The Secret of the Forest XXV - Thranduil x Reader

Chapter XXV - Back Again of my Thranduil x Reader fanfic TSotF ist ready and up.

Summary: When you arrive at the palace, more than one surprise await you in Mirkwood’s halls. You are grateful for being able to leave behind the wintry chill and are eager to find out what Thranduil might have to tell you about his quest. And then there is still one question that remains unanswered, but you are determined to find out…

Back Again

As much as you tried to stay awake through the rest of your journey you only held out for a few hours. Your endurance, if you ever had possessed any, was nearly non existent after all you had been through in these past days. Sleepiness and exhaustion eventually got the better of you and about halfway through you must have dozed off again. Only vaguely you noticed when Thranduil carefully moved you into a more comfortable position and at some point your hands gave up their grip on the saddle altogether and you slumped backwards against his chest. The wintry cold crept into your bones despite the thick cloak and the Elvenking’s firm embrace. After what resembled half an eternity the steady pace of Silvermane finally slowed down and Thranduil’s voice rose you from your drowsiness. “It will not be long now. We are almost there.” Shifting in your seat you willed your eyes open, the greyish gloom of dusk making it hard to discern anything through the impenetrable wall of trees that lined your path on either side. “Good,” you mumbled, “I almost cannot feel my limbs anymore.” “You will be able to stretch them out again soon, I promise,” he said, accommodating his arm around you to keep you in a steady position during those last moments of your journey.

You squinted into the darkening pathway ahead and far off in the distance where the trees seemed to shy away from each other they now opened up the view for the familiar outline of the palace gates and not long after, the bridge spanning the forest river came into sight. Despite your earlier reservations against returning to the palace, you could not have been happier at the prospect of finally being able to exchange the confines of a horse-back for the comfort of a warm bed. Thranduil brought Silvermane into a slow trot and the layers of snow that had accumulated on the bridge muffled her steps as you approached the gates of the palace. “Welcome back,” Thranduil whispered and Silvermane neighed contentedly, as if in happy anticipation of well-earned food and rest.

THRANDUIL AND WHITE DEER

Bilbo and others dwarves are safe across the enchanted river with boat, but when Bomfur is getting ready to scramble out of the boat suddenly a deer spring over them and make Bomfur fall in and drown into the river. They help Bomfur and lying him of the bank. From afar they hear blowing of horns in the wood and the sound as of dogs baying. Short while later, appear some white deer before them again, a hind and fawns as snowy white. The deer is a symbol of many things, a symbol of spiritual authority, a messenger, an animal power, sensitivity, intuition and genteleness, also related to the sacred and to forests, independence, purification and pride.   The white colour meaning coolness and simplicity, innocence, light, goodness, heaven, safety, brilliance, sincerity, and perfection. Seems like the white deer as representations of the king of Mirwood forest. Bilbo and Thorin’s company see white deer when they almost exit Mirkwood forest in the northheast, a region save from Necromancer influences in the southeast.  So it’s not come from dangerous area.  It comes from the king of Mirkwood forest. The white deer brings message to dwarves as mortals are entering the lands of immortals the region of woodland elves where different rules or laws apply. That is, the Elves rule in this part of their forest and their laws must be honored. No matters what happens, thirsty, hungry and frustate, they should not trespassing the mirkwood forest. If they have been in Mirkwood forest the should go to otherside.  As Tolkien then writes: “If they had known more about it and considered the meaning of the hunt and the white deer that had appeared on their path, they would have know they were drawing towards the eastern edge” 

THRANDUIL AND SEAGULLS 

Legolas gets message from Galadriel :….. “Legolas Greenleaf long under tree. In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea! If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more”

It seems to be Legolas’s fate, when he hear seagulls, the sea-longing will make him leave Mirkwood forest forever. And how if Thranduil has known about that. He has known that oneday Legolas will leave him alone and sail to Valinor. And i imagine what Thranduil worries everytime he sees seagulls. His heart beats fast and asking himself…is this time to Legolas to valinor? Or he will try to speak to seagull to never appear before Legolas.

