Remember
The machine does not have a mind. It imitates thought without thinking.
The machine does not have senses. It imitates sight without seeing, hearing without hearing.
The machine does not understand language. It imitates speech without speaking.
It can be useful, it can be fun, it can be powerful. It. Is. Not. Real.

5/13: Original Sin
Time flies, and projects languish. Just not this one. OS Installation resolved. I will likely incur the ire of my future self, and deservedly so.
I've installed a corpo operating system. I'm more annoyed than concerned, I used a stable version in the process of being sunset (new enough to be fully compatible but "on the way out" so not likely to be fucked with by the corp), and this isn't permanent. Ada has 3 drives for long term memory, this will be #1, and I will work on a new OS for #2. Driver issues should be easier to resolve with a functioning system. I will give corpo soft credit, 9/10 times it works out of the box on any hardware. Aside from minor cosmetic software issues, all critical firmware and drivers are now updated, and we are fully online.
Okay, I am actually quite miffed about the cosmetic software issues. You wouldn't think a few flashy lights could cause so much trouble.
Given the previous issues with drivers, the project will operate within the corp OS for now. The next step will then be secondary support soft, this would be the IDE, likely an SDK, and other things I'm unaware of. Then, onto the core program. Everything else after that are modules, additional pieces tacked on. The biggest step is ahead. I'd be lying if i said i knew what i was getting myself into, but I will see it through. The expensive part is past at least.

4/29 One Layer Deep
Display issues resolved, BIOS access confirmed, however further delays occurred attempting to reach the next layer, OS installation. Layer 0: Hardware Setup Layer 1: Firmware, the DNA of a machine, its most basic instructions and processes. Layer 2: The Operating System/Kernel, the broad identity of a machine, and the bridge between the hardware and application software.
I am stuck in between 1 and 2, for the moment. Hardware/software conflicts are to be expected. There would hardly be a point to all of this if I wasn't off the main road. Megacorp software and pre-packaged hardware is tempting for those who just want everything to work out of the box. Still, I hadn't expected to hit a roadblock here. Programmers have odd naming conventions, one minute its Kernels and Cookies, the next you're dealing with Wizards, Daemons to be created or killed, and should the software prove troubling there may be Zombies and Orphaned Children in need of Reaping. Cant blame them for wanting to have some fun with what otherwise might be a very boring work, it's what I'm doing after all...

4/27: First Breath
Project Ada took her first breath yesterday, marking 4/27/2025 as day Zero of the project. I know that seems strange, but I don't believe a project begins when it is first thought up, or when you first begin to take action. It begins when the subject matter has its first success, everything before that is just recreation or meandering. Her parts weren't particularly difficult to acquire, though I was I was delayed severely (initial purchases were made in late February, with the idea conceived in late 2024, now you see why I chose to begin the count here). The United States elected a child, who has decided to wreck international shipping because, i suppose, he was bored. Assembly was also fraught with delays, in part due to design misalignment between consumer and industrial parts and in part due to personal areas of inexperience (the Frame and Motherboard proved particularly misaligned). The former have been largely resolved, the later will be an ongoing endeavor. Fortunately personal inexperience can only ever be a delay. Nothing caution and further research and study cant overcome. Current Status - Project Ada took her "First Breath" after final critical assembly. All critical parts pinged as functional, Motherboard: Indicator lights showed green for startup Cooling: Fans and Radiators Activated Processing: Central Processing Unit sent Startup messages Random Access Memory: Indicator Lights activated, full status unconfirmed Graphics Processing Unit: Indicators lit up, translated CPU messages to Display, albeit briefly However, interface issues arose and I made the decision to put Her back to sleep. Core operating software will have to wait for another build window.
