Money fucking sucks. It distorts everything: relationships, decisions, timelines, who gets to feel safe and who doesn’t. It turns something like “home” into a math problem. That’s brutal, and unfair, and I hate it so much.

there's been a bunch of buzz about switching/dumping streaming services lately for a lot of reasons, which feels like a good time to mention: this friday (august 1st) is a bandcamp friday!
for the uninitiated, bandcamp friday means the site doesn't take their usual cut, and the artist you're buying from gets it all. it's like an inverse of spotify's business model.
moving away from streaming services costs some convenience, of course, but it's also a lot harder for the whims of a platform or payment processor to zap a folder full of mp3s off of your devices! consider it!

Click thru and watch him. It's less than 3 minutes.
Beloved meteorologist on the air for 34 years stops his show to deliver education about Trump's Musk's cuts to science and the National Weather Service. How, this year, for the first time in his career he cannot forecast hurricanes with any confidence.
He's getting the word out. More of this please.

I think, on the level of just snappy sound-bite slogans, we need to all shift from “gender is a social construct” to “sex is a social construct”
(ideally, we can discuss sexgender as a construct together, but I understand in popular discourses there is a lot of work to be done before the average perisex cis person (or, let’s be real, even the average intersex or trans person) will be comfortable and familiar with the idea that these are not distinct natural phenomenon that can appear “aligned” or “unaligned” with assignment but rather are part of the same social/economic/political hierarchy through which almost if not all global societies are structured)
but the immediate, most normie starting point, (at least within my own social context & I think in many others) is to start directly and constantly challenging the idea people have that “sex” and “gender” are completely distinct and that “sex” is biological/material and “gender” is psychological/immaterial.
In 2025, if you say “gender is a social construct” even violent transphobes will agree with you. They have named their movements and slogans around the ideological separation of sex and gender to maintain the naturalized categorization of sexgender class through “sex” while channeling all criticisms of this system as criticism of “gender” which they then conflate with trans people specifically, and trans women especially.
The separation of these constructs is being used currently to displace and direct all grievance about gender based violence onto transfeminized populations.
I believe that at this moment, it is a strategic rhetorical move to begin to directly target this construct of “sex” which houses this ideological commitment to naturalized class hierarchy. Draw attention to it and challenge it whenever you can.
“Abolish sex assignment.”
“Sex is socially constructed.”
“Sex is constantly redefined for political purpose.”
“ASAB is not a euphemism for sex categories but a critique of them”
Make these insights part of your 101 basic talking points.

it's a tough choice but I do think the funniest claim in this scientology anti-drug pamphlet is "drugs have been a part of our culture for the last few decades"
