Mkay definitely going to be writing..... multiple Quantum Leap fanfics at some point in the future so establishing some ground rules / changes because the writers clearly have no concept of the word "consistency":
1) 100% body swap. Sam and the person he Leaped into are physically in each other's bodies, the only ones who see Sam as "Sam" (aka the actor Scott Bakula) is canonically the AudienceTM, the other side of the Fourth Wall. he literally has no idea what he himself looks like because he sees the person he's Leaped into in the mirror, and Al also sees him as whoever he's Leaped into.
(On the inverse, this means that whenever Sam Leaps into someone new, everyone at home has to deal with the fact that the body of their best friend is being possessed by a wide variety of people, some of whom are super traumatized, confused, and alarmed at what is happening, from terrified soldiers taken straight from the front lines of Vietnam, to coldblooded hit men, to Sam's literal 13 year old self. There's a lot to unpack here in terms of potential angst)
(Also, None of this bullshit where Sam can see while in the body of a blind man, or having half the episode try to convince you he's not actually pregnant until the last minute or saying "she could have the baby in the future and then the baby could be stuck there!" Like excuse me writers, you are breaking your own universe's established rules in the most hilariously stupid reach with that lol. That's now how this works.)
2) Sam knows american sign language. Any man that goes out of their way to learn 8 different languages is going to learn the main sign language of where he lives, especially with a photographic memory, he would learn quickly just from being around Deaf colleagues and friends.
3) Sam's 100% autistic in my fics :)
4) Sam is also 100% Asexual in my fics :) wether or not he remembers that or even knew it existed as even a concept is up in the air, but either way he'll slowly discover it over the course of the fics. He's also sex repulsed.
5) 4X01 doesn't exist. It was dumb, contrived, and didn't do anything except derail the storyline and completely throw the storyline off it's rhythm and make 4x02 feel very disjointed, leaving the audience needlessly wondering what stakes have changed only to realize... Oh. Literally nothing. (I am so glad nothing changed, but it would have been nice if they didn't try to hype it up like Sam had been leaping on his own for who knows how long, only to have Sam and Al start chatting as though they'd never been separated.)
4x01 was also used as a dumb excuse for Sam to suddenly be into sex, and flirting with women, because clearly they were fishing for more male audience engagement by making Sam have enthusiastic sexy times with women of his own free will (instead of the previous 3 seasons that established that he wants nothing to do with sex or anything physical). Also just the complete irony of them retconning in a wife for Sam in the same episode they start making him more....sexually active shall i say.
6) Ziggy is the "God/Him" in question, clearly, and is Orchestrating Events to make a more perfect timeline that is also a self fulfilling prophecy where he is always created by Sam. Not that Sam or anyone else ever realizes this.
7) Al is super fucking queer, and is very involved in the community and equality movement. Running for Honor doesn't follow the same script anymore, it was probably pretty good for 1992 television, but uhhhh no to Al saying "I can't always be the good guy" like, sorry writers but no .
Anyways. Al is Aromantic and genderqueer, and his full name is Ally which he chose himself after running away from the orphanage for the nth time and being taken in by a group of homeless queer folk and learning about everyone's experiences with gender, sex, romance, and everything in between.
8) "Time travel within his lifetime" except every time Sam Leaps into someone their lifetime is factored in to that count. Exponentially increasing Leaping dates. Aka Sam Leaps into Jesse Tyler in the year 1955, which is when Sam is 2 years old (born in 1953)? Well, now Sam can also leap as far back as Jesse Tyler's birthday and birth year. And every single time he Leaps, the Leapee's lifetime is added to his pool of potential leaping years.
.... I'll add more as I think of them :)

Speaking of Torchwood and Quantum Leap:
Crossover Writing Prompt:
Sam Beckett Leaps into a member of Torchwood as his first solo Leap after Mirror Images--
And it's just as well because this time he has not Leaped into the past-- he's in the future. Early 2007 to be exact, so not only is he Leaping alone with no Al and no Ziggy to guide him, not only is he in the future with no idea what is happening or what should be happening, not only that...
But he's not even in America any more. He's in Cardiff, Wales. So far beyond his frame of reference it's not even funny.
And that's not even the worst of it.
Apparently, Aliens are real.
And apparently, he's part of a team that protects the earth from them.
And apparently, this means aliens are going to try to kill him on a regular basis for the entire Leap. Oh and he has the save the world every forty five minutes it seems like.
So now the hardest part comes in: what is he here to change for the better, and how is he supposed to even begin to know what to change without Al or Ziggy to guide him?
Aka, Sam's first post-canon Leap is a crash course on just how wide and bizarre the universe really is, and this is just a small taste of the truly alien world's and perspectives to come.

