I realize what my blog is but I left the church like 5 years ago and I did it on my own and I hated that. I had to use a wiki how article to figure out how to leave.
My mental health and happiness is more important than any religion, and that applies to everyone.
I respect people who decide to stay in the church, and I'm not trying to say that everyone should leave. If it works for you and you are happy, great. But not everyone is and the knowledge of how to leave is not easy to find. Everyone should have the option to stay or leave and know how.
I don't want to be stuck with a decision I made when I was 7 and lacked any actual knowledge or faith. I only did it because I saw my brother get baptized and I wanted to do whatever my older brothers did. I got baptized on my 8th birthday, so I literally made the decision when I was 7. No one should be stuck with a decision they made as a child.

Legitimate *pro bono legal services* don’t exist without a good reason. In a few of the exmormon groups I’m in you’ll see regular posts saying stuff like “Look what my lawyer sent me today!” with a pic of their resignation confirmation letter from the church.
You know. Just stuff that a normal average church that is definitely not actually a cult would do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🙄

I think it’s funny how Mormon God was like “look polygamy is super important and I am telling you my followers to practice it even in the face of persecution” and then 40 years later Congress said Utah wouldn’t be given statehood as long as the LDS practiced polygamy and Mormon God was like “Ok tell everyone I changed my mind”

Religion made my family be homophobic and transphobic.
God made my parents to be loving and accepting, just like Him.

I mean the whole damn point of the Nativity story is that the supposed son of God (interpret Jesus how you fucking want, of course) was born to a couple of poor, exhausted peasants in the stable for the inn, and his first bed was a feeding trough for animals. That would nowadays be like a poor couple where the mother gives birth in a parking garage behind the motel because they couldn’t find a better place and nobody else would take them in. It’s a pretty gritty setting, and the idea is that God was reborn in some of the rock-bottom lowest circumstances. The only thing majestic was all the angels and shit, and of course motherly love
I get that a lot of the art portraying Madonna and Child as fabulously wealthy europeans in splendid robes and golden light was meant to glorify God + whichever nobility was sponsoring the artist, and while of course it’s genuinely beautiful art, it just always struck me as horribly missing the point, which is that the supposed son of God started in incredibly humble circumstances, among the kind of people that everyone else looks down on

“Four real-time trends that greatly concern me as I work in the LGBTQIA+/Latter-day Saint intersection. 1. Dragging flesh and blood queer bodies into the ether of sincerely held religious belief and dogma. 2. The appropriation of queer stories to advance straight/cis-gender supremacy. 3. The infantilization of queer folk in church and church education spaces. 4. Prejudice, harassment, and discrimination against queer people has been so tightly bound to the mark of a true believer, that both queer and straight members who question the queer status quo end up with the church questioning their membership in an “all or nothing” manner. Four real-time trends that bring me great joy as I work in the LGBTQIA+/Latter-day Saint intersection. 1. The camaraderie and fellowship of the queer Latter-day Saint/former Latter-day Saint/Latter-day Saint adjacent world-wide network. 2. The compassion of queer mentors towards their queer peers who are hurting, in trauma, or experiencing rejection. 3. The wisdom of not allowing straight cis-gender supremacy to come into our house and divide us along religious belief lines. 4. Latter-day Saint parents who refuse to leave their queer kids behind.”

To LGBTQ+ Mormons and others
Remember,
Christ loves you regardless of your sexuality.
Heavenly Father loves you regardless of your sexuality.
You still have the gift of the Holy Ghost as long as you are keeping the commandments, and keeping your covenants. And the Holy Ghost loves you too.
God knew about your sexuality before you did. He was the first to accept you. He created you and your body. He knew what he was doing.
Please remember this whenever you are feeling down.
Please reblog to let others know.
I love you guys.
