Who is your favourite yugioh character?

Yuugi is my favorite and I love him so much.

I don't think people give him enough credit for his emotional intuition. One of my favourite instances happens during Battle City where even though Yami does not tell Yuugi about his quest to regain his memories, Yuugi knows that something is bothering Yami and gives him space and waits for Yami to tell him.

I also love how when things get dire for Yami, Yuugi is the one who steps in to help.

Even if it is at the risk of his own life

Yuugi has incredible mental strength. The fact that he was able to tell Yami to leave him even while he was under Drartz's thrall honestly speaks for itself

Also Yuugi is the most courageous person in yugioh for me because when it comes down to it, Yuugi will face anything for the sake of the people he cares about

And we can also see it in the dub for dsod where Yuugi was ready to fight Kaiba in front of a live audience if it meant that he can have a chance of saving Ryou

it is only after seeing Yuugi nod does Atem actually make the move to leave

if anyone has not watched it i highly recommended you do!!

pros: yuugi popping off to kaiba in front of god and live tv, all the dialogs are 150% gayer (and 75% more heartbreaking: yuugi's va did a great job on that part), the dialogs are also funny and you can tell the vas had fun doing the lines

cons: they don't explain the plana or the plot all that well and they change the whole description and motive of the plana from the japanese version, they took away the line where jonouchi says that he saw atem, sera says that the cube is the eight millennium item and nothing comes out of that

score: 8.9/10; -0.4 for the bad plot and villain explanation, -0.2 for no hivemind (that was the plana's whole thing), 0.5 because no one punched kaiba for all the hurtful things he said to yuugi

Guys, the king of games is Yugi not Atem, that's the whole point of the story.

Yuugi is, even now, a revolutionary male main character in a mainstream shonen series. Someone not afraid to show his emotions or cry, to love and care. His bravery is in his kindness and how he dares to believe in people. And it's never shown as a bad thing or "pathetic", something he needed to change - all he needed was faith in himself and confidence. On the contrary, his kindness is what makes a lot of people in his life grow into something better, too!

And he was created in the 90s!!

In one of Takahashi's author's notes for the manga, he mentions how he wanted to create a shounen/fighting manga but needed a fresh perspective on it, since it'd all been done before. The idea that came to him was a manga where the main character never hits anyone, which opened his eyes to using games as tools of battle.

Takahashi loved games and gaming his whole life. There's this really lovely video where he shows off all his collections of figurines and games at his house. The man really did live life exactly like he wanted and loved everything he did so much ;;. What a guy.

Yuugi's truly the character of all time. I love him so much <3.

This is what I love about Yuugi so much!!

In most shonen anime the kindness is an addendum to their strength. We can take Naruto for example. He is known for his kindness (and the Talk no Jutsu by extension). However, almost every character (with the exception of Iruka-sensei) respects and admires Naruto for his strength and unshakable will first. His kindness is considered a separate trait to his strength.

But for Yuugi his kindness is not separate from the idea of 'strength', for him those two are the same thing!! And you are right!! He never had to become more 'manly' or 'tough', because those traits do not always equate to strength. And Takahashi shows that different kinds of strength can exist in tandem with each other without one being superior over the other and I appreciate him so much for it.

Takahashi was truly ahead of his time <3

If you can direct me to the video, I would love to see it. Takahashi really did name his main character after his favorite thing :')

this movie is so beautiful and so much fun to watch!! they tied up a lot of loose ends and we also get closure to some degree which is very nice

9/10 stars: 0.5 taken away because i feel like they could have devled into the prana hivemind thing and yuugi is 'chosen' just like them for some good angst and tensioon, the other 0.5 is taken because nobody punched Kaiba even once for all the hurtful and dehumanizing things he said to Yuugi

I will watch the dub as well but for the most part we are done!! Thank you to everyone who has stuck along for the ride and thank you for interacting with my silly posts! it makes my absolute day!!
