- The Prophecy of Rafe Adler’s End -
Pictures: Mine
At the auction, we meet Rafe Adler again after 15 years. And he looks a lot different from back then at the prison, in Panama.
Tumblr media
He got pretty buff *-* He seems to be working out a lot. And as it proves later in the game- He also improved his skills and knowledge. But he also seems a lot more tired and tense- Even paranoid. Rafe is Very attentive, as he joins Sully and Nadine! He scans Sully the whole time. He doesn’t want to miss anything. AND! His hair is different. He traded the ‘well-behaved rich boy’ haircut, for the ’rich fuck-boy’ haircut; And there is also suddenly a scar at his hairline- Which is small, but standing out.

When you pick up a sword for the first time you will be slow and awkward. This is frustrating, but refuse the temptation to try and become a “faster” fencer. Chasing after speed is like trying to catch smoke. If you try and pursue speed, all you will accomplish is haste. Haste is the enemy of 1st class fencing.
Speed is a lie the untrained mind tells itself when it sees an action it cannot follow. The truth is a combination of timing, control, and fluidity. Fluid motion, even done slowly, will always arrive before a hasty strike. Control will allow you to move without wasteful motion that will slow you down. Timing will eliminate the need to move fast almost entirely. There is no need to get somewhere fast so long as you get there at the right time.

Sam: You know, Rafe, I been thinking about all the times that you’ve manipulated and toyed with me, and well, I can’t help but recall that children’s fable about the race between the tortoise and the pain-in-the-ass guy that everybody hates.
You see Rafe, the pain-in-the-ass guy that everybody hates kept jumping out in front of the tortoise and taunting him, but right at the end.
Oh, Gosh, I’m sure you remember what happened, Rafe. The tortoise bit clean through the guy’s calf muscle, dragged him to the ground where he and all the other turtles devoured him alive. Right there on the race track. Its a disturbing children’s book, Rafe, I know, but its one that stuck with me nonetheless.
