So Darius DID see the previous GG’s face, but given his close relationship that doesn’t necessarily mean it was public knowledge. Plus there were differences to throw things in doubt, makes me wonder if Darius or anyone else suspect Hunter was the son of the previous GG and got there through nepotism (as would the previous GG, since Belos is Hunter’s uncle). This also gives us some cues on what Darius’ mentor looked like…

Luz initially being more skeptical of the isles makes sense in some ways, but it also makes more sense in others for her to embrace it, especially since it shows what a weirdo at heart she really is. Interesting that it was also in response to Belos’ development, as Luz is meant to be a foil to him and not just a parallel! He’s the system and prejudices that Luz was fleeing and ultimately confronted and refused to let define her. Makes me wonder if Belos wasn’t always a witch hunter in development, but when that happened Luz was changed to incorporate more of a Man VS Society conflict to her arc. I wonder when all this happened in relation to the pitch bible and pilot?

I was thinking about making her raine’s evil mom or sister for a WIP I may never finish that cannot have another plotpoint shoehorned in but this as an alternative route for Raine is terrifying.

If Caduceia’s design was repurposed for Raine then it’s surreal because I feel like I’m looking into an alternate version of Raine; Like what if they never stood up for themselves, what if they never transitioned and did exactly as their parents expected, becoming a healer instead of a bard.

Caduceia is the dark reflection of Raine, who they could’ve been, the exact opposite; A cis professor who wants to sell out their students to gain the emperor’s favor. I feel like I’ve glimpsed a timeline that led to one of those fandom polls; “Would transition have saved her?” And all of the votes are some variation of yes. And our universe is what would’ve happened with transition. I wanna HC this into Raine’s backstory now.

so the other day a castmate of mine was talking about having once been a little girl (at this point, i all but short-circuited because said castmate is a man in his mid-sixties and my brain had its little moment of “!!!!! trans person!!! and he’s OLD!!!!”) and being asked if there was a famous person he looked up to or wanted to look or be more like. and he said— again, as a little girl at this point— “santa claus!” and everyone thought he was weird for it.

and this story doesn’t read as well over text because you really have to see the guy. but he looks just like santa claus. he’s got the long white hair and the beard and the belly and everything. and i just. the amount of secondhand trans joy i experienced is truly insane. i’m gonna get old! i’m gonna get old the way i wanna get old! hey everybody you’re gonna get old; we’ve been doing it for years!

PNW berries are wonderful. My girlfriend and I have lived here our whole lives but her time in scouts makes her so careful outside and she refuses to eat any berries. Meanwhile when I’m on a hike with her she thinks I’m crazy for snacking on salmonberries, huckleberries, and blackberries.

I can’t remember a time in my life where the summers weren’t full of berries to eat. Every trail has at least a few bushes offering their wares to people walking by.

Many of them aren’t monetized, they don’t keep well, not appealing enough for the bother of cultivating them. Salmon berries, huckleberries, thimble berries. We have black and blue berries, too. But you don’t see most of our local berries in the grocery store.

One of my most precious memories with my beloved was our earliest hike together. They didn’t grow up native to the area and exclaimed in alarm when they saw me reach casually toward a bush to pick a berry as we walked by.

“You can’t just eat berries! What if it’s poisonous?!”

“It’s not,” I said, puzzled. “I guess there’s some poisonous berries around here but I don’t eat those ones, it’s really easy to tell.”

“Those are safe to eat?”

I laughed and popped it into my mouth only to immediately realize it was horribly unripe. Salmon berries come in two colors you see, orange and red.

I’d mistaken an unripe red berry for a ripe orange one. It had felt soft enough to be ripe but it was so bitter it hurt. So an instant after asserting it was safe to eat I opened my mouth with a “bleh” to let it fall back out.

“They- they’re not poisonous it just wasn’t ripe,” I insisted.

My beloved looked skeptical but scanned the bush and plucked another berry to me. “Try this one.”

The sun shone beautifully through the dappled tree canopy, illuminating the gleaming berry in their hand, a perfect snapshot of a romantic summer moment. I took the berry, my fingers brushing their palm to bring the little fruit up to my lips while looking into their smiling eyes.

I had to spit it out.

It was as overwhelmingly bitter as the last one, but I didn’t mind the way my beloved laughed at me.

over on my post about Taylor Swift's enduring heterosexuality there's been a recent rash of people in the tags saying something to the effect of "obviously Taylor Swift is straight, no queer woman would date Matty Healy." which is frustrating, because white bisexual women date little shithead racist men all the time. having a racist boyfriend doesn't mean someone isn't really bisexual, it means that being queer doesn't prevent you from being racist. the thing that makes Taylor Swift straight is that she's straight, not that she's dated objectionable men.
