December 20, 2016, Puerto Carreño, Colombia: Aerosucre Flight 4544, a Boeing 727-200 cargo plane, registration HK-4544, fails to take off and overruns the runway, clipping a fence, and after crossing the street, hitting a tree and an army security booth as it finally manages to take off.

The impact tears off the right main landing gear, which in turn tears off the right flap, their remains getting ingested by the right N°1 engine, immediately destroying it, meanwhile the left N°3 engine ingests part of the fence, flaming out soon after.

With one flap, two engines and most of the hydraulics missing, the crew attempts to go around, but just after 3 minutes, the plane stalls and crashes, killing 5 out of 6 crew members, the sole survivor being a cargo handler that was at the back of the plane during the crash.

Colombian air crash investigators of the Grupo Investigaciones de Accidentes (GRIAA), concluded that the reasons for the crash were a poorly laid out flight plan that miscalculated the weight of the aircraft, and therefore the speed required for take-off, but that also failed to take into account the atmospheric conditions of the airfield, as the crew did not check the current weather conditions. It was also discovered the runway was inadequate for operations with the 727, which Aerosucre had been doing for years.
As of 2019 the company is still in operation, but they no longer fly to Puerto Carreño.

All Nippon Airways had a line of Pokemon-themed airplanes, the last of which was retired in 2016. To commemorate these planes, Takara Tomy released a replica of the original Pokemon plane that first took flight in 1998