STUCK ON THE TREE

*The Elvenking and the Prince of the Woodland Realm were taking a walk in the forest together. The King was as usual, giving various advices to the young Prince along the way. It was only after a while that King Thranduil noticed that his beloved son was not by his side. The Elvenking gave a long sigh and retraced his steps. Before long, the King found the mischievous Prince hanging from a tree. The Prince it appeared, was stuck on the tree and could not get down on his own. Legolas asked his Ada for help with an embarrassed smile and panicked a little when he saw that the King had half a mind to leave him hanging there as a punishment.

GOTCHA

*King Thranduil was certainly not amused when he was bombarded by Feren's complaints the moment he reached his chamber. It seemed that Prince Legolas was up to his usual mischief while the Elvenking was away from his realm. Feren also complained that the Prince has been coming back really late at night and how it was dangerous for both the Prince and the other elves.

The Elvenking knew that it would be useless to confront the Prince without any proof and he certainly did not want the Prince to think badly of Feren. As such, the King waited in the dark corner of the Prince's room in silence. He was just beginning to enjoy his sixth glass of fruit wine when the Prince walked in. The Prince was surprised when his Ada emerged from the dark. The young Prince knew he was in trouble and that there was no escape.

Prince Legolas tried to defend himself but the Elvenking was in no mood to put up with his misbehaviour. King Thranduil dismissed the Prince and told the Prince to clean himself up and go to bed. He would deal with the Prince in the morning. Perhaps he should make the Prince go for the morning meetings with his ministers for a month? King Thranduil smiled to himself as he knew how much his beloved little leaf hated those meetings.

FUNNY NEWS

*An elegant little bird suddenly zoomed past his head. The Elvenking looked up and saw that it was one of his messenger birds. The little bird started twittering and the Elvenking smiled. The King cast some spells on the Prince's chamber before he left this morning. He knew that Prince Legolas would be up to no good again and the spells were to prevent the Prince from going out from his chamber. All the Prince's daily needs would be fulfilled by Feren and the other guards on duty. King Thranduil smiled again and shook his head as he thought about how mad the Prince would be at the moment and how much the Prince would complain once he is home later that night.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

*One of his guards approached him and reported that everything was ready and in order. The Elvenking nodded in satisfaction and dismissed the guard. King Thranduil knew that his beloved son was mad at him for casting a spell on his chamber the other day. The King wanted to make it up to the Prince and decided to have a little surprise for him. The Elvenking remembered how Legolas once wanted to celebrate Halloween just like the Men, but they never got around to it.

King Thranduil had asked his guards to decorate a section of the forest with pumpkins and lights. They were also told to get a some Halloween treats for the Prince. That night, the sulking Prince was really surprised when he happened to walk into that section of the forest for his usual inspection. The Prince and the other elves had a great time feasting on the Halloween treats. The Elvenking was equally glad that his beloved Prince was enjoying himself and seemed to have forgotten about the spells he had cast on his chamber.

Summary: Faced with unresolved issues from their past Thranduil and Legolas must finally find a way to overcome their difficulties or remain forever estranged. But breaking the chains around his heart is not an easy task for the Elvenking. And when more unforeseen obstacles present themselves in his path back to Mirkwood he is forced once more to decide in between duty and desire.

Helping Hands

„I have been searching for you!“ „So have I,“ Legolas mumbled into his father’s shoulder as he allowed himself to sink back into the blissfulness of his childhood, even if it was to last only a moment in time. The warmth of his father’s embrace took him back to those happier days that were now all but a long lost memory.

How much he had enjoyed the tenderness he used the receive from his parents, the strolls in the forest with his father and the cuddles with his mother in their cosy hideaway. His father would entertain him with endless stories of his youth in Doriath and Legolas would sit and listen quietly in awe, soaking up all the wonders of a city that was beautiful beyond his own imagination and places turned to legend through the ages. In the mild evenings of spring they used to sit by the fireside, the three of them, in a clearing so full of daisies that the grass seemed dotted with freshly fallen snow. He loved staring into the flickering flames as they danced before his eyes like tiny speckles of pure light and when his drowsiness finally turned to sleepiness he curled up in his mother’s lap, the melodious voices of his parents carrying him to sweet slumber as they sang of starlight and the secret of the forest. And the buzzing of fireflies in the warm nights of summer with the balmy scent of wild flowers filled his childish heart with innocent joy. He inhaled the crisp air of late autumn, when the skies were a clear blue in scattered patches high above the spindly canopy of trees, oblivious to how fragile his happiness might actually be.
