Have you ever taken a close look at the statue in McGolrick Park in Greenpoint? No, have you really looked at the tribute to Swedish-American engineer and inventor John Ericsson? Because photographer Katie Sokoler did, and she noticed something rather strange about it: "I guess the sculptor wanted John Ericsson to be remembered for designing the Monitor ship...and for not being able to control his bowels."

A representative from the park has categorically denied Gothamist's "slanderous charges".  The representative goes on to say "haven't you people ever seen a foot before?" and closed by thundering "lying, filthy minds will be silenced!" as the ground rumbled ominously.

1889: Winthrop Park is established on the land bounded by Monitor and  Russell Streets, Nassau and Driggs Avenues

1910: The now-landmarked shelter pavilion is constructed

1923: The World War I statue is built

1939: The park's second statue, honoring the Monitor and Merrimack, is built

1941: Winthrop Park is renamed McGolrick Park, in honor of local religious leader Monsignor Edward J. McGolrick
