On the Noelle Second Hero theory.

I find it interesting how thematically the three heroes in this scenario all have this kind of... subservience to them as a common thread. A learned resignation, or, if you will... the fact their choices don't matter.

This is most obvious with Kris. They're literally housing the SOUL and being controlled by it, forced to keep it inside to continue the journey and close fountains. But that's not even the most heinous example of lack of control - Kris actually does have some liberty in speaking and acting even under our control, can lock us away us at any time, and is the cage keeping us in. We are being imprisoned.

Because a lot of evidence points towards Kris having been manipulated, by the Knight, Carol, or someone else affiliated with that team, to take the SOUL in for the purposes of some plan. They chose this position but not without outside influence. Even when they're free, they are not. Because they made a promise.

Ralsei is a very obvious example too. Although he wants to believe the prophecy can be changed, he also says it outright that it foretells everything. If he truly believed it could be changed, would he not have tried to prevent Tenna's fate? There's also a very clear lack of self worth on Ralsei's end, seeing himself as an asset, an item to be used and discarded to the point that he didn't even prepare a room for himself. As he admits in chapter 4, he practiced baking and sewing and singing for the purpose of entertaining or aiding Lightners. And it does seem that he is scheming something in those brief flashes we're not looking at him or Kris, though it's yet to show exactly what he's planning. There is chance though that he's in on the whole Knight conspiracy.

And then we have Noelle, whose entire struggle in act 2 is being unable to decline what others demand of her, feeling helpless and generally lacking self-confidence to assert herself.

If this theory is true, then it's concerning how much the Heroes would be susceptible to exploitation.

To being used up, perhaps.

We see it in Snowgrave just how far that can go if the SOUL decides to be manipulative to the point of abuse.

And I do find it significant that Susie is the reason so much has already changed and can change. Obviously Noelle's development isn't just because of her crush on Susie, Kris is also an important part of it, as is Queen and the darkworld itself. But it is certainly a motivator alongside others for her standing up. Kris also feels empowered by their friendship with Susie, and Ralsei too wants to believe her that fate can be changed. Susie can literally inherit Gerson's title of a Weapon of Justice which describes her as facing fate rather than carrying it out.

I am of the belief that Susie is the character whose introduction rewrites the entire story of Deltarune as a tale, which just makes me wonder what the tale would be without her, where perhaps our control (or someone else's) on the Heroes would've been frighteningly strong.

Three kids cast in roles of saviours not by choice. In more ways than one, perhaps.
