"Acts of Charity" (Rasputin & Marrow)

Sharp fingers clumsily clutch at a screwdriver. The hardware does not fit the careful, precise movements of the software, and causes irritation for the A.I. housed within the cumbersome case.

“Отъебись-!”

Delicate electronics clatter in every direction as they are spiked off the floor. The screwdriver follows them closely behind, and then so does an old, rickety stool. His body is old, joints locking into place as he move too quickly, too sharply for the ill made parts to follow his practiced movements.

“Calm yourself, sir.”

Hearing her voice almost soothed his burning rage. It took him far too long to turn around to face her, already bending over to pick up the stool that nearly laid in pieces.

“Everything is falling apart. Even you.”

“Hrmm…”

The stool clatters and squeaks as it is righted, a large but slender hand rests on his rusted, skeletal shoulder and brings him back to a seated position.

Her face is flat, unreadable, as it always is. He feels the ligaments of his fingers seize as he tries to flex them.

“I… cannot work like this again.”

“Perhaps it��s for the best. We should have stopped being so 'charitable' long ago, don’t you agree, sir?”

Was she annoyed, or was she disappointed? Her hands never linger on him and she always leaves before he knows what to say to her. It always leaves him wanting, in a way. When he tries to get up to follow her, a bolt in his knee snaps and his lower leg falls free from the rest of its length.

Of Krill (for Project Indelible)

Krill are corvid-like birds that withstood the events of the Rapture and the chaos thereafter. Typically found with parasitic, barnacle-like growths that dot their forms and vein-like tendrils that grow from their bodies, Krill maintain the feathers of pre-Rapture birds but now have a multitude of eyes that are clustered around their beaks. Unlike the hive-minded wilds found in nature, krill are their own, separate entities that maintain most of their original behavior patterns, save for their need to build colonies together and hunt in large-scale groups in order to take down prey much larger than themselves.
