After a two year wait, Hong Kong rocker Paul Wong finally releases his new album Madman's Work, bringing a much needed kick to the music scene. Containing seven tracks, this album shows once again that there is no other artist like Paul Wong. From his days with Beyond to his impressive solo work, he has been holding up Hong Kong's rock scene for over 20 years. Madman's Work, true to its title, showcases Paul's signature rock numbers and piercing lyrics.
The album starts off in true Paul Wong fashion with the gritty, sprawlingly paced "Stepping Over the Line" (Track 1), which features his expressively raw vocals and some fierce drumming from friend Jun Kung. The rocking "Original Sinner" (Track 2) has a catchy, energetic melody and interesting lyrics about love and sin. Paul's contribution to indie film My Mother is a Belly Dancer, "Colorful World" (Track 5) is a soft, lingering track musing on life's yearnings. Madman's Work also contains live versions of "Dark Purple High Heels" (Track 6) and "Don't Need to Die" (Track 7) recorded from his 2006 Hong Kong concert.
