Important question: how does the band My Chemical Romance relate to TB?

As I'm sure you're aware, the band is named after an Irvine Welsh book: Ecstacy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance.

The second novella in that book, "Fortune's Always Hiding," is about a person named Samantha who lives with disfigurement as a result of thalidomide, a drug that has been used to treat everything from leprosy to cancer. Thalidomide can cause severe, even fatal birth defects.

Leprosy and tuberculosis are caused by closely related bacteria, and thalidomide is also sometimes used in the treatment of TB--especially when TB has invaded the brain and is causing brain swelling.

So MCR got their name from a book that discusses a drug that is sometimes used to treat tuberculosis.

6. What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?

so atropos started out as a drow, not a tiefling, and that has informed a lot of her appearance. i shifted her skin color away from dark brown/purple and made it more gray, because i wanted her to look a little more dead. the hair - in game i put it as a base of purple with midnight blue highlights and black graying, but i imagine it to change colors in different lights, so that no one can ever decide if it’s black or blue or purple. that was really just an aesthetic choice, and one i decided on pretty early on, as even drow atropos had dark hair rather than typical drow white. as for the horns and tail, i wanted to make her look as much like the slayer as possible. her horns are probably bigger than they are in-game, but still have the same long, straight thorn-like appearance. and of course the spiky tail hehe that’s probably my favorite thing about her design.

i guess i wanted her to look scary but not in the way default durge is scary. i wanted a perfect rogue assassin, where every aspect of her is able to be weaponized, from her claws and teeth to her horns and tail. she’s small and dark gray so she can hide easily in the shadows, you’ll never see her coming

so the scene i’ve been stuck on for months as the brba/bcs brainrot overtakes me is the companions confronting Atropos after she warns Isobel that “my blood is telling me to kill you”. everyone is, of course, very concerned about this, but she doesn’t want to explain because it would mean explaining about sceleritas, which would mean explaining where the deathstalker’s mantle came from, which would mean telling them heyyy i totally killed one of those tiefling refugees and bribed astarion into not telling you sorry! and then wyll would be disappointed in her.

the PROBLEM is that i’m having trouble with her voice during all that. she’s struggling with the urge, she’s angry, she knows her friends will not be happy that she killed an innocent refugee and i honestly have no clue how the split between angry and remorseful is. she’s still mostly fighting against the urge for purposes of self-control, not necessarily any actual morality. and it’s from astarion’s pov so i’m not even in her head about it

what i really need to do is just write the scene from her pov and then rewrite it from astarion’s, but. well. i’ve got gay drug lords to write about too

i do want to get back to hypocognition because i haven’t even gotten to the good parts yet and i still have so many feelings about it. i try to split my time but it only works so well, i serve at the whims of my brain goblin and that bitch is finicky

crazy that gravity falls was like, hey what if we made twin brothers, and one of them is the worse one. he gets bad grades, he likes to punch his problems, everyone thinks of him as “the other one.” he’s engulfed in a shadow that’s shaped like him. he doesn’t even have his own name—it’s derived of his brother’s name, the only one his parents planned on having and using. everything about him is derivative—imitative of another person (his twin brother) (the one everyone likes and wants) and is disapproved of for that reason (he isn’t just “bad at this thing,” he’s “not as good as his brother”). and then he ruins his brother’s science fair project (the one next to his own—no one noticed it because it’s not good, it’s almost stupid next to a “perpetual motion machine” made by a high schooler) (he tried to fix it) (he doesn’t know how; he’s not as smart as the guy who made it) and he gets kicked out. the potential of the money his twin could’ve made is enough to throw him onto the street, and he can’t go home until he makes that money back (the money that was never gained and therefore was never lost. he never had a chance of making enough). he took every job he could (his brother went to school). he got banned from multiple states (his brother bought a house). he traveled internationally and went to prison and had people try to hunt him down and kill him because he couldn’t make enough money (his brother’s house has three basements. he made them himself, as secure as can be). and when his twin finally summons him for help, things go wrong (he messed up this machine like the last one) (he doesn’t know how to fix it. he isn’t as smart as the guy who made it) (he tries to fix it) (he was never any good at reading and these blueprints are impossible, coded and fragmented and in a science that he didn’t know existed) (he tries to fix it). the townspeople ask who he is, and he doesn’t even say his own name (it was hardly his to begin with). and he invites them to a house that isn’t his to show off experiments that aren’t his because he needs to make money that can’t be his. everything he does for the next 30 years is in his twin’s name, for his twin’s sake. he had two funerals for himself and it isn’t even his body in the casket; he had to wear his brother’s name to both of them. if he had died before he fixed the portal, that funeral wouldn’t have been for him. we meet him as a funny and unique character, but in-universe, he’s only ever been defined by someone else.

and then they went, this is entirely in the background btw. most of that is going to be revealed in one episode and won’t be addressed again. he’s a primary comic relief, even. I’m ill about this.
