i just feel like critical genealogical information should not be stored in this thing

was joking with mom about the family bible she brought home from grandma's (because only protestants would end up with a family bible from montgomery ward that features 3D holographic jesus on the cover) only to open it up to the family tree section and answer a question that nobody at the memorial service was able to answer, which is How Is This Woman Identified Only As Great-Great Grandma [Name] (Several Question Marks) On The Back Of This Extremely Old Photo Related To Any Of Us

was behind a truck today with a bumper sticker that said "JESUS CAN HELP YOU" and in my head i was like 🙄 ok but then i saw a second, handmade sign on the side of the truck that said "taskrabbit: call jesus torres" and his phone number

obviously its scary as hell being a trans person in the united states rn but it drives me completely insane watching both (white) allies and other (white) trans people pull the First They Came For Us shtick. like. i think they may have come for some other people first actually. its possible there's another vulnerable and exploited minority that's been subject to dramatically more severe state violence for much longer that are currently and factually being rounded up in camps about it.
and that's not to say that it's at all unreasonable to be afraid for our safety and wellbeing even as white trans people rn esp as the walls close in and the sociopolitical superstructure integrates more and more anti-trans rhetoric into itself But it truly burns me the fuck up watching, for example, notable (white) public figures attempt to defend us on a national stage by invoking the idea that up until now our beautiful democracy hasn't been directly assaulting and displacing any group, that If We Cross This Line, Who Knows What Could Be Next. like buddy we crossed that line a very long time ago and anyone subject to being on the other side of it could have told you what was going to happen next. unfortunately none of those people up until now have had enough whiteness in their ranks to be considered The First They Came For.

this is an absolutely wretched moment for a multitude of reasons, but "i'm just a little guy" jokes aside one that i feel gets overlooked is that carson is describing here exactly what he (and the government) did to VAL first. making an individual representative of something in order to perpetuate and obfuscate the embedded institutional, systematic violence that birthed them by using them as a conduit. there's [desperately trying to avoid looking it in the face], and then there's looking it in the face and refusing to admit that the blood staining it is also on your hands. and it's all framed through the lens of an inevitable confrontation between a bitter daughter and her resentful mother (figure). i could throw up i really could.
