That post that's like "stop writing characters who talk like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" really blew the door wide open for me about how common it's become for a character's emotional intelligence to not be taken into consideration when writing conflict. I remember the first time I went to therapy I had such a hard time even identifying what I was feeling, let alone had the language to explain it to someone else. Of course there are plenty of people who've never been to therapy a day in their life who are in tune to their emotions. But even they would have some trouble expressing themselves sometimes. You have to take into account there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable expressing themselves and people who think they're not allowed to feel certain ways. It also makes for more interesting conflict to have characters with different levels of understanding.
"Don't you want to see our friends Ren?" The witch screams.
Ren springs into action and leaps over him to run after the others calling out to them. "The graves! Look for the name Yoshizawa and stay away from them!"
not as bad as writer's block, but still pretty bad: when you have an idea you're excited to get out of your head but you can only write it really really really slowly
A group of teenagers sneak into an abandoned house on halloween night.
"The legend says that on a night just like this the wicked witch that lived in this prefecture centuries ago will rise again!"
"On Halloween?" Makoto asks with a skeptical air. "How convenient."
A pair of betrayed lovers brought back to settle unfinished business.
"Surprised you had the guts to stick around all this time Ren. Were you hoping I'd come back to finish the job and put you out of your misery?" The witch speaks.
The cat-like man makes a rumble like an angry lion in the back of his throat, it rolls into a coughing fit that he spits the reply out of, "You're too much of a coward to finish what you started..
And a slew of curses that it will take off all of them to break.
i hate how you get desensitized to the cool stuff in your WIP if you've been writing it for a long time so when you read back over it you're like "this isn't as cool as i thought :(" but it still is! you just read it too many times
