He reciprocated the handshake without missing a beat and passed off his unusual surge of energy on the driver’s mundane idea of small talk, and well.. there was no comparison between catching some snooze in the back of a carrier and laying comfortably on a bed. Noctis, however, didn’t mind spending some time reuniting with his friend.

“Yeah yeah, what would you do without me?” A smile grew into a smirk as Noctis stood at his full height. While he didn’t necessarily make any attempt to free himself from the one-armed hug just yet, he glanced around to find his friend unaccompanied. Surprise made itself evident in his features- Prompto spoke highly about his roommate on more than one occasion that the prince simply assumed they’d accompany the photographer to the lobby.

“So,” Noctis turned to face Prompto, a tease rolling off his lips. “Where’s this girl I’ve been hearing about? You didn’t bring her with you?”

      Prompto rolled his eyes at his best friend’s jest.  “A lot of things, from the looks of it.  Nah, I’m just kidding, I can’t do without my best bud, can I?”  Prompto knew that the weeks without his best friend were slightly hard to deal with, considering there was a severe lack of contact and a lot of questions.  “I should say the same to you, I hope life without my amazing presence wasn’t too bad?” he winked, mirth playing on his smirk.   

      Ah.  Noctis, it seems, had gotten a bit too curious about the pinkette that was currently cooking his favorite dishes for him in their humble abode.  Prompto chuckled nervously, shifting back and forth with a small smile on his lips.  Not that he minded the curiosity, he knew he had talked a lot about Shiki in the rare times he was able to contact Noctis.  In fact, he probably mentioned her all the time because of how much time he spent with her.

      “Well, I would’ve seeing as she was very excited to meet you; but she’s preparing something special for you as we speak. Which is why we can't go up yet, she made it very clear that we are not to come back until it is all ready!”  Prompto didn’t divulge all the details, but he made sure it sounded that it was something very important that Shiki’s lack of presence was needed and that Noctis couldn't go up and sleep right away. Sorry Noct, but you'll thank me later!

       “...Aaaaand maybe I wanted to keep her for myself a little bit longer before she gets swept away by your princely charms.”  Prompto was joking, of course, but he couldn’t deny that a little bit of him silently hoped that Shiki wouldn’t fawn over Noctis and stop favoring him.  He liked his relationship with Shiki as it currently was, after all.  It wasn't that he didn't have faith in her either, but Prompto didn't really want to see Shiki become a Noctis fangirl, for the sake of all parties involved.

      Prompto had not been prepared when Noctis informed him that he was finally arriving, much less that he had already landed in the country of Rouve and would be there later in the day.  He wasn’t surprised, though, the crown prince had a tendency to do things at his own pace.

      The announcement had created a stir within Prompto’s household, and he and Shiki had set about to power cleaning the house and getting Noctis' room ready.  Furthermore, the pinkette had fretted about what to feed Noctis; and upon realizing that their fridge had none of the ingredients needed to make his favorite dishes, the girl had rushed out to the grocery store, plotting with him to stall Noctis until everything was ready.  Prompto had been slightly worried about this; but with her constant reassurance that everything was under control, he resigned himself to his task.

      Currently, Prompto was waiting in the main lobby of Soleil Condo’s main office for the prince to make his arrival.  He stood idly with his camera slung across his shoulder, sending a few texts (filled with kaomojis, of course) to Noctis about his whereabouts before switching to another app on his phone, scrolling quickly down as he read.  Prompto wasn’t really sure of what today’s itinerary would be; he decided he’d leave it to the prince’s whim on what to do.  One thing was for sure, however - he couldn’t let Noctis into his place just yet.

      Also, they were for sure taking selfies and photos.  As a result of the affairs back home, Prompto had lost out on weeks of memories.  He had made it a habit to take a daily selfie with Noctis, and everything had disrupted that.  And while taking selfies with Shiki made it all better, there was no replacing selfies with Noctis.

      Seeing a car pull up, Prompto turned off his phone screen and slipped it into his pocket.  He readjusted his posture so that he stood straight and he walked over to the entrance of the lobby.  He watched with amusement as his best friend got out of the car looking like his soul had been taken by the few hours it took to get to the Condos.

      Flashing a grin and waving enthusiastically, Prompto laughed.  “Buddy, I’m starting to get worried about your tolerance.  If I remember correctly, you were able to handle many days worth of sitting in a car during our roadtrip.” He extended his arm and pulled Noctis into their obligatory handshake-hug combination, clapping Noctis’ back with his free hand.

      “It’s good to see you again, Noct.”

Accompanied with a small vibration, his phone’s screen lit up shortly after a message had sent. He scanned the incoming text, a scoff playing at his lips- typical of his friend to react in such a way.

The phone was soon forgotten, turned off and dropped in his pocket. The Prince adjusted his position  (Sadly this car wasn’t as comfortable as his own- poor girl was sent to Hammerhead for tune ups and was expected to arrive within the next week) and was once again, gazing at through the window from the back seat. Outside many were walking in groups; kids were running after each other, some carried large bags, probably from the crowded clothing store, and there was even a long line for the movies too. He’d definitely have to come back later and check it out.

Mistaking the prince’s scoff for an exasperated sigh, his driver assured him that they were no more than a ten minute drive from their destination, barring any traffic. Ten minutes seemed like an eternity, given Noctis hasn’t seen his best friend in weeks. 

His were fixated on the road, but his mind was elsewhere.

Upon arriving in his new neighborhood, the driver pulled Noctis out of his reverie with instruction of someone waiting inside the lobby to further assist him. The car came to a full stop in front of the entrance, and Noctis wasted no time in hopping out of the car to stretch, finally shaking off the immobility of the last few hours.

“It’s nice finally being able to move.” With a quick wave and the flash of a smile, Noctis took a few steps toward a familiar blond standing by. “Don’t think I would have made it another minute in there.”
