i could go on for hours.
this article puts some of my thoughts into words
edit:
here's the deal- can Spock be played by Goyim? sure yeah, Quinto did a fine job, and I appreciate that he spent time with Nimoy to understand the character better.
but the point basically is that Spock wouldn't be Spock if Nimoy hadn't been Jewish. He would not be the character we know and hold dear. Literally the Vulcan salute alone is entirely due to Nimoy seeing something that struck a cord with him in temple when he was a child.
Nimoy created a character with traits we could identify with, a character that might make us feel seen. The article is largely satire, but the point is there is something in Nimoy so entwined with the character that someone else playing him will always feel... off.

BRO????

THIS IS SO COOL?
I can't read old english but the second chapter is both a translation and notes on the translation/writing choices which i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEYRE SO COOL
THE MEANINGS AND CHOICES IN TRANSLATION ARE GETTING TO ME
Also so many of them have these awesome explanations behind them and then there's this:
"The Old English word for “doctor”, læce, literally means “leech”, which he would hate being called so, so much that I immediately had to use it for him."
LIKE YEAH THATLL DO IT LMAO
GO CHECK IT OUT ITS INTERESTING AF

This goes in line with my post earlier how the standards for heterosexual couples are different, but it does boggle the mind that Gillian is considered a Kirk love interest. She shows zero romantic or sexual interest in him, and at most you could say that he has a mostly-intellectual crush? It comes through the most the very end, when he's gutted that she's not planning to keep in closer touch.
I mean, they don't even *actually* have dinner together! The minute she spills the info he wants he runs off (hilariously carting his takeout box into the Enterprise). And then immediately turns around and has a much more emotionally charged scene with Spock
#the ‘past’ parts of TVH take place in San Francisco in 1986#Gillian says ‘there’s nothing for me here’ other than the whales#my long standing theory is she was involved in the queer community during the AIDS crisis#she’s got nothing left because all her friends have died#she has a soft spot for hard luck cases because she’s helped people on the street before#she’s seen kirk and spock before#in that she’s seen out of towners come to San Francisco with nothing#because it’s the worst moment of their life but San Fran might be where they can find some form of acceptance#Gillian has helped helpless hopeless strangers before#and she’ll do it again#tvh#the one with the whales

okay but one thing that really rips me up about the abramsverse is how much amanda would’ve completely adored uhura, and how happy she would’ve been for her/spock upon them meeting for the first time. i mean not only is spock exploring his human side in dating a human, but this human is a xenolinguist (JUST LIKE AMANDA IS!) who’s absolutely lovely and gorgeous and can play the vulcan lute and sings like an angel and speaks vulcan proficiently enough to be able to pronounce the family name properly. they would definitely trade stories about spock and sarek being adorable/ridiculous, all while jokingly making fun of spock together in a language he doesn’t speak or understand at all. plus amanda would probably be amazed by the stories of all the space travel uhura has done while on the enterprise, and uhura would want to know more about what it’s like being one of the only humans living on vulcan. thinking about how well uhura and amanda would’ve gotten along makes me even more upset over how unnecessary amanda’s death was.

To the woman that inspired countless girls and people of color, we will never forget you.
You will always be in our hearts.
Thank you for going where no woman had gone before.

Nichelle Nichols has passed away.
Martin Luther King once convinced her to continue on as Uhura when she was about to quit. He told her how she was a role model for so many people and had to stay on. He rightfully recognized her as a trailblazer and the inspiration she continued to be.
(Second picture is Nichols participating in a recruitment program for NASA in late 70s/early 80′s, aimed at women and people of color. The third picture is Nichols onboard the stratospheric observatory for infrafred astronomy in 2017, as one of the first non essential personell to be able to do so)
