I know discourse is the word of choice in fandom nowadays but I kind of wish we would have stuck with “fandom wank” because it carries the implication that the anger involved culminated into effectively nothing and that the act was wholeheartedly masturbatory in nature rather than for any greater cause.

You know what’s a fun and interesting challenge?

Writing a story where Things are happening beyond the main character’s PoV — and somehow conveying it to the audience anyway

Dropping subtle hints in the way things are described to imply something’s not quite right while the character remains oblivious

Giving offhand details during description that imply a story left unsaid

Having other characters remark on mundane things imply something more is going on in their lives elsewhere

I guess that’s the keyword, here — imply

But it can be really fun to structure a story around this kind of foreshadowing

vampires aren’t cool they’re just relatable: old tired stubborn, never go outside, loners by choice, poor diet, horrendous sleep schedule, constant squinting, refusal to change, could easily do something w/ their lives but refrain on principle, spend most of their time locked in a dark box

You know what blows me away.....when the fanfic is longer and way more intresting and intense than the actual book. Like holy shit. They give background characters an actual personality rather than just a cliche. They give characters that are just written off for us to hate. But now you either have reason or fuck it, i never thought about this way where now you love them to pieces.

Thank you fic writers for giving more dimension to our favorite worlds.
