QWP FAQ
What are we doing while we’re stuck inside all day?
I’ve designed something called the Quarantine Writing Project (abbreviated QWP and pronounced “ku-op”). It’s an interactive writing project in which students (you) create the content displayed on a class blog.
So we’re starting a blog?
Yes. I’ve created a Tumblr account at quarantinewriting.tumblr.com. I chose Tumblr because it’s super user-friendly, easily accessible through the Tumblr app or website, and simple.
I get to do the writing for the blog?
As long as what you write is as school-appropriate as possible, yes! Each week I’ll provide a list of prompts to choose from and you can write as many posts as you like. You can submit them to me directly on Tumblr or message them to me on Edsby.
What kind of writing will we be doing?
Short answer – A wide variety.
Long answer – Short stories, poems, sentences, words, emojis, journal entries, memes, and much more! The purpose of QWP is to be creative and enjoy writing. While many of us enjoy academic writing like essays and are VERY good at it, our blog will be something unique.
When do I need to submit my work?
By Sunday each week is fine, but if you do your writing early you don’t have to wait. I’d like to update the blog as frequently as possible, so submit it when you’re done (after you give it a quick proofread of course). Also, please include your student number when you make your submissions so I can keep track of who’s writing stuff for our blog.
What’s in it for me? Why should I do this? Why should I care?
It would make me happy if you did it
A great way to show-off creativity
Compete with others to get likes and reposts
Build your knowledge to prepare for high school, college, and maybe even a career that involves creative writing
Practice writing and communication – lifelong skills you’ll need for anything you want to do in the world
Pass the time while we’re avoiding the coronavirus
It’ll be the most fun writing you’ve ever done in your life
And any other reason you can think of to motivate yourself
What if I don’t want anyone to read my writing?
I can post your work anonymously – without telling anyone it’s yours – if you want me to. Just let me know when you submit it.
What if I have more questions that weren’t covered here?
Message me on Edsby if you have any questions!
