Ah thats a good point. The kids will most likely enjoy what the collectors enjoy but the collectors probably wont like a messy design. I think itd be more wise to lean toward collector shenanigans.... Unless Electrified sold well. If that sold well than I'll just fold.

...TBH That doll is TERRIBLE. Tho TBH since its a hair play doll... a different hairstyle (an up-do specifically) would probably make it look so much better. But it still has that shaved widows peak scale line as well as YELLOW LIPS? WHY YELLOW LIPS? And BLUE eyebrows... Her feet kind look gross in those shoes too.

The deep sea print that sorta looks like a galaxy print is pretty cool tho.

It seems shes suffering in the same way the male characters suffer. Half-ass the male characters and no one likes them... but then be like 'No one likes them so theres no point in putting in effort for them' crazy vicious cycle.

She cute. This is a VERY budget, non-articulated playline, so while I COULD talk about how basic it is... that would be a moot point, bc the line is MADE to be basic.

Would I love to have seen MORE detail?

Ofc, but still, even lacking, the doll itself is cute, and her outfit isn't hideous, and is at least more cohesive than whatever was going on with the Garden Mysteries line (and THOSE were higher budget / articulated! so...)

The one thing I WILL openly begrudge this doll is how BORING her hair is... I don't mind the bun, but those slicked down, side-parted bangs... SO boring! Maybe a headband or some cute little hair clips could save it, but... looking forward to seeing what restyles do w/ that.

MOVING ON Lagoon:

okay, I kNOW I just said 'this is budget so I wouldn't complain abt the basic-ness of it', but I WILL complain abt them cheap-ing out on her gradient legs... like... c'mon.

Also, while I said Twyla's hair was boring, I still found it cute enough... I don't feel the same abt this. Maybe it's cause she got a low bun??? Idk it's not working for her.

Maybe two twin buns could've been cute??

She's my least favorite of this line.

NEXT Cleo:

Even budget and with no articulation to speak of Cleo still manages to look STUNNING. I like the dark top lip & light bottom lip. And she looks like she got blushing? (I can't tell if the other two do, looking back at them I THINK they might but it's just v light?? On Cleo it's clearly visible, and nice!)

...Idk why EVERYONE in this line seems to have their hair in buns for some reason... Cleo wears it better than Lagoona, at least, but still it's so boring... Also I really wish they hadn't used a brighter blue from her hair color, it causes the even lighter accent blue to get lost... it stands out better in the navy color she usually has. If, since these are budget, the navy would've costed more, so that's why they used the brighter blue, then I wish for her accent color they'd have used gold instead of the light blue.

I also don't like that they went with such a True Blue for her shoes? I think a lighter blue (like her purse, and the accents on the bow on her chest) would've fit better. OR Gold.

AND LASTLY, Clawdeen:

FINALLY someone that ain't got a god damned BUN!

I wish her hair was curly ALL the way (but I am glad to see her getting to have SOME curls), and that it was brown... this would've looked sO much better brown!!! Please... give my girl brown hair...the purple ain't it.

I think her bow earrings are cute, but that she got too much going on w/ her other ear. (Usually she got one in each, don't she?? They just asymmetric/don't match? Why she got like, 3 in one ear here. It's too much. They should've done JUST the bow ones, those're cute...)

Also I don't love the purple lipstick. I would've liked to see something darker, I think?? Maybe black, or an almost-black shade?

Ah well. I honestly dont mind the lack of articulation in dolls personally. I always liked more accurate figures rather than that but the gimmick stuff is cringe... and the plastic clothes suck.

Besides the last doll in that line up I think those first 4 are actually pretty cute. The first rainbow girl does the rainbow a low better but it also kinda highlights the colored hairstreaks with brown hair looking kinda awkward. A dark brown would probably look better.

I don't always like all of the RH face sculpts, but I really like this one!! She looks very sweet.

My only complaint is that her eyebrows are a sort of cream color that get lost in her skin-tone, rather than a true white (like her baby hairs) that would've stood out better...

