Shine The Series - or how three years of waiting was worth it.
Like all KinnPorsche lovers, I waited three years for Mile and Apo to do their on screen post doc chemistry thing again (ManSuang does not count, even if it's a rad film). And boy did they deliver. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, they are very, very good actors. Perhaps the very best in the thai BL scene. It helps that despite the controversies, Be on Cloud does amazing production. Beware for spoilers below.
I have no shame in admitting that KinnPorsche elevated my standards for BL and made a lot of BL's unwatchable for me, and I think, for many viewers too. It was just that good, so if you stumble on this series through its non KinnPorsche tag, then you should definitely check it out if you're in the mood for mafia, ultraviolent boys kissing boys thing. Still, this show promises to be more than just a queer love story. Which is queer (heh) of the BL genre in Thailand. Though it only has a single episode, scenes of triumphs on the Apollo 11 mission amidst a backdrop of a more grounded civil protest is interspersed all throughout. The theme is apparent: why the f*ck did we land on the moon before we solved capitalism? The last time a thai BL went this deep, it was Not Me during 2021 with OffGun. Needless to say, I have high expectations.
With Apo portraying a foreign educated economist grappling with his sense of justice versus what justice means for the poor, while Mile is portraying a petite bourgeois musician nepobaby trying to escape from the people around him. It's a really, really good promise of a plot. Here's to hoping it delivers. And based on the cast, they probably really will.
