October 11th, Happy Birthday Dexter!

Dexter is one of the main Ham-Hams, and one of the smartest ones.

Dexter is a gray furred hamster from his nose up to the top of his tail, and soft cream on his belly, like most male Ham-Hams. The most noticeable feature on his fur, however, is the brown marks around his eyes that are connected through the top of his nose, and resemble a pair of glasses. However, he also wears a red bow-tie to look more fancy and regal.

Dexter’s personality is that of a slightly snobby, know-it-all hamster. He likes to “talk politely” and grandiloquent, as a way to distinguish himself from the Ham-Hams but especially of the rowdy Howdy. He is smart, albeit not as smart as Maxwell. He also has a short temper that shows most of the time when confronting Howdy, and in later episodes, he becomes extremely sassy.

Dexter lives with his owner, Curtis, who owns an optic shop right next door to Howdy’s owner’s market. Dexter’s Japanese name is Megane-kun, which can be translated directly as “glasses”. His name is, obviously, a reference to his special fur mark.

Dexter shares an image song with Howdy, called “Bokura Rival! MM Boizu” which can be translated roughly as “We are rivals! MM Boys”, and as you may suspect, it goes on about the rivalship between the two. To note is the fact that they form a subgroup inside the Ham-Hams called the “MM Boys”, the MM referencing their Japanese names: Megane and Maido.

Dexter’s birthday was apparently chosen at random, since it is not a special date or a pun. If you happen to know why, please let us know!

Relationships

Dexter professes his love for Pashmina from very early in the series, and it is a constant that never changes up to the last episode. However, there is times where it is clear that his love interest leans more towards being able to score a victory against his eternal rival, Howdy, than an actual genuine love interest for the gentle girl. Pashmina however, rarely shows any interest in either him or his rival, albeit there’s been a few times where she has shown slight interest and she is usually seen around these two.

A one-episode hamster, Hannah, also seems to have a crush on Dexter, but although he admits he finds her pretty, he doesn’t seems to be interested on courting her.

Finally, one widely accepted by fans and also promoted quite a lot by the series itself, is the theory that Dexter and Howdy are in love but they deny it. As usual, this cracked pairing follows the “opposites attract” rule that many Hamtaro pairings or possible pairings do, but in their case it is also promoted by the fact that they are always together, and although they are most of the time fighting, they can be seen playing and supporting each other plenty of times. Even in Ham-Ham Heartbreak you fix their friendship and get a point in the love meter as a result!

Episode 248 - We Are The Best of Friends!

This episode focuses on Dexter and Howdy relationship. When Dexter tells the Ham-Hams that he and his owner Curtis are moving away, the Ham-Hams are devastated, but especially Howdy. Will their last day together be enough to make amends?

There are plenty episodes that have Dexter as a prime character, but they either focus on the humans or only have Dexter as a support character, so we won’t add them here.

watched the first episode of daimaaa
