luca jansen.
the girl’s voice broke luca’s thoughts. thoughts lost on the world as it is and where they were to go from there, and he looked over at her. the sound was lost to his own ears. there was a reason that luca’s talents lied in killing people, not hunting in the world around him. “ did i hear what exactly? ” his voice full of confusion, looking around before looking back at her. “ the bird? ”
her lips purse immediately, keeping a strangled noise from escaping her lips. the bird. “ yes, the bird. ” she replies impatiently. it’s much more than a bird. it’s an injured bird. it’s an issue of concern. but, to the untrained ear, it’s simply a bird.

She narrows at him slightly and he can’t help but wonder if he’s came across poorly. He’d thought it a nice gesture, at the very least he thinks now he’s too invested in the outcome in this all. Maybe the outcome had already came and went though, the bird was dead; nothing left to be gained now. Yet Levi wants to stay, for one reason or another, so his boots dig a bit stubbornly into the dirt. “I want ta’ ya’ shouldn’t have ta’ be alone, n’ I dunnu’, tha’ bird outta have a couple people respectin’ it right? Didn’t have much o’ a chance.” Maybe Levi just thinks he might want people at his own funeral, might want to matter and so he offers his time in exchange for this small moment. “Kinda…sad, I’d want people ta’ miss me.” This was just a bird, or course nothing might not miss it, still Levi’s feet didn’t will himself away and he cracks his knuckles. “Well, lets get ta’ buryin’ him,” He sighs.
involuntarily, her eyes narrow. she doesn’t mean to treat him so suspiciously, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. still, she gives a small shrug. “ i suppose you’re not wrong. ” in truth, the sentiment is nice. she nods in agreement to his words.
then, wistfully, she adds, “ it’d be nice to be missed. ” the likeness of her being mourned is slim. she had no friends in teshayra, only people who secretly wished she were gone. she has no friends in zenan, only people who would never know her the secrets she hid. “ yeah, ” she murmurs, her gaze lowering to the bird, “ let’s go bury this little guy. ”

“you think so?” he inquires, his gaze settling on the bird with newfound respect. “i can only hope that we can rise much like the bird here. one can only hope, yes?”
“ i think so, ” she says with a nod. without hope, there would’ve been little keeping her and her father alive during their year in captivity. “ sometimes that’s all you can do. ”

“Is there a reason you are so interested on what is inside? After all, from what I hear is all dangerous animals and dangerous terrain.”
she thinks for a moment before shrugging. the answer is simple. “ curiousity. i want to see the unknown. ”

He shrugs “I have never seen them as pets, is not like a mis treat them or anything don’t get me wrong but is not like I spend time with any of my horses just because or anything like that.” Wasn’t that what you did with a pet?

“ but you take care of them do you not ?? even if not personally, you still provide them their stables, their food, their saddles. ”

She frowned faintly tryong to think why would that be but maybe she shouldn’t question those things right now.”Should we look for it, maybe we can help it?”
her eyes light up at the suggestion. immediately she gestures to her left. “ i think i heard it over there. ”

The care of birds of any kind didn’t matter to James in any level, he also had his personal ravens that were taken care of by his servants. “So what are you doing here while you wait to go back to Kradeace?”

pandora gives a shrug as she says, “ i walk. i listen. i watch. there’s little else to do. i’m just trying to enjoy my time here while waiting for word to go home. ”

“ a nurse of people, yes, but of birds? ” the nurse shakes her head, giving a small frown. “ if this bird was a human with a broken arm we would bandage them… i don’t see why we can’t do that here. ” she reached into her coat pocket to pull out a handkerchief, extending it toward the other. “ could this work? ” the woman seemed much more knowledgeable with birds than herself.
pandora offers the woman a smile. “ thank you, ” she says softly, accepting the square cloth. “ I’ll wrap up the wing like so -- ” she demonstrates this on the bird, “ and then she’ll be just fine. she’ll just need some time to heal. ”

