If the internet archive gets taken down this would pretty much be the modern day equivalent of the Library of Alexandria burning down. We can’t let this happen.
in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.
for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.
so how can you help?
boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.
learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.
get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.
donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.
and finally…

I really hope music becomes a big part of dreamcore in the future, where both the art and music can be intertwined. Partially the reason why I was inactive for a while was because I was focusing on making music, but then I realized that music and dreamcore/weirdcore art can be connected into one thing, and that really changed the way I viewed both mediums. We’re going to release visualizers for the project, utilizing dreamcore edits and animation. I’m really excited for this project, and I hope you guys will enjoy it when it comes out ❤️
Also I should mention, this isn’t just shilling some music I’m doing on the side, this is fully intended to be a dreamcore project, which is why we’re sharing this here. Anyways, thank y’all for reading, more details regarding the release date and such will be posted soon.
Deep by Mystic Lover & Major Grace
Here's the album cover for a heavily Dreamcore inspired project coming very soon to Holy Coil, Deep by Mystic Lover and Major Grace
I'm personally working on this one with @puredragonn, we're incorporating a lot of Dreamcore/neo-psychedelia elements into the music and visuals. Honestly I'm really excited to put this one out, it's been awesome to see the growth and development of Dreamcore and alongside it the renewed interest in psychedelic culture and experience with our generation. We've been working on a lot of music and art that fits with these new (and old) ideas, I think y'all will like this one. Lots of trance and breakcore elements too ofc, it's got a general happy rave feel to boost the spirit

i may or may not have involvement with this 😉
Big day today, make a wish
Some news on Holy Coil, CD releases for our previous projects are coming out no later than March 3rd on our Bandcamp, all following releases will have CD copies available as well There's also going to be a new project from some of our contributors releasing soon. They've been experimenting with capturing the familiar feelings of weirdcore and dreamcore in their music and visuals. I think you guys will like this one, and of course there will be cassettes and CDs available for it on our bandcamp immediately upon release if you want to snag a physical copy

I assumed that you upscaled them because all of your edits look way bigger than 300x300, but I just checked rn and I realized this whole time that tumblr has just been embedding them bigger lmao
hi lawg!! idk if youre still active and like weirdcore, but how do you make youre images low quality? in other words, what do you make your images with? ~AngeliCx :)
It’s a mix of two things, firstly when I start making my images I make sure they’re at a very low resolution. Usually around 300x300 pixels (doesn’t have to be exactly that or perfectly square though.)
The second thing is when I’m done making an image I’ll export the image in .JPG format. My image editor (GIMP) opens up a little window upon image exporting that lets me choose the quality of the JPG (if the program you use doesn’t have this you can find websites that will do it for you, just google "jpeg compressor.")
I usually set it to around 70%, but I may have to adjust it a little to make the effect more noticeable or make sure that text stays readable.
jpeg compression looks best on images that are already a lower resolution, on a higher resolution image it’s only noticeable when you set it super low (below around 30%) and even then it has a very blocky look rather than the weird squiggly little artifacts you get on a lower resolution pic.
hope this helps!

I never considered making images in a lower resolution *then* upscaling it after. That's pretty cool
