Oh, I suppose I did promise to give an update on my sturgeon training.

I performed my first official feed this last Sunday! Typically, I would be the one talking to the crowd while I do it, however I was a bit nervous about making sure I did it right, so I made my manager interpret in my stead lol. Despite the sterlets trying their hardest to get stepped on, I managed to get through the feeding without incident. It was super fun, and I hope to get scheduled for it again soon so I can be the one yapping next time.

And of course, I did feed the big guy himself, Crackers (not shown in the video though 😔). The rumors are true, he chomps HARD. It was like having my palm smooshed by a Little Tykes car. Also, when I used my foot to bring him to the surface, he did take the liberty of munching on that too. I can officially cross "having my foot in a fish's mouth" off my bucket list.

I was reading earlier today about how, in Scandinavian folklore, the nomenclature that's usually rendered as "ring" in modern English can variously refer to bracelets, armlets, or torcs as well as to finger rings. It's usually clear from context which is intended, though there are some legendary "rings" whose form is not specified in surviving accounts.

This ambiguity is, of course, not present in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings; though the work and its titular object are inspired by these sagas, the One Ring is clearly described as a finger ring. However, my brain has seized upon the finger-ring-or-bracelet ambiguity and spontaneously produced an anachronistic 1990s teen movie version of The Lord of the Rings in which the One "Ring" is a cursed slap bracelet.