Okay so ANYWAYS.
Quantum Leap.
My "this was meant to be a funny shit post but now I'm taking it super seriously" prompt has officially been incorporated into my little daydream Quantum Leap AU+Rewrite+Post Canon Universe.
it's sometime after my rewrite of the whole mess that is Last Dance Before An Execution (through) Shock Theater. (LDBAE-ST)
4x01 just straight up goes off the rails because none of that made sense except for the parts I'm keeping for Future Sam to deal with.
Anyways. During the New Events that happen to replace The Leap Back, Sam starts having very strange dreams and hearing [more] voices-- and the calls not coming from inside the house either, he already checked with the others!
Nope. Instead, he suddenly has spirits communicating with him in his dreams, showing up every night throughout the Leap, trying to ask him something but he can never quite make out what they're saying.
His lack of proof (or actual, meaningful communication) leaves Al skeptical of his claims and tells him they just need to get more sleep in this Leap while they can still can.
The Leap continues in whatever plot I decide at the eventual-maybe time of writing, and it's not until the very end of the Leap, when Sam has been knocked unconscious by the antagonist, that he's able to fully understand the spirits who are reaching out to him.
Al in the outside world is frantically trying to wake Sam up so he can go like, rescue a man who's been cartoonishly tied to some train tracks or something, idk.
Anyways, Sam wakes up, saves the guy, fixes what went wrong, and Leaps.
Weeks go by, as they always do before Ziggy can locate Sam's temporal signature again.
But weeks turn into months.
And suddenly, it's New Years Eve at Project Quantum Leap, only no one feels like celebrating, because Sam is still missing in between Leaps. This is the longest he's ever been "in between" and everyone is starting to get worried.
Then, right as the clock strikes midnight, Ziggy sends out an alert--
She's found Dr. Sam Beckett.
Except his brain wave and vital signs are off the charts, and something is messing with her system and "Admiral, we need you in the Imaging Chamber NOW! We don't know what's happening to Sam but you're the only one who can tell us what's wrong!."
Al, of course, is already sprinting down the corridors to the Imaging Chamber, more than halfway there.
Al bursts into the Imaging Chamber and the new Leap materializes around him as the Chamber powers up and sprawled on a carpeted floor of a bedroom is a young woman, blankets tangled around her legs, pajama suit rumpled, and sobbing.
After the traumatic shit show that was LDBAE-ST, Al has had to take multiple sessions with Dr. Verbena Beeks himself to deal with the fallout of what *Sam* has gone through, (not to mention dealing with the shell shock from the war), so Al is fairly confident he'll be able to help guide his friend through whatever kind of panic or anxiety attack they're having and help them calm down , and usually seeing that Al is there at all is some kind of comfort so he circles around and starts reassuring them he's here --
Only to not get the reaction he was expecting.
"Syl? Sylvi? Veon! Syl vee, vee, veon!" The woman on the floor exclaims and tries to hug him, then looks embarrassed when that fails to work "Vee, sylvi, veon, Syl. Vee Sylve, onn vee Sylvi."
Al just stares, because clearly, this is Sam. But for the life of him, Al can't understand a word coming out of their mouth.
Sam tilts their head in confusion at Al's flabbergasted look, "Sylveon?" They finally enquire.
.
.
[aka Sam Leaps into Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team / Rescue Team DX and lives out not only the entire main storyline but also all of the post game content until he finally passed of old age with his Partner at his side and only then did he Leap back into canon
but he spent more than a human lifetime there and doesn't realize he's speaking Pokespeak lolol.
Don't worry! It's fine! He still knows English he just has to jog his memory of how to speak it.
Oh, and how to walk on two legs again lol.
Also becoming a Pokemon is what unlocks his ability to Leap into earth animals later.
Anyways, Sam is an Eevee in Rescue Team Verse and so is his Partner!
Sam eventually evolves into Sylveon (aka the trans pride Eeveelution)
and his Partner, Eevee, because of Sam's presence in that world, evolves into [REDACTED].

