#my tiny town is a blip of astonishing purple or even blue in a sea of red politically so we actually DO have our own very small Pride event#we also had our own small No Kings protest#and when I was in school our sports dept stepped in on behalf of the GSA *against* the administration's wishes#and offered the use of the school's trophy cases to protect their posters so that they wouldn't keep getting torn down#which is honestly a pretty big deal socially especially when sports are pretty much the only thing bringing in any funding#because it meant putting posters about being gay over/on top of/in front of Our Civic Pride and stuff

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me

also if you never engage with the spike pits and you express your dislike for spike pits being everywhere or say you think children shouldn't be allowed to "opt in" to spike pits, you're called a boring prude who hates having fun and wants to live under a nanny state
"gambling addiction" is kind of like if people regularly opened pits with spikes at the bottom in public areas and made lots of money from people falling into the pit and so they started greasing the edges and putting these pits in every public space and lobbying to be allowed to install them in people's homes and when someone fell into the greased spike pit in their house they said "oh thats so tragic, they had an addiction to deadly spikes, we obviously support everyone having a safe and healthy responsible relationship with the greased spike pits we're building"

"depiction is not automatically glorification" can and should coexist with "some depiction is glorification and you need to be able to tell the difference"

There's a deeply exhausting woman on this trip who is very concerned about hypothetical perverts and stalkers trying to break into her hotel room/steal her laundry and while I understand paranoia as a woman traveling it still is very tiring when she tries to bond with me over it and I have to be like "Not only do I not think about this stuff but I have strong reason to believe I am much more statistically likely to have this kind of thing happen to me and you need to rethink stuff"

the great thing about the wuxia genre is you can start a sect called the Evil Blood Cult in a place called Demon Mountain that’s a volcano full of poison and you all wear crazy gothic black and red hanfu and practice Sinister Backstabber Style kung fu and like. that’s not a deterrent to prospective disciples. do all that and a fuckton of bright eyed youngsters will still show up at your door and say hello i would like to join the demon mountain evil blood cult where do i sign up?
#lmao fuck. shit. yeah. I guess so huh#from now on I'm going to pause mid-chapter in shit to be like 'oh these guys are Lockheed Martin Sect'

United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.

Okay, everybody's comments prompted me to doublecheck that the image wasn't SUPPOSED to be blurry, so I was able to vote correctly after clicking on it. But it is very funny imagining a bunch of people sabotaged by Tumblr's janky loading or a bad connection, sweating (like I was for a moment) over how obvious the above flag is apparently supposed to be and wondering what the hell they're missing

nobody on this site is ever ever EVER going to top running a blog dedicated entirely to posting cute pics of sweet old dogs in a shelter for a year and gradually becoming one of the most recognized blogs on the website, then without warning dropping “i just want to get dicked down again =/” with 0 explanation and abandoning the blog. not deleting it, not explaining anything, just leaving the whole thing as a monument. fucking flawless posting. literally the best of all time.

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.
american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.
this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
as always, look into MMIWP to learn more, and speak up for us. miigwetch, take care