I do doll customs and a problem im having with getting g1 is mainly that A: a lot of those girls are PINK and B: I kinda prefer g3 due to the diverse body types? like theres no point in doing a custom of Robecca if she's just going to get a new doll in 2026. yknow what i mean?

Nah man I mean even the official does multiple types of the same character.. be creative with the older bases if it says something to you. You could even compare an old custom to the newer one when it comes out and see how much youve improved or see somethings you dont think work. A practice run or w/e.

Starting off w/ Sweet Screams Twyla, since she's the only G1 of the bunch:

I think it's a very cute detail for the li'l skull-scoop on the tip of her ice cream cone hat to have bunny ears.

Also I can't tell if the asymmetry of her hair poofs is intentional, but if it is, that's also cute!!

I like the blushing they did on her face!! That she got a li'l on her nose is very cute. ;w; I also like her mismatched earrings.

I find it weird that only ONE of her hands has the black? Usually both her arms have it...

I don't really LOVE her dress... it's kinda boring? I can vaguely make out some potentially cute candy shaped... beads? buttons? under all that tulle, but. //shrugs. I wish they'd found some way to bring in the mint green... even as just an accent, somewhere. It just feels v purple heavy. Even the black, there's just that small bit? Feels unbalanced. Maybe the tulle could've been alternating between purple & black??

Her shoe-sculpt I think is CUTE and it's a shame it's (more or less) all that translucent color because it makes all of the details—like those li'l spider webs on it, get lost... forever wishing they painted details onto MH shoes more to bring them out better...

I've seen some criticism that she doesn't really fit with the rest of the line (which, is a valid concern I think, when it comes to dolls released YEARS after their OG line—FdC!Draculaura being an example), but I gotta disagree in this instance. I think she fits in just fine w/ the rest:

...my only gripe is that she has, arguably, the most basic ass dress, in comparison to the rest... I KNOW she's supposed to be cotton candy, and cotton candy is fluffy but...idk I feel like they've done better than they did when it came down to her dress... I DISAGREE! I mean Drac. Shes got a simple classic design... and shes probably the most popular. Maybe because shes pink... but Frankie also seems SUPER popular and theyre design is weird but ironically solid. Lagoona needs a stronger design... shes a little too try hard and now she doesnt seem to appeal to many people.

Having her skin be able to change in different temps WOULD actually be pretty cool! Maybe pink for cold since most water is cold and they seem to want that as her main color?

Yeah her forehead scales make it look like she shaved back her hair or something and thats like... stubble? So it looks awkward as hell. The scale freckles are cute tho.

Heres my idea for a Mystery Box toy line.

Theyre magnetized pride flag plushies called QUEERIES... cuz Query... and queer. :3c

Their noses and hands have magnets so the can stick together.

Id also have it so the main cast is able to be bought individually but the mystery boxes would have special rares which were duplicate pride flags but on different animals with slightly different styles.

Except Phoenix and Ally. Theyre the SUPER rare ones with the special shapes of a phoenix and bat.

The gay and lesbian flags are based on THEYRE TURNING THE FRICKEN FROGS GAY and Mourning Geckos that are parthenogenic (based on Leafy Streets title Tiny Lesbian Gecko Army)

Lagoona was never really popular with kids (and is frequently a low seller) so them trying ANYTHING to keep her popular makes sense, same with Ghoulia, although now them getting rid of her not being able to speak english makes sense if you consider the current administration

I dont watch the cartoons so IDK anything about Ghoulia but thats unfortunate. But Monster High does seem a little more accepting as it goes on... thinking of the more textured hair, body types, disabilities, etc.

Yeah of all the dolls I see frequently... Ghoulia has probably the hardest color palette. That candy red and neon green with the pastel blues along with the heavy black and white... is a hot mess. I guess G3 tried to remedy that my going with pink and green with a greener skin tone but IDK. Its still rough. I think if they replaced the red/pink with purple itd be better. Purples and greens look great together and purple doesnt clash with the blue of her hair and it can be darker to mellow out the stark black/white?

But yeah wth happened with Abbey? LMAO Shes the perfect snow cone girlie... its practically built into her character. These were the earlier designs I still stand on that confusion. Abbey shoulda been a walk in the park.