So since Quantum Leap established with "The Wrong Stuff" that Sam can Leap into Chimpanzees because Chimps (and Bonobos) share 98.8% of their DNA with humans.
Leap to the next branch on our evolutionary family tree, and Gorillas share 98.4%
Orangutans are 96.8% , and monkeys are 93%
Then....
Theres Mice. Who share 90% of their DNA with humans.
And Dogs. Who share 84% of their DNA with humans.
What's the cutoff point for Leaping? Mice and Dogs are both important lab animals because of their shared DNA with humans; how much difference does DNA make in Leaping when a 2.2% difference is acceptable while being so long a bridge to cross?
Anyways here some writing prompts:
1) Sam Leaps into a chimp again-- only instead of a test subject, he's someone's pet! Crammed into small, unsanitary conditions with no access to proper food, water, or medical care, Sam has to figure out a way to take down the exotic pet trade from the inside... or die trying.
2) Sam Leaps into a dog-- but not just any dog, he's landed in the service dog of a woman with PTSD, and now he has to navigate trying to prevent a murder while protecting Catherine...
And confronting how people treat service animals like pets as he's constantly surrounded by kids and adults trying to pet him while he's trying to keep people away from Catherine, along with store owners who refuse to allow her rightful entry because they've been burned in the past by people bringing in their untrained pets as "ESAs" who then caused huge, preventable incidents,
such as a Chihuahua in a grocery cart leaping out to attack a child that was standing in line behind the owner despite the kids correctly keeping their distance and not trying to bother the dog
(if that sounds oddly specific, it's because this literally almost happened at work a few years back; the owner insisted that his dog viciously snarling and snapping his teeth at young children and snarling at me was just the dog being 'playful')
3) Sam Leaps into an indoor/outdoor cat (90% shared DNA apparently) and has to stop a boy from running away from home.... Which is easier said than done when you're constantly being chucked out of the house to fend for yourself once your humans get bored of petting you, and have to constantly fend off attacks from other cats, free-roaming dogs, cars and.... Kids with bows and arrows!?
4) Sam Leaps into an African Gray parrot whose elderly biologist owner has passed away, and has to find a way to convince her two adult children that they need to abandon their mother's house and get to high ground during a storm, because a flash flood is about to come sweeping in to destroy the house and everyone inside... While stuck in a small, guilded cage with his wings clipped and both siblings being completely dismissive of his welfare, insisting he is "just a dumb bird", having dismantled and sold off the expensive aviary furnishings the original owner had created for the parrot over the course of 60 years.

1/24/2023
Hello everyone, and welcome to a remastered Masterlist of Quantum Leap Novels included on the Web Archive of Archive.org!
This is not a definitive list -- yet-- of every single Quantum Leap Novel on the archive; that post can be found here. from @fandomjoy ! Instead, this will be a WIP Masterpost of the "Remastered" Quantum Leap Novels, as they're uploaded them to the archive with the help of some volunteers !
What does "remastered" mean in this sense? Well, to start, all of the novels originally on the archive were just PDFs. and by PDFs I mean almost raw book scans, sephia background with black text and everything. Great for finding them in the first place, but not very accessible for people who need larger text, more contrast, or need some kind of audio format.
So, the "remastered" Quantum Leap novels that are linked in this post have been painstakingly edited from those original PDFs into actual, readable, editable Word Documents that were then exported into EPUBs (Generic ebook format, widely used), MOBI (old kindle format) AZW3, (new kindle format(?)) and clean PDFs of black text on a blank white background.
So now, you can download the file format of your choice; everything except PDF should have the option on your ereader or ereader app (ReadEra is my top Android recc, and Calibre for PC) to increase the font size, color, font style, and a ton of background and color options for more accessible reading!
and that's not all ! These links will also include homemade audiobooks of the Quantum Leap Novels, created using the program Balabolka :)
Anyways, it's already a long post, onto the links!
(please note, this is a work in progress, check back here often for updates!)
Begin Masterpost:
Book One: Carny Knowledge Here
Book Two: Too Close For Comfort Here
Book Three: The Wall Here
Book Four: Prelude Here (added 4/3/2023)
Book Five: Knights of the Morningstar Here (added 4/13/2023)
Book Six: Search & Rescue Here (added 4/4/2023)
Book Seven: Random Measures Here (added 4/3/2023)
Book Eight: Pulitzer Here (added 4/13/2023)
Book Nine: Double Or Nothing Here (added 4/5/2023)
Book Ten: Odyssey
Book Eleven: Independence Here (link added 2/8/2023)
Book Twelve: Angels Unaware
Book Thirteen: Obsessions
Book Fourteen: Loch Ness Leap
Book Fifteen: Heat Wave Here
Book Sixteen: Foreknowledge here: (link added 4/3/2023)
Book Seventeen: Song and Dance
Book Eighteen: Mirror's Edge Here (link added 4/3/2023)
separate continuities:
The Beginning (Novelization of the Genesis Part 1 Pilot):
The Ghost And The Gumshoe (Novelization of "A Portrait for Troian", released exclusively in the UK) :
End Notes:
As of 1/24/2023, we still need a physical copy of Foreknowledge to even begin the digitalization process! We were very lucky and two of us were able to get Mirror's Edge for under $60, but Foreknowledge is still very expensive out there!
If you have a physical copy of Foreknowledge on hand please consider DMing me or joining the Quantum Leap Lovers Discord to find out how you can help contribute :)
1/24/2023: Book 15: heatwave is currently being re-edited to make a cleaner page scan (no watermarks or fingers visible) and then it will get the Epubs, mobies, clean PDF, audiobooks, etc uploaded once the OCR has been cleaned up. 4/3/2023 done! original pdf has been cleaned up and reuploaded as an edit, and the other files will follow in the next hour or so.
4/3/2023: Someone uploaded an old book scan of Foreknowledge to the web archive ;)

