learn to make icons with holly

i amazed my discord server with how i make my icons so i’m here to share my process !

my blockquote template & psd were gifted to me by zanza  so i can’t link those but this should work with any psd and blockquote template !

what you need: photoshop 2021 (but older should work too!) screencaps blockquote template or icon template coloring psd

step one: open your blockquote template in psd. if not using the blockquote, open a new project with the dimensions you want for your icons ! this is what mine looks like when i open it

step two: import your screencaps. important: do not add your psd yet. 

step three: go to the window tab and click timeline.

step four: click the three small squares on the bottom left to go from the video timeline to the frame animation timeline.

step five: on the right side of the timeline, click the three lines.

step six: click make frames from layers

step seven: go to your first frame on the timeline. make sure you have it selected and then go to your layers tab and make the blockquote visible. by doing this on the first frame - it insures that the blockquote will be visible on all frames. the blockquote on this photo is the second layer - the first is luke’s baseball cap.

step eight: insert your psd! make sure the psd is clipping on to your caps and not your blockquote. if your template only has one group - put the psd in the group above all the caps.

step nine: adjust your icons as needed. you click through the frames at the bottom to go through your icons. if your psd doesn’t use an overlay - you can click on the screencap itself and it will auto select that layer so you can transform it without having to scroll through all your layers.

step ten: once your done, it’s time for the batch edit part ! go to file, export as, and render video.

step eleven: this screen should come up! here you can name your icons, select where they’re saving and what you kind of image you want to save them as. click select folder to change where the icons are saved to.

step twelve: ensure that photo image sequence is selected in the first drop down menu

step thirteen: when saving as a png with a transparent background - like we are here with the use of blockquote - you have to change the alpha channel to straight - unmatted. 

step fourteen: you hit render and you’re done !