This new Rainbow High Color & Create line spin-off (I think this line is 'air brush'??) doll is so pretty...

I love her curls, & she's FRECKLED!! :'O I look forward to seeing how collectors will customize her when they get their hands on her—but even plain as she comes, I find her very pretty!

I don't always like all of the RH face sculpts, but I really like this one!! She looks very sweet.

My only complaint is that her eyebrows are a sort of cream color that get lost in her skin-tone, rather than a true white (like her baby hairs) that would've stood out better...

I think of all the '(thing) & create' line dolls, she's my favorite...

Also, for the Coral and White themed girls, I wish that their legs had different colored liquid... the orange (for the coral girl) and the blue (for the white themed girl) just... stand out, weirdly??? especially when the other two girls legs seem to fit their color scheme...

Honestly updating MH character archetypes for modern day really shows how our societal perception over school has changed as well as (unintentionally) how wealth gaps have affected social structure. Ex: Jinafire originally being based on outdated orientalist viewpoints but she now represents the new student archetype of “wealthy chinese foriegn exchange student” which is just a FASCINATING thing to have become a “thing” (ive encountered a good 6-12 of them in my school days, a lot of them were so insanely wealthy and wanted to larp as an american to have fun)

YEAH The button eyes are SO cool and striking. I also didnt notice the colors pattern was mismatched with diagonal lines in one vs the radiating lines in the other. Its a weird subtle detail I only NOW noticed lmao. So many tiny details!

FOR REAL! LMAO tho tbh if it was like a lighter purple Id probably be fine with it but I do think a teal would be more fun. MH artists have a curse of adding a random fucked up color to a great design for no reason LMAO.

Apparently this doll is kinda expensive/exclusive? too... might not be too many people willing to hand paint them either. Tho itd probably look cool.

I think immediately of the circus when it comes to cotton candy anyhow. Someone has to try REAL hard to make cotton candy NOT circus to me TBH Yeah but Abbey and Ghoulia stand out cuz theyre a MESS LMFAO They look very budget fashion-wise. Abbeys melting ice cream cone crown is SUCH a cunty idea tho... what a waste.

I think with Twyla its the fact shes SO purple and im looking mostly at Drac and Frankie and they got so much black/darker palettes with smoother silhouettes vs the poofy bright of Twyla. So thats why she doesnt fit as much?

Ewim's post abt dolls reminded me... I ain't shared my Opinions That Nobody Asked For abt any of the upcoming MH dolls we've got pics of, now. SO...

Starting off w/ Sweet Screams Twyla, since she's the only G1 of the bunch:

I think it's a very cute detail for the li'l skull-scoop on the tip of her ice cream cone hat to have bunny ears.

Also I can't tell if the asymmetry of her hair poofs is intentional, but if it is, that's also cute!!

I like the blushing they did on her face!! That she got a li'l on her nose is very cute. ;w; I also like her mismatched earrings.

I find it weird that only ONE of her hands has the black? Usually both her arms have it...

I don't really LOVE her dress... it's kinda boring? I can vaguely make out some potentially cute candy shaped... beads? buttons? under all that tulle, but. //shrugs. I wish they'd found some way to bring in the mint green... even as just an accent, somewhere. It just feels v purple heavy. Even the black, there's just that small bit? Feels unbalanced. Maybe the tulle could've been alternating between purple & black??

Her shoe-sculpt I think is CUTE and it's a shame it's (more or less) all that translucent color because it makes all of the details—like those li'l spider webs on it, get lost... forever wishing they painted details onto MH shoes more to bring them out better...

I've seen some criticism that she doesn't really fit with the rest of the line (which, is a valid concern I think, when it comes to dolls released YEARS after their OG line—FdC!Draculaura being an example), but I gotta disagree in this instance. I think she fits in just fine w/ the rest:

...my only gripe is that she has, arguably, the most basic ass dress, in comparison to the rest... I KNOW she's supposed to be cotton candy, and cotton candy is fluffy but...idk I feel like they've done better than they did when it came down to her dress... (I will say, I think that her & Drac in particular will look super cute together)