Can you please imagine for me if the 2022 reboot was actually about telling a continued story from the original series instead of capitalizing on cheap nostalgia.
If the writers actually cared about telling a good story and telling it well.
Can you imagine if Sam Leaped into a young Ben Song to save his life from some childhood disaster and Ben carried that memory of the Future and the Waiting Room with him through his entire life, knowing that a complete stranger saved his life, and dedicating his life towards mastering quantum physics and, with an entire message board and forum of similar past Leapees,
an entire team of former Leapees sneakily joins/ infiltrates various government agencies until they've managed to convince the relevant politicians that reopening Project Quantum Leap is super duper profitable, actually , and that they could *totally* send people into Leaps to gather top secret intelligence information from enemies of the state and find out who assassinated xyz and etc,
all while acting like they're complete professional strangers to each other ..... Up until the first unmonitored day at the New Project Quantum Leap 2 , where they all immediately break character to show that they're a bunch of people from all walks of life who have dedicated their lives to finding and bringing home the person who saved them and their loved ones so selflessly with no thought of reward except for the hope that the next Leap will be the Leap home.
And the team here is determined to make that hope a reality, each with their shared history with Sam, either directly being past Leapees themselves or closely connected to someone who was; perhaps a friend, or loved one, who was Leaped into to change history for the better, and team member found out and want to help Sam the way he helped them/their loved ones?
Like, just imagine how many people out there, how many lives Sam has touched. How many people there are in the world that were personally impacted by Sam's actions? Heck, there even be a lot of fun villains thrown into the mix because Sam Leaped into shitty people to save the people around them from the Leapee, like the guy with the gun, or the cheating sleazebag with a million wives and kids-- throw some vengeful Leapees into the interpersonal drama and you've got grade A concepts to work from right then and there, a team with dozens more in the background working to get Sam home and make some kind of contact with him, setting up their own DIY hologram chambers at home with tinfoil rooms and sci-fi projector so they can sit in there with a laptop and look at wiki pages and digital history libraries to get info to Sam to try to help him on the newest Leap, just.
Literally anything that actually has any proper, Heartfelt connection to the original show and it's characters.
A love letter to Quantum Leap and it's meaning, instead of just trying to profit off the IP.
Also it would keep the fun scifi 80s aesthetic because know how to have fun in this house. Not just generic 2022, give me flashing earrings and light up pronoun pins with matching gas pedals for your car.

Heyooooooo Quantum Leap fandom, guess what arrived today! That's right -- MIRROR'S EDGE! So, I decided to make an unboxing video, and just finished adding subtitles to it so it's closed captioned *properly* instead of youtube's autogenerated captions.

[ three images, the first showing an Ebay confirmation order for $78.18 US dollars for a Lot of 5 Quantum Leap novels including Mirror's Edge. The second image is a cropped picture of the Mirror's Edge book cover, and the third image is an animated gif from the movie 'Elf', showing Buddy screaming and flapping his hands in excitement with the store manager giving him a look, now edited so that Buddy is labeled as Me: Screaming about finding Out of Print Quantum Leap Novels from the 90's for under $60 on Ebay* , while the manager beside Buddy has been labeled "my mutuals" with question marks to show their confusion as they turn to look at me. end ID]
GUESS WHO ORDERED MIRROR'S EDGE TODAY!?
And yes, when it arrives it will be promptly digitalized as first a PDF and then turned into an epub so reading it is no longer locked forever more behind a $60+ paywall -- in this case, the lot of 5 books I ordered was 59.99 + 13.00 shipping and then like, 5 dollars of tax.
Which is cheaper than most listings for just Mirror's Edge, which is usually priced from $60 to $70 allllllllllllllllll the way up to $137 and gods forbid, $200+ !!!!!
So yeah I am extremely excited to find this! This also means we'll have an extra copy of Loch Ness Leap, so we might be able to donate a physical copy to the Archive for that one.
Now, just need to find "Foreknowledge" and "Song and Dance" and then................ i think we'd have all of them ??? well. except for "Search and Rescue" which was SUPPOSED to be here on december 20th and got delivered to the wrong location by a different mailman than our usual :'(
[I'm still waiting to receive a response from USPS about the state of my package with Search and Rescue in it lol]
So yeah.
Fellow Quantum Leap fans and mutuals in general lol , if you are at a used book store or flea market or whatever, keep your eyes peeled for Quantum Leap: Foreknowledge and Quantum Leap: Song and Dance, and snatch them up if you can for cheap and message me if you'd like to help contribute to my digitization project for these Out of Print novels!
All you need for step 1 of digitilizing them is a smart phone with a relatively good camera, and maybe an extra set of hands to hold the book open to photograph each page with a PDF app.
