I love reading about development and behind the scenes stuff, hearing creator thoughts and examining where things come from, themes, structure… I love all about the process. There are some great pieces on SUF ending and interviews with Rebecca Sugar coming out, so I’m making a little recommended reading list of some of my favourites I’ve found so far:

I got no problem believing that Zach actually cried while recording this.

The absolute rawness of these sobs are so genuine and hurt so much, you can hear the pain and relief coming out of Steven. The deep breaths, the sniffling, everything. It’s so... real.

Knowing that Zach has been struggling with his own mental health the past few years, and what Steven was going through in Future might’ve been a reflection of that and it became a way for him to express his internal struggles, just sends this scene home.

Sometimes you can’t go back. Sometimes even though it would be the perfect happy ending to bring back an element of where you came from, it just never happens and your old sweet comfort doesn’t return.

So you make your own.

You deal with the fact that it’s imperfect. And maybe a little ugly. And isn’t the same. And doesn’t come in a cool package shipped to a convenient location that you can just enjoy without much trouble.
