Hey guys, im so happy to inform you that shahed has met her first goal of $40,000 USD ❤️
Thank you so much to everyone who shared consistently and donated, and to all the lovely friends who dedicatedly helped me bring attention to her fundraiser and share her story. This was a team effort and it REALLY couldn't have happened without any of you.
When i first started talking to shahed around a month or so ago, her fundraiser had been stagnating at around $8k for a few weeks, and it was with some effort that we had clawed our way to $10k somehow when she had recieved end of july as the deadline for collecting funds for her evacuation.
With the cost of travel being an outrageous 30k USD just for her father and siblings, shahed who had narrowly escaped getting caught up in a massacre nearby her camp at the time and was sickly herself, had to make the painful decision of having to give up her own evacuation so that she could at least make sure her sisters (suffering from severe hepatitis) and her father (in need of a heart operation) could get safe passage out of gaza and seek treatment in egypt.
Raising another 20k within that time frame of 2 weeks was a daunting task as we had still been hovering over 10k for an entire week and longer, so you can imagine what a blow it was for her to find out the amount she needed to raise on that same deadline was actually $40k because of the extra amount (30%) gazan banks demand now as commission 😭
But somehow you all did the impossible. You got shahed to 40k in a matter of days, when we had been struggling to get anywhere for WEEKS before that.
Your steadfast support in response to her urgency has given her and her family hope in a truly hopeless time. She has told me that her little sisters have finally started smiling again after a long time of suffering.
But sadly, it is still undercut by the fact that the end of their torment comes at the cost of being separated from their older sister and the rest of her family. They obviously desperately want shahed by their side when they get to safety, and to know that their sister and the rest of the family is safe too. They deserve that.
Now that we have reached this point however, shahed can finally have the option of considering her own evacuation too, along with the rest of her family.
So i hope you all continue to support her in this next stage as she sets her next goal, so that we can work up to the total amount she needs to evacuate all seventeen of her family members.
I want to remind you that even though the first goal is reached, this is still an urgent matter, as many of the other adult members of the family like shahed herself are also suffering from starvation, violence, and the constant displacement. Just yesterday she told me she had once again only narrowly escaped death while trying to get food and water for her family. Everyday she is delayed, it is costing her and her family more than most of us will ever understand.
So please do not stop supporting Shahed and her family.
She still needs your help
Currently she has raised $40,762 / $50,000 (new short term goal)
Please keep sharing, and donating. Please keep reposting her story wherever you have reach, she still has a long way ahead of her and needs all the help she can get.
watching gen z and millennials make fun of gen alpha has been torturous. "But they're actually stupid" 1. theyre middle schoolers 2. isn't that what older gens said about us? don't you remember being 11?
it truly is just "impulse reaction to cringe <- has not yet unlearned shame"
Wafaa has made the difficult decision two days ago to raise her campaign goal from €50k to €60k, because of a series of aggressive iof bombings in Khan Younis that started in the early morning, extremely close to where Wafaa's children and grandchildren were (details linked in the post). They desperately need money for food and supplies for relocation to a safer place to live.
Wafaa has been largely bed-bound for the past two days because of paralyzing fear for her family's safety but also because of her own debilitating illness. As many people know, Wafaa evacuated for her own health in November of last year to get treatment. And yet Wafaa is now skipping medication and doctor's appointments for months just so she could send all the money she earns back to her family. It is up to us to help them raise whatever we could to lessen Wafaa's burden.
Here is a message Wafaa has sent to me to relay to all of you:
"Evacuating by myself was the hardest thing I had done. After going to Egypt, I suffered a lot in loneliness during my illness. Feeling pain and not being able to talk to anyone about your pain, so you feel lonely and alienated when you suffer and do not have money for treatment. It's hard to pay money on a house that I could live in. You always feel the desire to embrace your family and smell their scent, and the most difficult thing is to hear on the news about bombings near them. When you struggle to reach them but are unable to reach them due to the lack of means of communication. You stay up all night exhausted and tired, crying alone and in pain alone. I don't like to explain this pain to anyone. But this is my reality for months now.
I'm really very tired and I'm trying to get back to my strength, because I want to be strong to make a post about my children's campaign, but also my brother and sister's campaign." (more about Wafaa's brother Muhammad and sister Shaima here! campaign to be released after this current one reaches its goal)
Please continue to support Wafaa's campaign by any means you have. Wafaa's campaign has been seriously stagnating, at certain points yesterday the campaign would be stagnant for more than an hour at a time. Please donate to the best of your ability.
Only €50 raised in the past hour, please don't let this campaign stagnate any further! Currently €54,200 raised of €60,000 goal as of July 25 morning, that's €5,800 left to raise!!
Once you've donated, there are two currently open raffles for Wafaa that you can participate in:
Opportunity to win a beautiful journal hosted by @turian (more details for receipt submission at @journalsforpalestine), for a donation more than €5, enter before July 31!
Opportunity to win a cozy crocheted sweater handmade by @terroristiraqi for a donation more than €5, enter before August 4!
Try for once to see the truth with your eyes and your heart In this video, there is a very simple summary of the extent of the great suffering we are experiencing.
Because we want to hold on to our land and build our homelands that were destroyed by the occupation, I ask you to help me rebuild my house, which was bombed by Israeli occupation planes and tanks.
I have reached 11,200 Canadian dollars and I am on my way to the second goal, which is 20,000 Canadian dollars. I hope you support and participate.
