What is an English Garden?

There are 2 types of English Gardens. These are often referred to as being the country and cottage garden. The English garden will be connected to some type of a path. The landscapes always have a natural look and feel to them.

Often, you will find that the landscaping is beautifully cut around a pond, lake or fish pool. You may find tree shrubs or pottery as well. You can also have some type of light reflection going into the water of the lake or fish pool. Hanging lights above the pool is often used.

In some English gardens, you will find hedges around ponds or lakes. You can also put in a waterfall or some type of a falling water effect. Even a rock waterfall is often beautiful.

It’s also common to have a fence around your garden. Many people choose the popular colors of white or a nice reddish color as well. There may be a swinging gate over the pathway.

Your garden should have several divided areas. You may have 4 square blocks. You can surround each square block with hedges or some type of a tree. You can also use one main statue for your main garden and the other 3 blocks as your secondary gardens.

When creating your English garden, think about your guests. Putting a bench down for them in the garden is often advisable. In this way, they can sit and enjoy the garden that you have created. Many people will put a table and chairs outside for a way to eat your lunch outside while viewing the garden.

English gardens are often refereed to as English landscape park. They started in the 1800’s and then spread throughout Europe.

Before the 18th century, the jardin à la française garden style was used in the 1700’s. The idea of the English garden was to allow someone to feel “one with nature”. A similar garden is the French landscape.

One of the most beautiful things to put into your English garden is a sitting beach with an archway of flowers going over the bench. This is often beautiful to both sit in and have fun in.

My favorite English garden design is when you take dandelions and put them in front of a white picket fence. The yellow on white design makes it gorgeous. If you don’t like to maintain your garden a lot, the urban garden may be right for you. This kind of garden doesn’t require a lot of high maintenance. In fact, you could plant your garden and just let it sit. It is mostly surrounded by a lot of greenery, wildflowers and trees.

This is a garden that surrounds a cottage, home or perhaps cemetery Mausoleum. In this kind of garden, the flowers and greenery hang on the home walls and close to the house. They are closely bunched together. They can be planted alongside of a pathway, fence or bench.

The English country garden is great if you live on a farm or in an area where many houses are not around. You can design your cottage garden in way that makes your farm home stand out. It can be designed the same way as the cottage garden. The only difference is that this is in a country setting.

A garden centre is a place in which you can buy plants, flowers, soil and other needs for your garden. You can often find a garden center locally or on the internet. Below are some home garden centres that are most likely close to your home:

Choosing the right garden centre is important because you need to buy the right supplies. I find that small local garden shops don’t have enough of the supplies that I need. Therefore, I will often go to a large garden centre like Home Depot to find what I need because I find that they have the best value for your money and everything in one place.

Some nurseries will have full fields of flowers growing and trees. You an often go and pick out the flowers from the farm and then take them home.

Lawn and garden centers will often combine both gardening supplies and lawn supplies at the same time. As you can imagine, your lawn needs a lot of supplies to function. You may need sod, a lawnmower and fences for your grass. You may not be able to find that in a traditional garden center. Therefore, it’s important to find a lawn and garden center because it will have you what need in order to grow and cut your grass properly.

In the United States of American, the most popular orchard garden centres are for oranges and apples. Most orchards are grown in Washington state and New York. If you live in upstate New York (Buffalo, Albany), you may have found a lot of orchards. When apples and oranges are in season, you may have found a farm to pick from fruits and nuts on.

Canadians also eat many apples and that is their most popular orchid as well. Orchard gardens are mostly located in Lake Ontario and parts of the Niagara region.

Whether you choose a small or big garden centre near you is a personal choice. As you can see, you have a variety of garden centres for different purpose and uses. I believe that the center should be a place in which you feel most comfortable.

I often like to drive in my neighborhood to check out all the local orchards. I find that I can do this for several hours on a Saturday. I will often stop off and see if I can pick some apples or oranges from the trees. I live in Florida and most of the orange orchards are open to the public. I also love the farmers markets that we have here. During the months of May to August, most Floridians will visit farmers markets to get the best deals. Organic fruits and vegetable are now becoming more popular and therefore, you can often find these products.
