me: anytime someone brings up the concept of home or finding something else to live for to cal, he thinks of paxton and it makes him so guilty. not only because of jedi repression or his savior complex but because he knows paxton would have come with him with barely a second thought. even with how messy things were being two teenagers stumbling through love, there’s a part of cal that remains on bracca with him.

formal lil notice that until the end of the year, i will be less active on the dash / slower with ic replies than i already am. i am starting a second job which comprises of afternoon shifts (aka the time i would usually write) and will be focusing on working as much as i can since i need to save up for visiting my partner early next year. in addition, i will have family stuff to attend to and will be going interstate for a lil trip in november. all this to say, please bare with me for the next couple months as i have a LOT going on outside of tumblr. i will still be on discord regularly and happy to chat to mutuals there!! mwah xx

     he shakes his head with an exasperated sigh,  hands caught up inside the heart of the mantis's ship controls.   ❛   no, no, i'm good.   ❜   he rebukes breathily.   sure,  he wasn't quite the pilot that greez or hera were,  but he'd spent years working on ships.   you learned a lot of how things worked by breaking them down,  he should be able to transfer that knowledge to putting them back together.   the only thing was that all of the ships were offline,  and most already broken,  when they made it to the shipbreaking yard.   a flurry of sparks streams out,  narrowly missing his cheek with a quick recoil.   beedee emits a long sharp warning trill from their position clinging to his ankle.   with a groan of frustration,  cal drags himself out,  glancing up at the twi'lek who had been watching his ill fated attempts to fix the ship.   ❛   alright. maybe an extra hand couldn't hurt.   ❜

     if he were standing,  that would have knocked him on his ass.   it still feels like the air is suddenly sucked out of the room,  his lungs aching as he desperately tries to breathe.   when cal thinks back to those five years on bracca,  laughter is not what comes to mind for him.   memories are categorized by crawling through carcasses of ships,  curling on a paperthin bed with knees pulled to his chest,  screaming until he's hoarse from the wound in the galaxy bleeding through into him.   paxton saw all of it.   he was the one to lie next to him,  hand resting over cal's as he tucked them close as an anchor.   paxton saw the scars on his arms when they were fresh and raised.   paxton saw his breakdown on that first empire day,  when the weight was so much he nearly cracked and told him what he was.   yet,  the moments of joy in those teenage years could be nearly all attributed to him.   he had found ways to coax soft giggles out of cal when he felt simultaneously an adult and child,  brief glimpses into what could have been.   cal studies the face watching him,  gentle despite evidence of the years that separated them.  the same eyes watching him,  watching him across a packed cafeteria,  watching him from thighs brushing side by side.   lips finally part with voice summoned,  breathless and cracking,   ❛   i missed you.   ❜

     it's a little bit embarrassing when she puts it like that.   one would think his quarters would be nicer given that the ship was a luxury yacht,  but the little room off the engine could hardly be defined as luxury.   it was originally meant as temporary,  the other rooms on the ship had been turned into storage and such in the time cere and greez had been paired up.   over time he'd gotten used to it and actually relied on the white noise to lull him to sleep now,  anywhere else too quiet.   he's tucked away against the inner doorframe as ahsoka surveys the cramped space.   ❛   yeah, not too exciting i’m afraid.   ❜   he joked softly.   cal really had no need for anything more than a bed and a worktable,  considering he left bracca without time to grab anything more.   besides,  it’s roomier than the apartment he had with the guild at least.   he just hoped she doesn't pay too close attention to how sad his bed is — then there might be some more questions.