Levi had dreaded hearing that, nor does he find the laugh to amount to an humor in the moment, or what he had said to be funny. He supposed people grieved in different ways though and he couldn’t fault her for such. His expression is still washed with a fleeting moment of sadness, if there is nothing that can be done then there is nothing that can be done he supposed, still. “I can do it, if ya’ want.” He doesn’t offer much in this moment, what could he offer other than that, “or just help ya’.” All he knew was he didn’t want to just up and leave, perhaps the creature didn’t deserve a lot ( it was still once living though so he likes to think he does ) but the women before him deserved more he figured, than to be left to bury something alone. How sad to be the only one breathing at a funeral, even if it was for just a creature besides themselves. He’d buried things before, memories mostly; but pets too. This was only different in the fact it was a bird and she a stranger.
pandora looks over at him, her eyes narrowing slightly. she’s unused to kindness. he doesn’t know her. he doesn’t know this bird. why would he offer to stay ?? there’s nothing to gain. she continues to stare at him for another moment before finally, she offers, “ you can leave. you don’t need to feel obligated to stay. ” it wouldn’t be the first time pandora’s mourned alone.

“seems like it’s still got a flutter of hope left in it,” he remarks, studying the bird closely, “something we all need in trying times such as these.” hope was in rare occurrence as far as he considered.
pandora watches the bird try to flap its wings for a moment. it’s almost painful to watch, but she’s transfixed because he’s right. there’s a flutter of hope. “ there’s always hope at the bottom of the box, ” she says with a faint smile.

“I guess some types of dogs could pass as a good pet…but I don’t have the time to give to a pet anymore, maybe in the future when things are more calm.” Though would they ever? “I guess the closest thing i have for pet are my horses.”

pandora’s eyes narrow in confusion. “ horses are pets, ” she says plainly. “ your majesty, i would most definitely say that horses count as pets. ” why would they not ??

Lucia looks up following the gaze of the other woman before looking around “So a little bird feel from its nest? Do you think is nearby?” She said as she tried to hear anything but she was unsuccessful.
“ well, ” pandora starts, monitoring the woman’s reaction, “ if i can hear it, but you cannot, perhaps they’re actually a distance away. ”

He raises an eyebrow, not sure if he believes her but, well are the secrets of some bird keeper that he knew wasn’t some noble pretending a commoner really interested him? Not really. “Ah right I see… So you mainly took care of ravens?”
“ primarily, ” she chirps in reply. pandora’s confident enough that she won’t get caught in the web of lies she’s spinning. she knows much about birds, and she does a know a great deal about ravens.

he frowns, not really getting it. birds were birds, what did a human about the pain a airborne animal could have? maybe she was very passionate about the animal. he nodded, not wanting to be rude. “um —” he struggled, looking around for a moment hoping to find a way to get out of this. none. “how do you know?” he asks, forcing his voice to come out more gentle and less critical. but if he were honest, he didn’t know if he pulled it off.
her eyes narrow, not entirely sold that he cares about a single word coming out of her mouth. then again, he doesn’t have to. she’s just a crazy girl with a penchant for birds. “ y’know how both crying, and laughing sound awfully similar ?? they both have very subtle differences -- can’t you tell ?? ” pandora doesn’t wait for an answer. “ it’s the same with birds. ”

she watches the woman with bright eyes, curious as to what she’s doing. as much as lucrezia has always loved nature she has never been so bold to interact with wildlife. “ are they hurt? ” she questions, taking a step forward with her hands folded behind her back, craning out her neck to see.
as she watches the bird a moment more, she tuts softly as they continue to spaz in the dirt. “ i think they’ve got a broken wing. ” it’s an easy conclusion, given the evidence. “ you don’t happen to know how to fix that, do you ?? ”

He wishes in this moment that he knew more of birds, if only to somehow help the poor creature, he knows this is but life and how the world sometimes works but…if he could salvage the situation then perhaps the bird could live. He can’t save everyone or every small animal he finds though. Still it is a sad notion to know that before it even had a chance it is as good as dead by her reaction. “There’s nothing tha’ can be done? We can’t just put it back in tha’ nest?” Levi questions, perhaps this is a vain attempt but it is one nonetheless.
she laughs at the attempt -- not because she’s cruel, but more because she welcomes humour in the dark moments. the air that death brings is smothering. “ no, ” she says with a soft shake of her head, “ that’s not one of the options. ” pandora gently picks up the bird’s body. then, as she stands, she says, “ i ought to go bury this guy. ”

“Considering not even people from Bearoria go inside I don’t think there is anything hiding there, is just a dangerous place, regardless of it having spiders or not.”
she gives a small shrug of her shoulders. “ it was simply speculation, ” she says. in truth, pandora is disappointed that the other woman doesn’t at least guess.
