or choose the familiar even when it's bad.
Your brain would rather be miserable in certainty than happy in chaos.
7. Trauma Hijacks the Operating System
• When trauma hits, your brain re-prioritizes survival patterns over growth.
• It rewires itself to expect danger, avoid vulnerability, and react with defense-even in safe settings.
• Joy, connection, and creativity? Those get suppressed until safety is reestablished.
Trauma isn't just an emotional scar-it's a functional rewrite of your brain's logic.
8. Your Mind Treats Repetition as Truth
• Say a lie enough times? Your brain believes it.
• Hear self-criticism daily? Your brain encodes it as identity.
• This helped ancient humans identify patterns and rules, but it also makes your brain vulnerable to false beliefs and toxic self-talk.
9. The Brain Values Control Over Freedom
• Certainty = safety.
• Your brain constantly tries to predict, label, and organize everything to feel in control.
• That's why the unknown is terrifying-even if it holds opportunity.
Your brain would rather stick with a bad habit than face the emotional uncertainty of change.
10. Most of Your Decisions Are Unconscious
• By the time you "decide," your brain has already made the choice milliseconds before-you're just rationalizing it.
• 95% of brain activity is subconscious.
• Free will exists, but it's swimming in a sea of automatic processes.
These 10 truths about the brain literally changed the way I see myself.
I didn’t realize how much my brain was trying to protect me… until I learned how it actually works.
If you’ve ever felt numb, anxious, unmotivated, or like you’re failing even when you’re “doing everything right”… this is for you.
You’re not broken. You’re wired for survival.
And once I learned why I felt the way I did, I stopped blaming myself—and started rebuilding.
Knowing these facts about the brain shifts the narrative of “something’s wrong with me” to “this is my system working as it’s designed.”
You will start to see yourself as a system.
You are not your patterns. You are the operator of the system that runs those patterns.
And systems can be optimized.

I'd just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker's marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.
Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.
He only took occasional sips of water.
The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.
Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.
Senator Booker's speech did reach many people. It wasn't a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.
Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes to "make good trouble."

Like many of the virus’s hardest hit victims, the United States went into the COVID-19 pandemic wracked by preexisting conditions. A fraying public health infrastructure, inadequate medical supplies, an employer-based health insurance system perversely unsuited to the moment—these and other afflictions are surely contributing to the death toll. But in addressing the causes and consequences of this pandemic—and its cruelly uneven impact—the elephant in the room is extreme income inequality.
How big is this elephant? A staggering $50 trillion. That is how much the upward redistribution of income has cost American workers over the past several decades.
