hey i’ve been seeing this implied a lot in trans support posts so i wanna make it clear: binding and tucking are not equivalent

i know that to an outsider eye they may seem similar—they’re both trans things where you wear a special garment that squishes you into a shape you want to be.

but binding consists of compressing the breast tissue against the chest to flatten ones silhouette. it is not without its risks, ofc, but when done properly is not innately permanently damaging. tucking, by comparison, usually consists of pushing the testicles up into the body via inguinal canals and then holding them in place. it can be incredibly painful, and even if done correctly can cause an inguinal hernia (an injury in which the intestines actually protrude down into the scrotum, which, left untreated, can be fatal) and other injuries.

conflating the two hurts transmascs and transfems alike, especially younger trans people. it hurts transfems by normalising tucking and minimising it’s dangers. i’ve seen “tucking resources” and how-tos on lists of tips for transfem children. arguably nobody should be encouraged to tuck, but to encourage children to do something so painful and potentially life threatening so that they “pass” better is just unacceptable. and it hurts transmascs by making binding sound scarier! binding is not particularly dangerous or painful if done right, and the idea that it carries similar risks to tucking is an old terf myth to scare transmascs out of transtitioning

the fact that transfems are EVER expected to go through such pain and even risk our lives just to hide the natural shape of our bodies is despicable, but if you absolutely must encourage tucking in your resource posts please PLEASE make it clear that it carries serious risks and trade-offs that binding simply does not

Would require sex workers to practically dox themselves in order to upload to sites like onlyfans

There's no recourse for sex workers to report their stolen/nonconsensual content, as you either consented to every piece of content featuring you, or you're a victim, meaning that a sex worker reporting say revenge porn of themselves would get ALL of their work pulled.

The ID requirements also apply to art, meaning old art depicting nudity or that is otherwise deemed as pornographic (which would disproportionately target queer art) would be wiped off the net unless you can provide the models ID, even if said piece was created decades ago and the model is long dead (which again, would disproportionately old queer media)

Would in general get rid of all user-generated adult content, giving more power to big porn sites and putting sex workers in an even more vulnerable position

Would be based on the states' age of consent laws, meaning said porn sites could hire 16 year old performers in most states (yikes) and lawyers that went through the bill agreed that in some cases it could be superseded by underage marriage laws, as in, a married minor (because those laws still exist in some states) could """consent""" to appear in adult content if this bill, that claims to protect minors and victims of sex trafficking, passes.

I don't give a shit if you think people with an OnlyFans should be hanged, this shit WILL harm adult consensual sex workers while in some cases enabling actual abusers and pedos

Tiny steps to fight capitalism in your day-to-day life

1. remove or cover all visible brands on your belongings. unless you’re actively rooting for a brand there’s no reason to do free advertisement for them. avoid clothes with highly visible trademarks (e.g. the adidas stripes) 2. unfollow every corporate newsletter (scroll to the end of the mail, there should be a link). you might miss out on special deals, but you will be less primed for purchase and your inbox will be less clogged. Bonus: less e-mail traffic = good for the environment 3. install adblockers on all your mobile devices. mute tv advertisement or switch the channel when there’s the ad break. put a “no ad” sticker on your mailbox. Our daily world is polluted with appeals to buy things and define yourself through those things you buy - in this context, avoiding advertisement by all means necessary is basic self-care. 4. similarly, block every corporate account you encounter on social media. yes they’re sometimes funny. yes they’re still trying to sell you stuff and ingrain themselves into your brain. don’t offer them reach and an audience 5. switch to e-mail accounts, browsers and search engines that don’t collect and sell your data, but focus on privacy and data security instead. 6. if you’re very resolute and have a few like-minded friends, put on some high-vis vest and go bust outdoor ads in your neighborhood (e.g. replace the busstop ads with artworks) 7. if you have the time/resources, hunt Bezos for sport (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

if you want to bring up how horrible gulags were (and yeah they were horrible) but dont care about people unjustly imprisoned in american prisons RIGHT NOW, being forced to work for almost no pay serving ridiculously long sentences then you dont actually give a shit about prisoners. if you use famines in the ussr or maoist china as reasons why communism fails but you dont want to say homelessness, deaths caused by austerity, deaths caused by preventable disease bc people couldnt afford healthcare in america, or the poverty in 3rd world countries caused by capitalist exploitation are all bc of capitalism then you dont actually care about poverty. all you care about is reiterating the points youve heard about communism while refusing to look in a mirror. i can recognize that stalinism is wrong and that the ussr was a distortion of what socialism actually is. and there are plenty of other leftists who recognize that too and are striving for actual liberation from exploitation, poverty and misery. are you as well?

1. “How is it racist?”

It’s racist due to white supremacist policies. POC make significantly less than white people. It’s a big wage gap. Redlining. Gentrification. The New Jim Crow. Systemic and institutional racism. Discrimination in hiring and promoting, housing, loans, and so forth. Whites in general owe a lot to generational wealth, something POC were long excluded from. POC often don’t get the same recognition or compensation for their work. School to prison pipeline, racist policing, unfair sentencing, the much higher percentage of Black, Indigenous, and other POC in prisons compared to their resourcing respective general population percents is a huge problem. It makes it much harder for POC to “move up the ladder,” more likely to live in poverty, and have a harder time escaping poverty. 2. Why liberalism? Because liberalism has become neoliberalism, moved farther right, become less interested in effective measures and actual justice. 3. But communism kills people and anarchism doesn’t work! Okay, I’m not going to debate this point, only say that there is enough food, housing, and other basic needs to take care of everyone. To be continued…
