“So many versions of just one memory, and yet none of them were right or wrong. Instead, they were all pieces. Only when fitted together, edge to edge, could they even begin to tell the whole story.”

“Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that’s why I made works of art.”

Tobias Kroeger.
Sensational abstract works by German artist Tobias Kroeger.
"I am obsessed with drawing," Tobias explains. "Drawings are the strongest part of my art. They are natural. They are imperfect. They come without thinking. They work or they don't. They keep me going. The goal of my recent work is to bring all this energy to the large-scale canvas."

“I thought of asking her if it freaked her out to look up at night and see the stars and know they go on forever and ever, but didn’t bother. I just said no. You get used to marvelous things. You take them for granted. You can try not to, but you do. There’s too much wonder, that’s all. It’s everywhere.”

One of my favourite openings to a novel:
“If you’re going to read this, don’t bother.
After a couple pages, you won’t want to be here. So forget it. Go away. Get out while you’re still in one piece.
Save yourself.
There has to be something better on television. Or since you have so much time on your hands, maybe you could take a night course. Become a doctor. You could make something out of yourself. Treat yourself to a dinner out. Color your hair.
You’re not getting any younger.
What happens here is first going to piss you off. After that it just gets worse and worse.”
- From ‘Choke’ by Chuck Palahniuk

Sean Banister for "Intersections."
A selection of works by artist Sean Banister for Thinkspace Projects’s group exhibition, “Intersections,” which opens Saturday, February 5th, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.
Sean Banister is using this show as an expansion and continuation of his work in 2020, delving into the identity of humans as storytellers and collectors. Having developed a strong interest in how the items we interact with and collect help us to craft our own self-narratives, Banister explores how this affects image and individuality, from the way one sees themself personally to the way they exist and are viewed in the world. While each of his pieces for “Intersections” is unique, together they all act as facets of the same experience of living in our current time.
“Intersections” features art by artists Sean Banister, Alvaro Naddeo, Gustavo Rimada, and Manuel Zamudio.

“If you’re reading this and you’re not happy right now, you will be. I don’t know what you’re going through. Everyone has their own type of darkness that they’re trying to make sense of, but no matter how dark it gets, you’ll do it. Things will get better, you will get better. Life will become brighter, and you’ll look back on days like these when you couldn’t look forward to the next hour, let alone the next day. When you do, you’ll smile, maybe even laugh, and it’ll hit you. You turned out just fine.”

Jason Kowalski.

Excellent photorealist paintings by Palmer Lake, Colorado-based artist Jason Kowalski.
In talking about his work, Jason states, “I am interested in objects that have a past. Their story is often forgotten and their characteristics of being worn out, broken and old are commonly seen as unattractive.  My goal is to create art that challenges viewers to see the unique beauty found in worn and castaway objects.”
Within his works are hidden ephemera, adding a subtle layer of storytelling and mystery: "Hidden in my paintings are mixed media clippings.  Some of clippings include, heirloom postcards, handwritten notes from the past, vintage photographs, graphic stamps and script from advertising catalogs. This ephemera concealed in my work is not solely to provide a narrative link to the past; the mixed media scraps act as a partner to my brush stroke.  They are placed as design elements and are crafted with considerable importance into the composition."

“I am so afraid of disappointing the people I love, I often forget that I am someone I love too. And I need kindness just as much as I believe the people I love do.”

“People say I love you all the time - when they say, ‘take an umbrella, it’s raining,’ or ‘hurry back,’ or even ‘watch out, you’ll break your neck.’ There are hundreds of ways of wording it - you just have to listen for it, my dear.”

“People speak sometimes about the “bestial” cruelty of man, but that is terribly unjust and offensive to beasts, no animal could ever be so cruel as a man, so artfully, so artistically cruel.”

Dear Friend,
I'm almost sure I might go bad again at some point. I try hard to keep it together but it might all fall apart pretty soon. I don't know what do. I like her so much now and it hurts. I'm stacked up against an unsurmountable obstacle. She also likes girls. She have had boyfriends in the past she said. I just love the way she can talk about these things to me so freely. Like she trusts me or something. Then again I tend to gravitate towards anyone who shows even the slightest interest in me. I fear it will all fall apart soon. I don't want to tell her all about the things I feel for her. Although I feel she knows. I'm just scared of another rejection. It will break me and I will go bad again. I try to convince myself that I should just cherish what we have right now. A sort of close friendship. It has a tendency to not work sometimes and I hate myself for it. God I want to see her again some time.
Sincerely,
Your Friend

“Lately I’ve been thinking about who I want to love, and how I want to love, and why I want to love the way I want to love, and what I need to learn to love that way, and who I need to become to become the kind of love I want to be…and when I break it all down, when I whittle it into a single breath, it essentially comes out like this: Before I die, I want to be somebody’s favorite hiding place, the place they can put everything they know they need to survive, every secret, every solitude, every nervous prayer, and be absolutely certain I will keep it safe. I will keep it safe.”
